L e i c SUMMARY & V i v a Codelists - Codelist is created using Leica Geo Office software (basic version is free, which is all you need to create codelists). You can also copy existing codelists to your instrument and Leica Geo Office instead of creating a new one from scratch. - Leica Viva s and the 1200 s use the exact same codelist file. There should be 3 binary files that need to be in the SAME folder. - Codelist makes it easy to code, free coding (multiple coding) and to code attributes (tree size, species etc). - EXDS has sample codelist and map files which use tree size attribute to scale the symbol. Format Files - Format Files are created using Leica Geo Office software (basic version is free, which is all you need to create format files). You can also copy existing format files to your instrument and Leica Geo Office instead of creating a new one from scratch. - Leica Viva s and the 1200 s use the exact same format files. - The most common format file used for TPS & GPS is called EXDS_1200_AtxtAR.FRT. If using GPS with ellipsoidal height use the format file called EXDS_1200_Ellip.FRT - Format Files are used to export the raw data off the instrument into a certain format used by surveying software. Download - Download by copying files off the instrument to a CF Card, which comes from Leica along with a card reader. - Two routes to converting the data from the card into useful info: o Format file o DBX Conversion 2
Upload - Upload by copying files onto the CF Card. - Points upload by creating a csv file File I/O => Data Output => xyz general and copied to the Data folder on the CF Card. - Strings can be copied by creating a dxf file or by using the option Survey => Leica => Strings. - Triangles (T.I.N.) Upload by Leica => 1200 => Triangles. - RoadRunner Upload by Leica => 1200 => Roads. 12d Model will create the binary files that RoadRunner uses. You then copy these files onto your CF card and then copy to your instrument. CODELISTS EXDS has codelists (and associated map files) for use on the 1200 & Viva (J:\SURVEY\Leica\1200\Codelists). The codelist for the Leica 1200 and the Viva s are the same. They can be created in Leica Geo Office (LGO) under Codelist Management or on board the instrument by manual input. You can also copy someone else s codelist files and copy to your code folder on the CF Card. When a codelist is created there will be 3 binary files associated with that codelist as shown below. 3
These files need to be together in the same folder, if these files are not together in the same folder the codelist will NOT work on board the instrument. The correct folder to place these codelist in is the code folder on the CF Card as shown below. The directory paths for the Leica 1200 and the Viva on the CF card are the same. Once this codelist is placed in the correct folder you need to import it on board instrument. This is done by going to User => Tools & Utilities =>Transfer User Objects Then follow the screen shot shown below. 4
Now your ready to use your codelist with your jobs on board the instrument. 5
FORMAT FILES Format files are used to control the format of the data that is sent from the instrument to the computer. A LOT of data is created on the instrument; the format file controls what is sent to the computer, and how it looks. (J:\SURVEY\Leica\1200\Format Files) CRK have created format files that cause the data to look like a 12d field file. The Format Files for the Leica 1200 and the Viva s are the same. They can be created in Leica Geo Office (LGO) under Format Manager ONLY. You can also copy someone else s Format Files and copy to your convert folder on the CF Card. These format files are one file only with the file extension (.frt). The two latest format files for the Leica 1200 and the Viva are highlighted in the image below. Also note the directory path these files are in. 6
7
The format file EXDS_1200_Ellip.FRT is used on the Leica 1200 GPS & Viva GPS (only if an ellipsoidal is wanted by the user) as it exports an ellipsoidal height. This is only relevant for when using GPS. The most commonly uses file is EXDS_1200_ATxtAR.FRT. For any other formats using Ortho Heights on both Leica 1200 GPS & TPS and the Viva GPS & TPS. The file EXDS_1200_AtxtAR.FRT is used as stated above. This will then create a field file in the format govern by the format file. You can also export a simple XYZ file. This is done by using a format file to output a field file, ascii, csv, dat or txt file. Once the format file is placed in your convert folder on your CF Card, you now need to import this file onto your instrument as shown below. User => Tools & Utilities =>Transfer User Objects Then follow the screen shot shown below. 8
REDUCING TO 12D There are a number of ways to reduce your data from the Leica 1200 s & Viva s to 12d. The best way is to use a format file, which will reduce your data into a format dictated, by the format file and this will create a field file (.fld). Use the format file described above This is the same for the Leica 1200 s & Viva s. This is done by export as an ascii file on the instrument as shown below. Jobs and Data > Export and copy data > Export ASCII data 9
Remember to change the file extension to.fld as shown above. Your now ready to import your field file (.fld) into 12d now by using Survey > Create field file 10
Select the field file as shown above. You can also go to the Map File tab and use a Mapfile to apply the correct colours, linestyles and symbols to your survey. 11
The second way to reduce data from the Leica 1200 & Viva s is by using the DBX Converter, which converts your raw DBX files to a field file. This way can be used for everything other than a GPS survey on a dummy coordinate system. The correct coordinate needs to be used, as the coordinates stored in the job will be the coordinates used in 12d. To use the DBX Converter you must first select the Leica 1200 data recorder (Viva s also you this data recorder too). If you don t have the option to select the Leica 1200 data recorder please contact EXDS for an updated survey.4d file. To select the Leica 1200 data recorder and convert the raw DBX files to a field file please follow the steps shown below. Survey => Setup 12
Select the Leica 1200 data recorder from the list as shown below. 13
Then press set then finish. Now once the data collector is set we can convert the DBX files by following the steps shown below. 14
Survey => Convert Raw Now you need to select your DBX file. Remember only the DBX file with the.xcf extension gets used by 12d BUT all the other DBX files associated with that.xcf file MUST be in the same folder as all these files are linked together and will not work otherwise. 15
Use the folder icon on the right of the panel to browse for the location of your DBX files. Once the.xcf file is selected the Field file panel is automatically created with the DBX (.XCF) file name as shown above. Now press Convert and Finish. You can now reduce the data as you normally do using the field file. Survey => Create field file 16
UPLOADING FROM 12D Points Uploading points to the Leica 1200 s and the Viva s are the same. The 1200 s & Viva s has the ability to upload csv files. These files are created in 12d using File I/O => Data Output => xyz general 17
Then select the data source you want to export. Change the Delimiter to a comma and nominate the values you want displayed in each column of the csv file. Then press write. 18
Now copy the newly created csv file from your 12d project job folder onto your CF Card and store in the Data folder. Once the file is on your CF Card you need to import it into the Leica Viva Instrument as shown below. Turn on your Leica Viva instrument and select a new or existing job you wish to import the csv file into. Then go to the Jobs & Data icon as shown below. Then select the Import Data icon as shown below. 19
Then select the Import ASCII Data icon as shown below. 20
Then fill out the panel as shown below. Select the CF Card, the type you want is ACII data. Then select your csv file, and then select your current job you wish to import it too. 21
Now press the Config.. icon where my cursor is in the above image. Fill in the Configuration panel as shown below. This is where you nominate what values you gave to what column in your csv file. These MUST match if you want accurate data to be uploaded to your Viva instrument. 22
Then press OK twice. You should now have a display panel similar to the screen shot below. This is telling you how many points you have just imported into the nominated job on your Viva instruments. If no more points from another file are to be loaded then select the No icon. 23
24
Strings There are a number of ways you can upload strings onto your Leica 1200 & Viva s. One way is to upload a dxf file onto the instrument and set out the strings from the screen. Select the option File I/O => Data Output => DWG/DXF/DXB Then fill out the panel as shown below. Remember to select the file type dxf and type in a file name. 25
Then copy the newly created dxf file from your 12d project to your Data folder on your CF Card. Then insert the CF Card into your instrument and turn the instrument on. Create a new job or open an existing. Then press the Jobs & Data icon so you get a panel displayed like below. Select the icon Import data.. 26
You should now get a display like the image below. Then select the Import DXF data icon. 27
Now as shown below select your CF Card that the dxf file is stored on, then select this file in the From dxf file panel (Highlighted in blue below). Then select the correct job you wish to import the dxf too. Then press OK. 28
You should then have a display of the information imported from the dxf file as shown below. Press NO if you have no more dxf files to import. 29
Now the newly imported dxf file can be displayed in the background showing the strings. These strings can also be select for setout too. You will need to enter your setup station and backsight details before you can use the Stakeout mode to setout. The other way to upload setout strings is to use the option Survey => Leica => Strings As shown below, this creates points and line database for use on the Leica 1200 s & Viva s. This is done by creating a Leica LandXML file and converting to Binary Files (DBX files) used by the instrument. 30
You should then have a display panel like in the image below. Type in a Job Name and press enter. This automatically copies the name you just entered into the LeicaXML file panel as shown below. Having Create database ticked will automatically convert your LeicaXML file into several Binary Files (DBX files) used by the instrument. Select the Leica_LandXML.trans_map this will ensure that the correct transition curve types are exported from 12d to your Leica instrument. Browse for the correct folder you wish to store your newly created DBX files. Also select the correct model or view that the strings are in you wish to export. Then press Write then Finish. 31
Now copy the newly created DBX files onto the DBX folder on your CF Card (Remember to copy EVERY DBX file created). Now insert the CF Card on your instrument and the newly created job should appear on the screen when you go to select a new job. 32
Triangles (T.I.N.) Triangles or also know as a Triangulation Irregular Network (T.I.N.) in 12d is used to provide a surface with know z values (heights). These triangles are used by surfaces to setout a design surface like a road or building pad. To export Triangles (TIN) from 12d to the Leica 120 s0 & Viva s, you use the follow option. Leica => 1200 => Triangles 33
You should now have the panel displayed as shown below. Type in a Job Name and press enter this will then automatically populate the LeicaXML file box. As with the string export have Create database ticked on as this automatically creates the DBX files associated with the Triangles so the instrument can now setout the design levels. Don t forget to select the Tin you wish to export. Then press Write then Finish. Now copy the newly created DBX files onto the DBX folder on your CF Card (Remember to copy EVERY DBX file created). Now insert the CF Card on your instrument and the newly created job should appear on the screen when you go to select a new job 34
Roadrunner Files Roadrunner is Leica s onboard software for the 1200 & Viva for road setout. Inside this software you can setout using strings, cross-sections and DTM s (T.I.N.). This option is found under Survey => Leica => 1200 => Roads This is used to create Leica DBX files used by the Roadrunner software. You should now have a panel displayed as shown below. 35
As shown above type in a Job Name and press enter this will automatically populate this name to the File name box. Again have the create database option ticked as this will automatically create the Roadrunner DBX files in the path nominated in the Folder for DBXs box. If Put all stringlines in a layer is ticked then you have two options under the Simple and Advanced tab. Here you can nominate a layer name in the corresponding boxes. As above this panel is set to open with the Simple tab as default. Here you can select your Alignment string (Centreline). You can also include the Alignment string in the layer by ticking the box. Select the Stringlines model where all your Design Strings are stored in. Under the Layer name box you can nominate a specific name you wish to call the layer. If left blank it will use the 12d model name of your stringline model. 36
The Advanced Tab is used when you have several stringline models. An example of this is a Road with the finished surface and all its different Boxing layers. Or several different roads in the one job. Then press Write then Finish. Now copy the newly created DBX files onto the DBX folder on your CF Card (Remember to copy EVERY DBX file created). Now insert the CF Card on your instrument and the newly created job should appear on the screen when you go to select a new job 37
