1 Palomar College New Program Proposal CAD/CAM Design & Manufacturing (A.S. Degree) Step 1 Verbal Notification Pursuant the recommendations of the Labor Market Analysis for San Diego County regarding Advanced Manufacturing dated October 2014, and unanimous support of various advisory Committees, Palomar College is proposing a new program in Advanced Manufacturing. CAD/CAM Design and Manufacturing ( ) This program will provide students with the knowledge and hands-on learning of: 2D and 3D Modeling using a variety of computer aided modeling software packages, machine programming and set up, the operation of a variety of computer-controlled machines and precision measuring to produce accurate manufactured parts. Emphasis is placed on safety, 3D modeling, machine programming, machine operating, manufacturing techniques, and precision measuring to insure accuracy and exactness of manufactured parts to dimensional tolerances from engineering drawings. This program will address the shift from traditional manufacturing to advanced manufacturing by focusing on the complete CAD/CAM manufacturing process. Starting with 3D design and modeling, documentation, CAM programming, CAD/CAM machining, and computer measuring to complete the manufacturing cycle from product development to final manufactured components. Labor market/employer needs: Center of Excellence performed Labor Market Analysis for San Diego County, Advanced Manufacturing Anticipated enrollments: students/year Anticipated impact: No other college credit classes or programs in North San Diego County Start Date: Fall 2016 Top Code: Industrial Technology , no other credit Industrial Technology programs related to manufacturing in North San Diego County Program Learning Outcomes 1. Design 2d and 3d models using AutoCAD, SolidWORKS, Creo, and MasterCAM. 2. Program various computer-aided machines (Lathes, 3-4 and -5 axis mills) for optimal machining techniques.
2 3. Set-up and operate various computer-aided machines to produce precision parts from engineering drawings. 4. Use computer aided measuring equipment to check the tolerances and accuracy of machined parts for quality control.
