7 The program that makes a difference Flexible, integrated, personalized, diversified ESSEC MBA is an innovative program designed to bring students up to speed with the challenges of the ever-dynamic business world. We strongly believe that when equipped with the best tools, individuals will make the best choices for themselves. A flexible, customized curriculum lets MBA students combine work and study as they wish. Students choose from around 200 courses each year, and may specialize in a particular field or discipline of their choice. To achieve a seamless integration between classroom and workplace, all students must have completed nearly two years of validated professional experience by the time they graduate. A mentoring program means that all students are guided from the beginning of the program until graduation. Skills are continuously assessed on an ongoing basis, with faculty, staff and alumni serving as mentors, and bringing with them a wide range of experience and expertise. ESSEC MBA recognizes the importance of cultural diversity, and welcomes students with a wide range of profiles in terms of nationality, background, qualifications and experience, including those just out of college. At ESSEC we never stop innovating: we encourage our students to do likewise, and to feel responsible for the communities which they will be managing and leading in the future. What distinguishes ESSEC from its competitors and what convinced me to come here is the flexibility of the academic program and the internship set-up, the numerous specializations and tracks available to students, and the strength of the careers service. ESSEC has a very strong brand value with employers of all sectors so upon graduation, I received many attractive job offers. In addition, ESSEC taught me valuable lessons that will help me throughout my life. Our MBA students are generally aged 24 and have 1 to 5 years of work experience.

8 Choose your own way to build your professional future ESSEC has built its reputation through its exceptionally close links with the business community, a factor that enriches the overall academic experience. Companies participate actively in the MBA through academic courses, student recruitment and sponsorship of faculty chairs, designed to engage in teaching and research in specific sectors. In addition to company involvement in the curriculum, ESSEC helps students create their own companies through ESSEC Ventures which runs the largest student incubator in France. Diversity & Performance Faculty Chair Faculty Chairs bring ESSEC into close collaboration with companies keen to develop innovative skills within their sectors. The Chair's key activity areas include the development and production of academic research, production of case study projects and coursework open to students. "The creation of the Diversity and Performance Chair with Air France, Deloitte and L'Oréal is the result of a shared conviction that diversity-related issues have become a crucial factor in the strategic vision of the firm. While the topic of diversity has received much attention as a social and political issue, an understanding of diversity as a key element for firm survival and growth makes it necessary for managers to also deal with it head-on. As such, we need to contemplate and negotiate the discourse of diversity and explore its meanings within organizational and managerial contexts. We also need to investigate factors impacting diversity in the workplace, and the consequences of diversity on firm performance and growth. The partnerships generated by the chair are an opportunity to address these needs." Stefan Gröschl, Simon Nyeck, Junko Takagi Heads of the ESSEC Chair of Diversity and Performance ESSEC Ventures, Developing entrepreneurial spirit ESSEC offers unique backing to students who start up their own companies: it is the only management school to offer a comprehensive range of courses to all its students, plus a 500-square-meter incubator - the largest student incubator in France-, and it has the capacity to fund the best projects through its own private equity fund dedicated to students - a worldwide exception in business schools. More than 35 student projects were incubated in 2008, in fields as varied as Internet, media, sustainable development, mobile phone services, cultural services, and the sports industry. 100 start-ups have been created since 2001, and almost all of them are still in business today. Julien MOREL, Executive Director, ESSEC Ventures After studying in Morocco, I was lucky enough to be offered a place in the ESSEC MBA, the only management school which would really give me the chance to develop my entrepreneurial aspirations. My project matured thanks to the courses I followed, and in particular through ESSEC Ventures, the entrepreneurship seed captital fund incubator. I joined ESSEC Ventures, alongside other start-ups, and this allowed me to move my project through to the operational phase, after some intensive mentoring from the Incubator Director and from a company director. Younes LOUBARIS, founder of SysPreaD

9 ESSEC encourages students to develop and challenge their professional skills by working during the MBA. Students have the opportunity to integrate several different types of professional experiences in their curriculum, including high-level internships, the Apprentissage Track and entrepreneurial projects. This constant movement from theory (classroom) to practice (company) not only provides students with the necessary tools to build their careers but also allows students to earn during their MBA. ESSEC presents students many options through the Career Advisory Center which receives more than 10,000 internship offers per year. The Apprentissage Track An in-company track combining coursework with a professional placement Created by ESSEC in 1994, the Apprentissage Track is a program during which students alternate periods in a company and MBA coursework during two years. The Advantages A wide range of companies from which to choose, with the possibility of being posted in France or abroad. Real hands-on experience and a privileged relationship with a company. A corporate network that will help secure employment upon graduation. Significant financial support since the company covers students school fees and pays a salary for the entire duration of the track. MBA Mentoring Program ESSEC has developed an innovative mentoring program in which students are accompanied by a trained mentor (faculty members, alumni, senior staff, corporate friends) throughout the MBA. Mentors Monitor students professional and personal projects Give feedback and help students to assess their professional and interpersonal skills Offer advice on the choice of courses, professional and international experiences and career orientation. Companies contributing to teaching and research Adidas AT Kearney Deloitte IBM KPMG L'Oréal Mc Kinsey Procter & Gamble Unilever The "Apprentissage Track" is a very interesting contract for MBA students, especially for those coming from countries like India where the high exchange rates and high domestic education loan rates make the cost of the MBA very high. The track not only funds your entire tuition fees but on top of it, gives a monthly remuneration for the entire duration of the contract i.e. two years. Your obligation to the contract is to study for 1 year and work for the company for 1 year and you can choose the rhythm of working as weekly, 3 months or 6 months. The Apprentissage Track is not only about financial aid, it provides an amazing opportunity to spend a long time in the company. You have more responsibility than an intern so you get a very valuable work experience. Finally, it gives you an opportunity to prove your mettle to your future employer since many students get offered a full-time job at the end of the track. In sum "Apprentissage" is a win-win-win situation for the student, company and ESSEC by helping more students in financing their studies. Praveen Kumar, ESSEC MBA student

14 The Singapore Campus Singapore: an educational, financial and cultural hub The Singapore campus is the third ESSEC campus in existence. It was opened in 2005 with three main objectives: to strengthen participants understanding of issues specific to Asia. to increase ESSEC activity on an international level. to offer a welcoming structure for researchers and professors wishing to develop their professional activity and studies. Via its history, environment, infrastructures and its strategic decision to be at the heart of Asian learning industries and higher education, Singapore has rapidly established itself as the ideal site for ESSEC s Asian campus. Situated between India and China, Singapore has become the genuine hub of Asian higher education, offering an amalgam of different Asian societies that facilitates integration for foreign students. The city itself is renowned for offering a happy blend of tradition and modernity and is characterized by a multicultural and multilingual society. The standard of living is amongst the best in Asia, with state-of-the-art facilities and ever-increasing business implantation serving as proof of the continued rise of the city and the country as a whole. The Asian track program offered by ESSEC was for me an incredible opportunity to spend 6 months in Singapore, an astonishing multicultural city-state island and a wonderful gateway to the whole South-East Asian region, about which I knew almost nothing. The courses taught at the Singapore Campus by very highly-qualified professors gave us an insight of the extremely rich culture of the countries in the region, and a better understanding of their economic choices and forthcoming challenges. We were even offered Chines lessons, which were so interesting that I intend to keep on learning this language. Actually, the Asian track opened for me a wide range of both career and life new opportunities. Houda BOUALLOU, ESSEC MBA student The Singapore Campus, in the very heart of the business district and located on the premises of the National Library.

15 The Cergy Campus Comprising a university community of 20,000 students, Cergy is just a 30-minute journey from central Paris and 30 minutes from Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport. ESSEC s 45,000m² campus is located 5 minutes away from the town center and in easy reach of the local shops, a cinema, theater and swimming pool. Students can choose between living in Paris or in one of the three student halls of residence where almost 900 rooms and apartments are available. A full range of facilities are provided, including a convenient shuttle service to and from the main campus. The on-campus Learning Center comprises a fully-stocked library with over 60,000 publications, work rooms, lecture theaters, wireless Internet access and computer facilities. Student life is rich and varied, with sporting, cultural, professional and humanitarian associations currently offering a range of dynamic projects and activities. MBA students may participate in student associations ranging from sports to cultural, international, humanitarian and professional activities. Financing for International Students Students are advised to seek financial aid as soon as they begin the application process. There are several types of aid: Bank loans at preferential rates for citizens of certain countries International public scholarships (e.g. Eiffel, Alban, Ile-de-France Region) Company Scholarship Schemes (e.g. Accor, L Oréal, Thales) ESSEC Excellence Scholarships program Apprentissage Track For more information on financial aid:
