5 Ibrahim Ali Zainal B.S., Electrical Engineering, with a minor in Business Administration I came to the University of New Haven when I was 17. Like any international student, I was eager to embrace a new life experience in the United States. Beginning with the warm welcome I received the first day on campus, UNH became my home away from home. The faculty, staff, and classmates were like my family. I was a Straight A student and was elected president of the International Student Association. Now I work at Chevron Enterprise as a global supply chain advisor. I am forever thankful for how UNH challenged my brain, expanded my horizons, and taught me about the value of diversity. Anna Vashurina M.S., Sport Management UNH gave me a totally different perspective on Sport Management. I learned the American way and had a unique chance to compare it to the Russian market. Gil Fried, Professor and Chair of Sport Management, and Allen Sack, Professor of Sport Management, were great mentors and advisors. I truly appreciate their advice and expertise, and I am grateful for everything they taught me. I always think of my time at UNH with warmth and love, and try to visit when I m in the States. UNH is an ideal place for people aspiring to work in sport management and marketing. It has everything at once great professors and a perfect location between New York City and Boston. And it s just an hour away from some of the world s leading sports franchises. Erman Kirtan Industrial Engineering and M.B.A. (dual degree) As a part of my master s degree in industrial engineering at UNH, I was offered an internship from a company in Connecticut involving a project for Yale University. After I graduated from UNH, I was offered a full-time position in that company. This is how my career in industrial engineering started. Currently I work with the Suffolk Construction Co. in the U.S.A. My position is project manager/estimator. UNH played a huge role in my life, not only as a welcoming community, but also to prepare me for a career in my field of choice. Ruxin Jiang M.B.A. I chose finance as my concentration in the M.B.A. program. I joined the CFA study group to work with my peers and prepare for the CFA Level 1 exam, which I passed last month! UNH gave me skills to succeed in my chosen field. The teaching methods here are far different from what I was used to, but my professors and tutors gave me the space I needed to adjust. Now, I really enjoy studying in UNH great professors, beautiful campus, and state-of-the-art finance lab. Karla Ricarda Schiller M.A., Industrial/Organizational Psychology UNH is famous for its M.A. in industrial/organizational psychology and I always dreamed of studying psychology abroad. Fortunately, the program at UNH did not require a bachelor s degree in psychology and I was accepted. Being close to the beach was something that I liked about UNH and the campus is not too big (compared to German universities). What I really liked about studying at UNH was the teamwork required for most courses. Graduating from this program equipped me with the necessary knowledge and tools required in the workplace. I grew as a person and will never forget what a great time I had at UNH. Shanae Armstrong M.S., Forensic Science with a concentration in Criminalistics I never thought I would have the opportunity to study outside my home country of Jamaica. The University of New Haven gave me so many opportunities to develop new skills and to obtain hands-on experience in a forensic laboratory while pursuing my master s degree in Forensic Science with a concentration in Criminalistics. This program prepared me for the forensics field, through crime scenes, laboratory, and theoretical classes. Students are exposed to techniques for evaluating a crime scene in addition to techniques and instruments used to analyze biological, chemical, and other types of evidence. For my thesis, I tested human tissues in different types of water to assess how the DNA profile changes. The forensics program was both rewarding and challenging. Andrew Rice M.S., Cellular and Molecular Biology The University of New Haven not only provides a spectrum of interesting and exciting programs but also offers domestic students unique opportunities to work alongside a diverse community of international students. International students have offered me the ability to explore cultures I never would have been exposed to before. In addition, their years of experience in a different academic setting challenges me to see my own education in a new light and to approach my academic work from a different and dynamic point of view. International students have given me the opportunity to make new friends as well. As I advance in my career, I am hopeful that these friendships will continue to grow because it is apparent, from our many interactions, that we share similar goals for the future.
