10 Search for missing (s) We know the missing for the admin mailbox was in Feb Note that these pst files are in a zip backup, as well as on the network path (mailbox dir)

11 Search for missing (s) We need to search for the exact item in Outlook, so lets export the relevant psts from the backup to a local dir

13 Find s across multiple mailboxes We need the audit trail for a complex topic, and know the s could be in multiple mailboxes

14 Find s across multiple mailboxes Configure the restore to push the items into a new mailbox created for this purpose

15 Find s across multiple mailboxes Once exported, you can either: Connect directly to the new mailbox using Outlook or OWA and browse/search, or Backup that mailbox to PST and browse at leisure in Outlook

16 Best practices for restore Use the BARC to: extract items from multiple periods directly to the original mailbox, a new mailbox or even a mailbox on a different server retrieve the required pst files for a date range, even from within system backups Use Outlook or OWA to: search, work with or to recover individual items

17 Backup grouping method How does the grouping method affect restores?

18 Grouping method Smaller fewer edits/items means: less chance of corruption quicker search for known date big mailboxes won t overflow so quickly Bigger wider date range per pst means: fewer files to manage easier to search in Outlook (can only search one PST at a time), especially if unsure of the date

19 Backup recommendations Use the smallest grouping possible, for data security Use the always backup option If you will need to search across large time periods often, create a 2 nd job to backup with a larger grouping period But only do this if you have enough backup space and the mailboxes are small enough not to overflow
