1 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile December 2015 Windows 10 Mobile empowers you to do great work on any device. It allows you to be more efficient because your user experience stays consistent. And because your settings, data, and access rights follow you, you don t have to adjust to changes in formatting or layout when you switch between devices. You can operate your Windows 10 Mobile phone like a PC with Continuum for phones and still make and receive calls. For more information about Continuum for phones, see NOTES, in the Continuum section of this guide. Every Windows 10 Mobile device comes with the Microsoft Office Mobile suite built in. Skype for Business, OneDrive for Business, and other productivity apps can quickly be installed, making it easy to connect and collaborate with your coworkers, partners, and customers. With a consistent experience across phones, tablets, and PCs, it helps you do great work on any device. Preinstalled Office apps provide excellent collaboration and communication. Enterprise-grade security meets the strictest requirements to help protect corporate information and resources without disrupting your productivity. And you can choose from a wide range of devices that meet your design and technical needs. New features include: Windows apps built on the Universal Windows Platform that automatically adapt to different form factors and screen sizes. Microsoft Edge the all-new browser built to give you a better web experience is made for easy sharing, reading, discovery, and getting things done online. PIN-based, Multi-Factor Authentication credentials and Windows Hello biometrics for strong authentication. NOTE: Windows Hello requires a specialized illuminated infrared camera for facial recognition or iris detection, or a fingerprint reader that supports the Windows Biometric Framework. Continuum for phones, which lets you connect your phone to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to operate your phone like a PC while still maintaining the ability to make and receive calls. Key features Action Center Now you can dismiss individual items from Action Center, instead of all the items for an app. Just select the item or items to dismiss, and swipe to the right. You can expand the number of quick settings buttons, expand a notification to read more of its content, dismiss individual notifications, and take other actions such as replying to text message notifications all directly from Action Center. Action Center also now extends to Windows 10 desktops and laptops. Continuum Continuum for phones lets you connect your Windows 10 Mobile device to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse using a Continuum Display Dock to operate your phone like a PC. Instead of a zoomed-in view of a phone app on a larger screen, apps scale smoothly to a monitor and unveil additional navigation and content. When you interact with an app on the larger screen, your phone can either send or receive calls and texts, or run apps without interrupting the app on the larger screen. Figure 1. Continuum for phones is limited to select premium Windows 10 Mobile phones at launch. External monitors must support HDMI input. Continuum Display Dock and other Continuum-compatible accessories are sold separately. App availability and experience varies by device and market. Cortana Cortana is your digital personal assistant that works across all of your Windows 10 devices to help you get things done. Cortana helps you be more productive by handling key tasks such as sending and scheduling events. Using the power of Bing, Cortana can quickly search your devices, the cloud, and the web to find what you are looking for. Cortana can automatically track packages and flight status. By learning more about you over time, Cortana becomes more useful every day. Tap the search button on your Windows 10 Mobile phone to launch Cortana. A long press on the search button will launch Cortana in listening mode. For convenience, you can also tap the Cortana icon in the app list or pin it to your Start screen. NOTE: Cortana for Windows 10 Mobile phones is available in select markets at launch; the Cortana experience may vary by region and device. Easier-to-access messaging With Windows 10 Mobile, there s no need to interrupt what you re doing on your phone to type out a quick reply to a text. When you receive an incoming message, it appears at the top of your screen as a notification banner. You can respond to new messages directly from the notification banner. When you get a notification, you can: Pull down on the notification to reply, and when you re done, you can go right back to what you were doing before by pressing Start > Back. Swipe up on the notification to quickly clear it from your screen or just ignore it and it will disappear after a few seconds. Tap the notification to see the entire thread in the Messaging app. If you can t take action on the notification before it disappears, you can still reply to the new text quickly: 1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to go to the Action Center, where you ll see the new text along with your other unread messages.

4 Page 4 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile 2. Tap the arrow to see the entire message and reply to it directly from the Action Center. NOTE: On a Windows 10 Mobile phone, if you reply to a group message using a banner notification (that is, by pulling down on the banner and replying inline), your response is sent as a separate SMS message to each recipient, rather than as a group MMS even if you have group texting turned on in your Messaging settings. File Explorer Find files saved on your phone docs, photos, music, and more using the new File Explorer app. Within File Explorer, you can select a place (such as Recent or This Device) to find the file you want. Depending on your specific hardware, you may also see other places for example, a removable memory card will show up as a D: drive. Photos With new Windows 10 Mobile phones, you can take fantastic pictures with advanced imaging features and high-end cameras come standard on select phones. Professional-grade controls and living images help you get great shots on the go that are ready to share with friends and family. With the Photos app, you can bring photos and videos from all of your devices together and automatically upload everything to OneDrive. Settings Navigate Settings easier with a new look, organized by function. In addition, Settings now has a search box so you can quickly find the exact setting you want. Figure 2. Keyboard improvements Write faster and easier with new keyboard improvements: Drag your finger from letter to letter to quickly form a word, then string words together into a sentence by lifting your finger after each word to insert a space. Move the keyboard around the screen as needed. On phones with a screen that is five inches or larger, reposition your keyboard by pressing and holding the spacebar to unlock it. Then

5 Page 5 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile drag your finger up or down the screen to place it. Drag the keyboard to either side of your screen to lock it in place. Tap the microphone at the top of the keyboard to dictate what you want to write. Use the new cursor controller on the keyboard to move between characters and lines easily. Personalization Customize your background, sounds, and lock screen (and preview your changes before committing) with the new Personalization menu in Settings. Microsoft Edge web browser All Windows 10 Mobile devices include Microsoft Edge, the new browser built to give a cleaner, smarter, and better online experience. Use Reading view to clear away distractions while you read online. Sign in with your Microsoft account to see your favorites and your reading list across all your Windows 10 devices. For better security, SmartScreen automatically blocks access to suspicious sites. Windows Hello Windows Hello is a more personal way to sign in. It allows you to use facial, fingerprint, or iris recognition instead of using a PIN or a password. Windows Hello unlocks Windows 10 devices and gives you access to all of your credentials. This biometric support eliminates the need to remember passwords, providing a simple, personal experience. NOTE: Windows Hello requires a specialized illuminated infrared camera for facial recognition or iris detection, or a fingerprint reader that supports the Windows Biometric Framework. The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are ready to use Windows Hello now, and more phones supporting Windows Hello will be available in the future. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options to set up Windows Hello. (If you don't see a sign-in option for Windows Hello, your phone doesn't support it.) Once you re set up, you ll be able to unlock your phone at a glance. NOTE: You may be asked to create a PIN before you can set up Windows Hello. Windows Store Easily accessed from your Start screen, Windows Store includes hundreds of thousands of apps to personalize your Windows 10 Mobile device. All apps are checked for malware before they are published in Windows Store, helping to protect against threats to your device. Enrolling in device management Corporate policies and device enrollment With Windows 10 Mobile, businesses can implement secure access to corporate resources more easily than ever before. Using a PIN provides strong authentication with built-in, multi-factor credentials that can be used with Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, or the Microsoft account service to enable single sign-on. Once unlocked with a PIN or Windows Hello facial, iris, or fingerprint scan, phones with Windows 10 Mobile have instant access to all of your authorized applications and data.

6 Page 6 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile The phone also functions as a mobile credential for signing in to other PCs, making it easier to implement two-factor authentication across your organization. To help ensure secure access to corporate networks, phones with Windows 10 Mobile support always-on VPN for automatically blocking malicious applications. Enrolling your phone in device management pushes security policies to the device and can give you access to your corporate wireless network, AutoConnect VPN, and internal line of business (LOB) apps through your organization s Company Portal. NOTE: For detailed instructions about enrolling your device and installing apps through your Company Portal, contact your organization s network administrator. Security policies Device enrollment pushes security policies to your phone. If you have not already set a PIN, you may be prompted to create one. Device encryption may also be turned on via your organization s policy. Company Portal You can install the Company Portal app from Windows Store. After you have enrolled in device management, the Company Portal app gives you access to your organization s internal LOB apps. Corporate wireless network After your device has been enrolled in device management, you should be able to connect to your organization s corporate wireless network. NOTE: It may take up to 15 minutes for the certificates to be pushed to your device. You can verify that your corporate network is available by doing the following: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap Settings. 2. Tap Network & Wireless > Wi-Fi to make sure Wi-Fi networking is turned on. Your wireless network should appear under Available Wi-Fi networks. NOTE: Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) may prevent smartphones from using many internal on-premises resources directly. To connect to internal resources, contact your network administrator for instructions on setting up a VPN. Mobile VPN A VPN (Virtual Private Network) lets you connect to your corporate network from a remote location. After your device has been enrolled in device management, the VPN profile will be pushed to your device (this may take up to 15 minutes). Getting productive Workplace apps designed for Windows 10 help you get up and running quickly. Manage important documents with OneDrive for Business (this requires a Microsoft Office 365 Business subscription), communicate and collaborate in real time with Skype for Business, and keep on top of your work and calendar through Outlook. Preinstalled Office Every phone with Windows 10 Mobile is preinstalled with the Office Mobile suite. Office apps on the Windows Universal Platform like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote provide a consistent

Managing in Outlook Mail is simplified with one-swipe flagging and deletion, and Outlook Calendar lets you schedule recurring meetings on the go. OneDrive for Business With OneDrive for Business you can store, share, and search directly from your Windows 10 Mobile phone. You can start work on a file on your PC, and then continue on your Windows 10 Mobile phone or vice versa. To get started with OneDrive for Business on your Windows 10 Mobile phone: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap OneDrive. 2. If you see, tap (Menu) to switch to Account settings. 3. Tap Account settings > Account. 4. Tap Add account > Work or school account. 5. Sign in to your work account using your corporate logon credentials. 6. Follow the steps to complete the second authentication factor. Your OneDrive for Business account should now be available on your phone. Skype for Business Windows 10 Mobile also supports Skype for Business, which provides online conferencing and collaboration. NOTE: You will need to download Skype for Business from the Windows Store. With Skype for Business on your Windows 10 Mobile phone, you can: Conduct online meetings, messaging, calls, video, and sharing with up to 250 people. Find anyone in the company address book and schedule meetings in Outlook. Use online status to let people know your availability and see the availability of others. Benefit from enterprise-grade security and management of your account. To download Skype for Business: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap Skype for Business. IMPORTANT: Make sure you tap Skype for Business, not Skype (for personal use). 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure Skype for Business for your work account.

8 Page 8 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile Exchange Sync You can set up your Windows 10 Mobile phone to synchronize with Outlook (Exchange) to get real-time access to your corporate , calendar, and contacts when connected to the Internet or a Wi-Fi network. To sync your phone with Exchange: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap Settings. 2. Tap Accounts > Your and accounts. 3. Tap Add an account and then select Exchange. 4. Enter your corporate account name and password, and then wait while your device discovers the server and notifies you that your account has been added. 5. When prompted, tap Set to begin the password process. Choose a PIN, and type it in the Password field. Confirm your PIN by typing it again, then tap Done. Your device should then sync. NOTE: If you previously set up a PIN on the phone, you will not be prompted to create a new one your old PIN will remain the same. Only a hard reset will clear the device of the original PIN. Working with SharePoint Online sites By using a Windows 10 Mobile phone and SharePoint Online, you can use your phone to view information on SharePoint sites, collaborate with colleagues, access shared documents, and stay connected with your work. Recent improvements have made SharePoint Online even more touch friendly than before. You can use your Windows 10 Mobile phone to: Open documents. You can view your documents, documents that you ve recently used in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, documents that are shared with you, and documents that you re following in SharePoint Online. Find sites. You can see a list of sites that you re following in SharePoint Online, and sites that are promoted by administrators. Navigate SharePoint Online. You can use navigation links to move from a SharePoint Online site to OneDrive for Business, or vice versa. Change your view of some sites. You can switch between pc view (full-screen view) and Mobile view (optimized for mobile devices) for some of the sites and libraries that you use in SharePoint Online. Mobile view and pc view In Mobile view, you see the site in a format optimized for your mobile phone. In pc view, you see the SharePoint Online navigation links, and the page looks virtually identical to what you would see on a desktop or laptop PC.

9 Page 9 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile To switch to Mobile view: 1. Open a SharePoint Online site in Microsoft Edge. 2. In the lower right corner of the SharePoint page, tap More, and then tap switch to pc view. 3. To switch back to Mobile view, tap Settings (upper right corner) on the SharePoint Online page, and then tap Mobile view. Some sites are preconfigured to offer the Mobile view option. For other sites, you need to activate the Mobile Browser View feature. To activate Mobile view: 1. Open a SharePoint site in Microsoft Edge. 2. In the lower-right corner of Microsoft Edge, tap More, and then tap Settings. 3. Tap Mobile version (under Website preference). 4. To switch back to Mobile view, tap Settings on the SharePoint page (upper right corner), and then tap Mobile view. Traveling with your device Whenever you do anything on your phone that requires a network connection, your phone may connect to a cellular data network to transmit information. You can avoid unexpected charges by changing your cellular data settings. You can also set a data usage limit in Windows. If you re connected to a Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi network connection is used instead. To change the setting for using a cellular data connection: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, tap Settings > Network & wireless, and then tap Cellular & Sim. 2. Tap Data connection to turn cellular data on or off.

10 Page 10 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile To set a data usage limit: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, tap Settings > Network & wireless, and then tap Data usage. 2. Tap Set limit, and choose a frequency type Monthly, One time, or Unlimited. 3. Depending on the frequency type, choose the reset or the expiration date. 4. For a monthly or one-time frequency, set a data limit size. Data roaming Data roaming occurs when your phone is outside the cellular network area that your mobile operator uses to send and receive data. Your mobile operator might charge additional fees for data roaming. By default, your phone is set to Don t roam, but you can change this setting at any time. To turn cellular data on or off: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, tap Settings > Network & wireless, and then tap Cellular & Sim. 2. Tap Data connection to turn cellular data on or off. To change your data roaming setting: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, tap Settings > Network & wireless, and then tap Cellular & Sim. 2. Under Data roaming options, choose one of the following: Don t roam. When you enter a roaming area, your cellular data connection will be turned off. Roam. When you enter a roaming area, your phone will continue to use its cellular data connection. If available, use a Wi-Fi connection instead of a cellular data connection to minimize cellular data usage. International calling To make an international call: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, tap Phone, and then tap Dial pad. 2. Tap and hold 0 on the Dial pad until the + sign appears. The plus (+) sign indicates you are making an international call (instead of entering the international call prefix for the country you are in). 3. Enter the following on the Dial pad: The plus sign (+) followed by the country or region code The phone number For example: To dial a number in Norway, enter +47 followed by the phone number. 4. Tap Call.

11 Page 11 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile Airplane mode Airlines often require that you turn off connectivity on your phone during flights. Airplane mode is a setting on your phone that lets you turn off the cellular connection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and near field communication (NFC) sharing on your phone simultaneously. This way, you can use apps or other features that do not require a cellular connection. While your phone is in Airplane mode, you can still turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC sharing separately. Cellular connectivity remains off until you turn Airplane mode off. To turn Airplane mode on or off: 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, and then tap Settings. 2. Tap Network & wireless > Airplane mode. 3. Turn Status to On or Off. Update your phone software over the air When you are notified about an available software update, you can download it directly to your phone over a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection. Before downloading an update: Make sure your phone is fully charged, so you don t lose power during the update. If possible, connect your phone to an electrical outlet or to a powered USB port on a computer. For better performance and savings, connect to a Wi-Fi network instead of your cellular data service. Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection. Make sure you have enough storage space on your phone for the update: To check storage space, press Start and swipe to All apps, then tap Settings > System > Storage. NOTE: The ability to download updates through a cellular data connection depends on the size of the updates. Larger updates require a Wi-Fi connection. Securing your device Device-based threat protection Phones with Windows 10 Mobile include hardware-based protection features, like UEFI Secure Boot and a Trusted Platform Model (TPM) processor, that are designed to prevent any tampering with startup processes or user credentials. The same level of protection is extended to the platform and applications with Device Guard, which is designed to ensure that only signed, trusted applications can run, locking out any potentially dangerous applications. If a trusted app is somehow compromised, application sandboxing (which limits the environment in which certain code can run) helps prevent malicious code from impacting the system, data, and other apps. Online threats can also be prevented by using Microsoft Edge, which includes improved SmartScreen protection designed for identifying and blocking all access to phishing sites without affecting browser performance.

12 Page 12 Get more done with Windows 10 Mobile Resetting your device There are two ways to reset your Windows 10 Mobile phone: A soft reset, or reboot, will clear RAM and reboot the device without affecting any settings or data. Often, rebooting resolves minor issues such as freezing or unexpected behavior. A hard reset, or factory reset, restores the phone to its factory or out-of-the-box settings. All your personal content including data, call history, text messages, and apps are erased. Before you reset your phone, you can back up your data, apps, text messages, photos, and more to the cloud. To soft reset your phone: 1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons. 2. When the device vibrates, release the Power button. This will reboot the phone. To hard reset your phone: WARNING: Hard resetting your phone will erase all content stored on your phone, including apps, text messages, call history, music, photos, and any settings you have customized. Before performing a hard reset, be sure to read about reset protection at You may be prompted for your password in order to hard reset the phone. 1. Press Start and swipe to All apps, then tap Settings. 2. Tap System > About. 3. Tap Reset your phone. 4. You will see two warnings: A message alerting you that resetting your phone will erase all personal content, including apps, games, pictures, music, and videos, and will restore the factory settings. A confirmation message.

It might take a little while to complete the reset process.
