Currently the Hartfield Exchange only supports ADSL Max Telephone Cabinet Each building with a telephone line is connected to one of the Telephone Cabinets. We have identified approx 8 of these throughout the Parish, although there is likely more! Premise / Building Your own network connection inside your building/premises may affect your internet speed too! Particularly Wireless in large estates or buildings with thick walls

7 Maximum theoretical download speeds of 24Mbps Most people experience download speeds of 7-12Mbps [source: OfCom] Typical upload speeds of Mbps Internet Hartfield Exchange Telephone Cabinet Premise / Building With ADSL2 the main Exchange connection is upgraded. This allows faster download and upload speeds All other infrastructure remains the same as ADSL.

8 Maximum download speeds of 40Mbps (BT Infinity) Most people experience download speeds of 30-33Mbps [source: OfCom] Typical upload speeds of 2 10 Mbps Internet Hartfield Exchange Telephone Cabinet Premise / Building This includes an upgrade to the connection to each Cabinet to speed of light Optical Fibre. The Last Mile to the premise remains Copper, so there can be some degredation in speed, but not as much as ADSL.

9 Download speeds of Mbps (Virgin Media & BT Infinity) Most people experience near 100% of maximum speed [source: OfCom] Typical upload speeds of Mbps Internet Hartfield Exchange Telephone Cabinet Premise / Building With FttP the Last Mile is also upgraded to high speed cable connections. This involves a physical cable being installed between your building and the cabinet

Speeds of up to 25Mbps down (and 5Mbps up) No need for Telephone Lines Requires masts with Fibre connections (which may be unsightly in AONB) Building may need Line-of-Sight (i.e. hills and trees can cause problems) Internet Hartfield Exchange Premise / Building The advantage of using Wireless is that the signal is beamed straight to your premise. There is no need for existing telephone cables to your building.

17 67 responses to residential survey received to date (approx. 8% return) Clear demand for an improved broadband service Good service close to the exchange Service decreases with increasing distance from the exchange Worst service received by those > 3km from the exchange

18 First step 168 local businesses were identified through an initial internet search Sussex Association of Local Councils (SALC) have indicated that countywide approximately 10% of residents in a community might be classed as home workers
