1 Great Yarmouth High School Music Year 7 Long Term Plan 2016/17 Topic: Objectives/Learning Outcomes: Skills & Techniques/ Assessment & link to KS3 Mastery Differentiation Notes Autumn 1: The Elements of Music To gain basic musical knowledge through exploration of musical elements. To develop basic five finger technique and stave notation through performing a simple keyboard piece To develop knowledge of stave notation through composing rhythm ideas To deepen understanding of musical elements through listening. independent practice, time management, performing and reflection. Task: to play a piece of music on a keyboard Super Trooper by Abba Get Started play the melody line using five finger technique. Developing skills play the melody line fluently using five finger technique, in time with the backing track. Master It! play the melody and LH single fingers chords fluently. Task: To compose musical rhythms using ICT software Get Started compose rhythm patterns using symbols Develop your skills compose rhythms using simple stave notation Master It! compose imaginative rhythm patterns using a wider range of musical notes Task: Listen to the two extracts of music and identify how the musical elements have been used to create the mood Gustav Holst, The Planets Get Started Identify how the elements are used Develop your skills match the keywords to each extract Master It! To develop technique and stave notation through performing an extended keyboard piece or though singing To develop knowledge of stave notation through composing melodic ideas To deepen understanding of musical structure through listening. Task: to play a piece of music linked to Christmas Get started follow a simple melody line accurately, play a basic part Develop your skills play a melody line of more than 8 bars fluently, follow your part in time Master It! play a significant part accurately and fluently showing good technique Task: To compose a simple melodic idea (leitmotif) Get Started write the note names and perform a simple tune. Develop your skills write the pitches of each note as stave notation Master It! compose an imaginative melody line to represent a character. 3 Spring 1: World Music techniques through exploration of music from other parts of the world. To develop performance technique and read stave notation through performing rhythms on African percussion techniques through creating contrast using musical elements and stave notation. through listening and comparing features. Task: Singing Waka Waka Task: To perform rhythms using African percussion Get Started follow call & response rhythms, read from stave notation Develop your skills perform rhythms from stave notation and in a round. Master It! perform rhythms from stave notation using a range of techniques (call & response/imitation/unison/round/improvised) Task: To create contrast in composition Get Started use the Elements of music to create contrast Develop your skills create 2 different melody ideas of at least 8 bars. Master It! Create 2 effective and imaginative contrasting ideas (combine stave notation with the Elements of music!) Task: Listen and compare music from two different continents Get Started list some differences, answer the questions as bullet points Develop your skills write a few sentences describing what you hear using the questions as prompts for your thinking. Master It! Write a paragraph comparing the similarities and differences between the music performances. Task: Watch the TV advert and describe how Traditional Indian Music and Bhangra has been used to create a mood Get Started identify differences between Traditional and Bhangra music Develop your skills describe how the music has been used in the advert. Master It! Explain how the music has been used to support the ideals of the new Peugeot car.

Task: Singing Price Tag Task: To perform a guitar part in a song Get Started perform simple riffs fluently Develop your skills follow a bass line or chord progression in time with the CD. Task: To compose a Riff Get Started compose a simple riff Develop your skills compose a riff that fits with two chords Master It! create a 4 bar riff from four chords Task: to analyse different aspects of a song Where is the Love Get Started describe the message the lyrics tell us. Develop your skills Explain the difference between the verse and the chorus. Master It! Analyse the song. Identify how many bars intro, identify instruments and explain what they are doing, describe the changes in texture from verse to chorus, describe the changes in the vocals.
