5 beauchampcollege A level Entry Requirements: 6 x GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language & Mathematics Entry Requirements for Year 12 Entry 2015 All students will be expected to resit GCSE Mathematics and/or English Language if they have not achieved at least a grade C. L2 General entry requirements: 4 grade Ds including English Language: Subjects: Business Travel and Tourism Performing Arts Production Sport Art and Design ICT Media Music Technology Health and Social Care For students interested in studying the NVQ L2 in Beauty or the VRQ L2 in Hairdressing and interview and skills test will be required. Please contact the College for more information. L3 Applied Courses (BTEC): At least 5 grade Cs at GCSE including English Language Subjects: Production Arts Music Technology Sport Travel and Tourism Fashion
6 AS/A Levels General entry requirements: 6 grade Cs including English Language and at least a C in your chosen subject if studied at GCSE. Many subjects have further specific requirements. These requirements are based on our understanding of the demands of courses & of the qualities which students need to meet these demands successfully. 15 Maths offer ENJOY + LEARN Maths after- school revision programme starting spring Saturday class for C/D borderline (limited places). Maths support outside lessons just ask any maths teacher! Easter revision (limited places). All students will be given revision material in class Easter booklet and solutions. Revision book and CD available for sale in the Maths office

17 English Advice Achieving a C or above in English Language is essential for further study More than likely students on the C/D borderline will be sitting the igcse qualification. This is a full and recognised GCSE qualification It includes speaking and listening assessments, as well as assessed coursework (often more manageable for students equating to 60% of final grade) It involve a 40% exam (involving reading comprehension and a piece of extended writing) If not, they will be sitting the GCSE English Language qualification which is 60% exam and includes 40% controlled assessment.
18 English advice Both the GCSE and igcse are based on reading comprehension particularly non- fiction texts. Students are strongly advised to read non- fiction texts regularly (i.e. newspapers, magazines, reviews, relevant websites) Use SAM learning (plenty of activities) Practise exam questions (supplied by the teacher/available through BOLL) Work hard on completing coursework well and preparing for speaking and listening exams (learning speech with thorough notes really helps) Carefully work on spelling, punctuation and grammar/ careful proof- reading Attend intervention sessions organised in English from after Christmas Attend targeted revision sessions during Easter break Focus in lessons and ask for teacher s support if uncertain
19 Tips for success Parents ü Know the dates and venues of your son/daughter s examinations ü Try and provide a quiet workspace for students at home ü Encourage revision during holidays ü Take an active role in revision if possible ü Ensure they have a good night sleep before major exams ü Encourage breakfast/food on the day of the exam
20 Tips for success Students ü 100% attendance for all remaining Year 11 lessons with 100% effort ü Organise notes/revision materials/revision timetable for trial exams, revision over Christmas holidays ü Attendance at catch- up sessions offered in all subjects ü Sign- up and attend revision sessions offered afterschool or during holidays ü SAM learning / BOLL / Past papers / revision guides
