Worship Team Audition and Mentoring Process A person who feels called to play/sing on a worship team has two options for joining. 1. A scheduled audition with a small team using the Hamlin Worship Team Ministry Audition Packet If after the audition it is determined by the team that the person has a heart for leading worship at Hamlin, subscribes to the covenant, and has proficiency on their instrument, they will be placed on a team that has an opening. If after the audition it is determined that the person needs some growth time, they will be placed with a mentor and will follow the mentoring process described below. 2. Being linked with a mentor for 6 months. The mentor will be someone who plays the same instrument with great skill. The mentee will act as a part of their mentor s team during all rehearsals. They will practice alongside the mentor and learn all the same music. The mentor will also schedule meeting times with their mentee to get to know them and learn their heart for worship. At the end of 6 months, the mentor will make a recommendation to the worship coordinator as to whether the mentee is ready to join a team full time. * If no opening is available the person will be used as a substitute and on extra teams throughout the year. * If it is determined after the mentoring process that the person is better suited to serve in a different capacity, leadership will help them find the best place for them at Hamlin.
Hamlin Worship Team Ministry We are so pleased that you have expressed interest in participating in the Worship Ministry here at Hamlin. We are thrilled that you desire to be a part of our team and excited to see what God has in store for you. The screening process is not intended to humiliate anyone, but instead to encourage Christians to use their God-given gifts and talents to fulfill their personal mission for Christ. I pray that this will be a Spirit-driven process of prayer, encouragement, and discovery. We want to find the best way for you to become a new member and so we offer two options as a way to find out if the worship team is the place God has for you to serve at Hamlin. Option #1 You can choose to do an audition with a small group from the teams. Option #2 You can be paired up with a mentor for 6 months to play/sing alongside them at their rehearsals. Here are some things that may be helpful to you in preparing for your meeting: 1. Come prepared to share a little about your relationship with God. You don't have to give a full-blown testimony, but we'd like to hear a little about your faith journey. 2. Be aware that there may be some things that you won't be able to adequately prepare for. We may ask you to try and sing a harmony part or improvise on a familiar song. We may give you some new music and ask you to try and read a part. 3. Think about any aspects of your musical background that may be helpful to us and come prepared to let us know. 4. Be aware that we may not select you for the worship team at this time. We don't want to disappoint anyone, but this is the reality of the situation. We want you to serve where God has called you and equipped you. Even with great musical ability, the worship team may not be that place at Hamlin. 5. Be yourself. We don't want this to be a stressful or intimidating experience for you, so try to relax and enjoy the process. this ministry. In Him, Bekah Dale One last thing I will ask you to do. Be in prayer about your purpose, giftedness, and call into Worship Coordinator
Screening Process We desire for everyone to feel as comfortable as possible during any situation where you put your heart and your talents on the line. Because of this, the two options listed on the previous page hopefully give you a comfortable place to share your talents with us. If you choose Option #1 you will be given 5 songs to learn and practice. We will schedule an audition time for you to play/sing with a small group from the worship teams. We will ask you to play/sing 3 of the 5 songs along with us. During this time, we will also have a question and answer time so that we can learn more about your heart for worship and you can ask us any questions you have as well. If after the audition it is decided that the best place for you to serve is on a worship team, you will be plugged into a team on a rotation or, if no open spot is available, used as a substitute when the need arises until a spot is open. If you choose Option #2 you will be paired up with a veteran member of the team, who is your same instrument, for a 6 month time period. During this time, you will attend all their scheduled rehearsals and play/sing alongside them. You will be responsible for learning all the music for their weeks but you will not play/sing during services. We will also schedule a question and answer time with your mentor, the worship coordinator, and another member of the worship team so that we can learn more about your heart for worship and so you can ask us questions as well. If, after the 6 month period, it is decided that the best place for you to serve is on a worship team, you will be plugged into a team on a rotation or, if no spot is available, used as a substitute when the need arises until a spot is open. During this process, it may become evident to you, your mentor, or the worship coordinator that the worship team is not the best fit for you. Please be mindful of God s plan for your talents and what He has equipped you to do. We will do our best during this time to help you find that perfect fit for you so that God s plan for your life and His plan for Hamlin can be fulfilled. Attached to this packet, you will find the Worship Team Covenant. Every member of the Hamlin Worship Team is held to this standard. As a new member of the team you have the option to sign this covenant as a physical statement of your joining with us. You do not have to sign the document. However, the beliefs and guidelines are what we strive to hold each other to on a weekly basis.

Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church Worship Ministry Team Covenant 2013 Goals of the Worship Team To give sincere praise and worship to God through the music we play, the songs we sing, and the lives we live. To help the congregation connect with and give praise and worship to God. To offer a variety of musical styles and songs in hopes that every service includes a heart song for each age-group in our multi-generational church. Requirements to be on the Worship Team We must have a saving faith in Christ, be an active servant in the body at Hamlin, and actively attend church services, bible study, and fellowships. We must have proficiency in an area that pertains to the worship ministry at Hamlin (a musical instrument, voice, audio/visual engineering, etc ). We must meet with church leadership to discuss the worship team covenant, our testimony, our heart for leading worship, and our heart for service in the church. Our Commitment We will hold this ministry with an open heart and mind, leaving our involvement on the worship team up to the Lord s guidance and leadership s input. We commit to spiritual growth and maturity. We strive to run the race set before us and pursue the Son of God with passion and devotion. We acknowledge that worship is an act of humility, self-sacrifice, and an expression of our praise to God. It is not an opportunity to seek position, assume power, gain credit, or draw attention to our skills. We will develop and demonstrate a servant s attitude and heart, with the understanding that participating on the worship team is an act of privileged service to Hamlin s church body. We will strive to make our everyday behaviors point to God, and will not cause those around us to stumble. Our daily actions are the best opportunity for us to worship God and to validate the platform from which we serve. We will commit to guard the unity of the church by refraining from gossip. We will not speak or listen to negative words or gossip about fellow team members, church members, church ministries or leadership. We will strive to deal with fellow team members with an attitude of patience, understanding, grace, mercy, and a spirit of humility. We will continually work to foster an atmosphere for growth and accountability. We will work through relational problems, process anger constructively, encourage and build up other team members, maintain confidences, and communicate all concerns in a godly and prayerful manner. We will come to services spiritually prepared in order to be effective in leading others in worship. This includes praying for the services, staff, fellow team members, and asking God to prepare our hearts for every service.
We will be intentional in the development of our talents and abilities. Our talents are not our own; they were given to bring God glory and to further His kingdom. We will work to act, speak, and dress in a Christian manner as a representative of the church and of Jesus Christ. We will regularly attend worship services (not only when serving on a worship team). We will not just learn words, parts, beats, rhythms, or chord changes; but will prepare fully to lead Hamlin in worship. We know that our absences or lateness affects the entire worship team so we will strive to be respectful of and responsible with everyone s time. Responsibilities of a Worship Team Member We will communicate clearly and regularly with the leadership. We will let them know of schedules, availability, and conflicts at the earliest moment. We will be at rehearsals prepared and on time (Sunday at 8:15 a.m./wednesday at 7:45 p.m.). We will take time each week to practice and listen to the songs for worship. We will listen to any new songs so that we are prepared for rehearsal. We understand missing rehearsal means we miss serving in worship that week. We understand changes might need to be made on team rotations and that it will be clearly communicated when and why. We will not use phones or electronic devices during rehearsal except for emergencies so that we can be fully present in body and mind. We will continually be listening for music that will offer diversity and growth in worship. We will share those ideas with team members and leadership. We will assemble music folders before Wednesday rehearsal and put away music folders after Sunday morning service. Responsibilities of the Worship Team Leader The leader will communicate all schedules clearly. The leader will be flexible with people s schedules and availability, being respectful of their heart and willingness to serve. The leader will prepare the set list by Monday and will send it by that day. The leader will have music prepared at least 30 minutes before Wednesday rehearsal. The leader will lead with an open mind, compassion, an attitude of service, and a heart for excellence in worship. As a member of the worship team, I will strive to commit to these values and guidelines. Signature Date I am choosing not to sign at this time. Printed Name
