Component of the economic vision for Bucks Key to competitiveness of Bucks offer Business growth, job creation, entrepreneurship Public sector transformation, service delivery Social equity, sustainability, tele-health Growing need for better connectivity, increased speeds Market will deliver circa 72% superfast broadband by 2015 Desire to provide ubiquitous coverage Local and Central Government intervention required
4 Connected Counties Bucks-Herts partnership Councils, LEPs and Government Established in 2011, Local Broadband Plan approved early 2012 Used Government Framework, coordinated by Broadband Delivery UK Funding from Bucks/Herts CC, Bucks Thames Valley/Herts LEPs, BDUK and supplier to tackle areas of market failure Underwent substantial procurement process (State Aid, data capture, engagement, evaluation etc) Award contract to supplier with best solution
5 Contract award BT awarded contract, publically announced end of June 2013 Contract value of over 18m BT contributing 8.6m in capital and operating expenditure Over 52,000 premises will be able to access superfast broadband, 38,500 in Bucks Will also deliver a guaranteed minimum speed of 2 Mbps to all premises Completion will be by March 2016, 91% NGA coverage A mixture of technologies will be used such as fibre, emphasising capacity and speed
6 Next steps - process A complex programme of works Delivered in phases geographical clusters, efficiency Phasing follows the sequence of events as described below Pre- Planning Exchange Preparation Surveying Installation Ready for Service A full assessment of existing network to provide accurate information for engineering teams Agree and plan when new equipment will be placed inside the exchange Planning the network, surveying underground ducts and deciding where the new fibre, street cabinets and over ground equipment will go Building the new network from the exchange to the new street cabinets and making it ready for service Fibre broadband services available to order and intensive demand stimulation activity
7 Technological solutions FTTC achieves speeds of up to 80 Mbps FTTP speeds up to 330 Mbps ADSL enhances copper performance Emphasis on maximising fibre rollout Downstream technology to be applied

9 Implications for LAF area Exchanges, cabinets and premises are in scope for fibre upgrades Fibre broadband in Waddesdon, Brill, Grendon Underwood exchange areas Minimum of 2 Mbps in Stratton Audley, North Martson exchange areas Work to commence in 2014 (Waddesdon, Brill), 2015 (Grendon Underwood, Stratton Audley North Marston) Homes and businesses to benefit from connectivity Wholesale platform provides wide choice of suppliers Minimum superfast speed of 24 Mbps, 100% 2 Mbps access Capture of strong demand HP18 (519 registrations), OX27 (18 registrations) Not every premise will be guaranteed superfast coverage cabinet not enabled, copper line length issues
