1 Valley Performing Arts Center Cal State Northridge Northridge, CA CSUN's new Valley Performing Arts Center is rapidly becoming one of the top three destinations in Southern California for symphony, opera, pops and Broadway performances. The venue comprises a multipurpose, variable acoustics, professional performance hall serving everything from cinema to Tchaikovsky, a black box theatre, a 230 seat lecture room as well as lab, rehearsal, recording and their requisite support spaces. It is also houses nationally-recognized KCSN-FM. MCH provided full-scope acoustical and AV systems design seat variable acoustics hall (cinema & lecture to symphonic) 175-seat Black Box Theater, Rehearsal spaces, etc. KCSN-FM Radio Station $125M for 166,000sf Architect: HGA Opened: January 2011 "The acoustical design is attractively intimate in its clarity. In an all-purpose hall, this is an admirable accomplishment. The bass is terrific and every cello pizzicato had just the right presence. The lower middlerange instruments, usually hard to hear, displayed a fine presence. The violas, so interestingly used by Berlioz but rarely heard, made themselves wonderfully known." - Mark Swed, Los Angeles Times Music Critic Granada Theatre Restoration Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts Santa Barbara, CA MCH helped renovate this Historic Theatre as an anchoring component of Santa Barbara s theater district. The Granada serves as a year-round venue for theater, dance, orchestra, recitals, opera and musicals. Of prime importance is its role as the new home of the Santa Barbara Symphony. Work included full re-do of interior shaping, noise control design for new HVAC and exterior noise control in an urban environment, computer modeling, design of a custom orchestra shell, variable acoustics and full audio and & video recording and projection systems. Acoustics, appearance, sightlines and theatrical function were improved greatly and Royce became a celebrated venue with symphonic acoustics among the best in the world. While Andre Previn conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic, it was the only venue in which he would record his orchestra. The 1994 Northridge earthquake stimulated making the hall better yet for both symphony and speech via variable acoustics. Royce reopened in May 1998 with all design goals accomplished. 5 Granoff Music Center Tufts University Medford, MA The Granoff Music Center opened in February 2007 to an extremely enthusiastic faculty and student body as the new home of the entire Music Department at Tufts University. The centerpiece is The Distler Performance Hall, designed for luxuriant and enveloping reverberation for natural unamplified music, without any interruption from extraneous or audible background noise. It is acclaimed for both performance and recording. Performers and audiences celebrate the unique thrill of great sound without any need for electronic enhancement or reinforcement. The Hall works beautifully for unamplified poetry readings from stage, full orchestra and everything between. Popejoy is now among the finest halls of its size. Keller Recital Hall, hosting 150 concerts annually, including the Composers Symposium, a week of concerts and lectures by national and international composers was modified to extend its reverberation time range. In 2007, UNM retained MCH again to assist in selecting all new seating for the venue, to ensure that its fine acoustical signature would be retained. 1,985 seats, adding variable acoustics 330 seats renovated variable acoustics Architect: BOORA Virtual Tour of Popejoy Hall Completion: 1996 (1 st ) and 2007 (2 nd )
