It will do this in an easy-to-use, engaging format. Global UI Screens The triggers are used as global interactors; the left trigger moves back a screen/interaction mode, while the right trigger moves forward a screen/interaction mode. In modal screens (the screens listed in this section), the triggers have no effect.
Menu System The Menu System features fairly standard options, and can be invoked at any time by pressing the [start] button. The selection is changed with the D-Pad or Analog Stick, and any button can be used to make a choice. Confirmation dialogs require the player to press any button which is not the button they originally pressed to make a selection. The original button cancels the confirmation. New Game (available anytime): After a confirmation, abandons any game in progress and begins a new game. Transition to the Game Setup screen. Load Game (available if any games are saved): Presents a confirmation if a game is in progress. Abandons any game in progress and loads a saved game. Save Game (available if a game is in progress): Presents a list of saved game slots. If a slot is selected which already contains a game, a confirmation is presented. Return (available if a game is in progress): Returns to the currently-active game. Automatically chosen if [start] is pressed from the Menu System. Transaction Limit: Presents a text field which shows how many rounds a player-to-player transaction may take. Moving the D-Pad or Analog Stick horizontally changes the number; '0' means no limit.
Auction Limit: Presents a text field which shows how many rounds an auction may last. Moving the D -Pad or Analog Stick horizontally increases or decreases the number; '0' means no limit. Game Setup Screen The Game Setup Screen is used to initialize a new game. It primarily features a list of all 8 possible player tokens. The selection may be changed with the D-Pad or Analog Stick. The [square] button assigns a token to the AI, the [triangle] button assigns a player to hot-seat control, and the [circle] button removes the token from the game. At least four tokens must be assigned to play; the [circle] button will not work if only four tokens are assigned. The [right trigger] button is used to continue to the next phase. The [left trigger] button is used to return to the main menu.
The second phase of Game Setup is turn order. The assigned player tokens are arranged in a horizontal list. The AI players are given random turn orders; the human hot-seat players may choose an order for their turns. As with other screens, the D-Pad and Analog Stick may be used to move from human player to human player. Pressing any button will 'pick up' that player, and pressing it again on any empty or human-occupied turn order will swap the picked up player with the selected player. In addition, the players' starting cash reserve is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Moving the selection vertically selects or de-selects it; moving the selection horizontally while it is selected will increase or decrease the amount, in increments of $100. Pressing the [right trigger] button will start the game, first going through a Player Turn screen and then moving on to the Board Interactions screen in the first turn of the game. Pressing the [left trigger] button will go back to the first phase. Transaction Screen The Transaction Screen is used to arbitrate a sale directly between two players. The asset in question is featured in the middle of the screen, with arrows indicating the asset is moving from the original owner (left side of screen) to the potential owner (right side of screen). The current offer from each player is listed under their iden tifier on the first round, the potential owner has no amount listed. If the transaction limits option is set, the number of remaining transaction rounds is displayed at the bottom center of the screen, with a progress bar. The D-Pad or Analog Stick can be used to decrease or increase the amount, and the [square] button can be used to make the offer. The PSP is then passed to the other player, who may use [triangle] to accept, or modify the amount and use [square] to counter-offer. If a counter-offer is the same amount as the original offer, this counts as acceptance. [x] may be used to abort the transaction at any time. The player who is currently making an offer has these controls appended to their side of the display. If transaction limits is being used, the last transaction only allows the original owner to set a price, and the potential owner must accept or abort.
If the asset is mortgaged, a special indicator will show on the asset s image. In this case, the potential owner will pay interest on the mortgage (%10 of the asset s mortgage value). This is included in the offer number. Because the Transaction Screen is modal and allows for multiple players, upon exiting the game goes through the Player Turn screen before resuming play. Auction Screen The auction screen is used to arbitrate a sale between all players at once. The player identifiers are listed on the left half of the screen. The asset up for auction is displayed prominently on the right, with the bid increase amount listed above it. Beneath it is the current value of the auction, and beneath that is the auction turn counter and progress bar (if the matching option is set). The active player has a red border; the players who have yet to go this auction round have blue borders; the players who have gone have no special border. The player who is currently winning the auction is indicated with a gold icon. The players are listed in standard turn order, with the player on whose turn the auction started listed first.
On each player s turn in the auction round, they have the opportunity to increase the bid [square], pass on bidding [triangle], or drop from the auction ([x], and [x] again to confirm). A player who drops is removed from the list of players in the auction round. A player may also change the bid increase amount using the D-Pad or Analog Stick. If an entire auction round passes with no change in auction price, or the auction round limit is reached, the player with the highest bid wins the auction. If the asset is mortgaged, a special indicator will show on the asset s image. In this case, the potential owner will pay interest on the mortgage (%10 of the asset s mortgage value). This is included in the offer number. Because the Auction Screen is modal and allows for multiple players, upon exiting the game goes through the Player Turn screen before resuming play. Player Turn Screen The Player Turn screen exists to protect information on a player s assets when in hotseat mode. It is a black screen which presents the player s name and identifier, with a prompt to confirm continuation. The game does not progress until one of the buttons ([x], [triangle], [circle], or [square]) is pressed.
Player Interactions The Player Interactions screen allows you to interact directly with other players. The player interaction screen will feature a list of the other players any buttons pressed will apply to the selected player. Either the D-Pad or the Analog Stick may be used to navigate the player list. Sell Out of Jail card [circle]: If you currently have one or both Get Out of Jail Free cards, you may offer to sell one to another player. The price is initially set at $49; the Transaction Screen is used to arbitrate (as described above). Sell Unimproved Property [square]: The player is presented the Asset Interaction screen to choose a property. Both normal interactions ([square] for mortgage, [circle] for improvement) are replaced by a choose option. The filter is automatically set to unimproved, as these are the only properties available for sale. Once a property is chosen, the price is set to the property s list price and the Transaction Screen is used to arbitrate. Request Assets [triangle]: The player is presented another player s Asset Interaction screen to choose a property; the filter is automatically set to unimproved. Once a property is chosen, the price is set to the property s list price and the Transaction Screen is used to arbitrate.
Board Interaction The Board Interaction screen allows you to interact with the board, and see your position in relation to other spaces and players. It is the only screen required for a turn, since you must roll the dice on every turn. The screen presents the spaces nearest the player. Near the top is an indicator of how many doubles have been rolled this turn. In the top center is the current player s identifier and cash reserve. The player may use the D-Pad or Analog Stick to view other parts of the board; pressing the [circle] will return the view to the player s own position. Rolling the dice also causes the view to re-center.
If the dice have not been rolled, pressing [triangle] or [square] will roll them. Holding it down for up to 3 seconds will rattle the dice cup before rolling. Once they have been rolled, the results appear in the top right of the screen. If doubles were not rolled, pressing [x] will end the player s turn; if they have, it will reroll the dice and begin a new turn for the same player. While rolling the dice is required for each turn, the player may take any number of actions both before and after rolling. Several results of moving cause the player to owe money. This money is taken from cash reserves first; if cash reserves are not adequate, a warning is displayed and the player s negative cash reserves show in red with extra emphasis added. If a player ends their turn with negative cash reserves, they are removed from the game. All assets pass to the player to whom the money is owed. If this is the ba nk, all assets return to the bank and are auctioned immediately. If events cause a player to start their turn with a negative cash reserve (such as a card which causes them to pay another player), they must resolve this before they can roll. Roll Dice [triangle] or [square]: The dice tumble from the corner of the screen to the middle. They are then moved to the top right. If the player is rattling the cup, the cup is shown gyrating. Buy Property: If a player ends their movement on a property, they may buy i t using the [square] button. Otherwise, they may pass by pressing [triangle] in this case, the property is immediately auctioned, and the rolling player may participate in the auction. Pay Income/Luxury Tax: When a player ends their movement on a tax s quare, the appropriate amount is taken from their cash reserves. If it was the Income Tax space, they may choose to pay the flat $200 with [triangle], or the percentage of assets with [square]. The dollar amount of the percentage is not shown until after the button is pressed. Move Token: After the dice are rolled, the player s token is moved accordingly. Draw Card: If the player ends their turn on a draw card space, a card is randomly chosen from the appropriate deck. The drawn card may not be the previously-drawn card from that deck, and it may not
be the Get Out of Jail Free card for that deck if this card is an asset in someone s hand. Pass Go: If the player s token touches Go during their movement, they collect $200. A player does not pass Go on the way to jail; all other non-dice movement may pass Go. Go To Jail: If the player ends their turn on Go To Jail, that player goes to jail. A player does not pass Go on the way to jail. Pay Rent: If the player lands on a player-owned property, they pay the amount requested to the other player. Jail Interaction When in jail, the Jail Interaction screen replaces the Board Interaction screen. This screen still lists the current player s cash reserves, and allows full use of the Player Interactions and Asset Interaction screens. As with the Board Interaction screen, if the player begins their turn with a negative cash reserve, they must resolve this before rolling. The top right of the screen displays how many chances to roll the player has left. If they have no chances left, they must choose one of the other options to end their turn (which may put them in a negative cash reserve they must also resolve this before continuing). Roll for doubles [square] or [triangle]: Roll the dice in an attempt to hit doubles and get out for free. The result is stored in the upper right corner of the screen; the button may be held down to rattle the cup. Play Get out of jail free card [circle]: If the player has this card, they may use it. Any dice rolled on the same turn become movement dice instead of attempt dice. Pay $50 [x]: This option is only available if the player has not rolled the dice. If the player has rolled and failed on doubles three turns in a row, this option becomes available after the roll, and the dice become movement dice instead of attempt dice.
Asset Interaction The Asset Interaction screen allows a player to manage the properties they own. The properties are displayed in a vertical list of color groups, with individual properties in each group listed horizontally. The D-Pad and Analog Stick may be used to navigate this list. The list may also be filtered using the [triangle] button to cycle through the following filters: All Properties, Unimproved Properties Only, Mortgaged Properties Only, Full Color Groups Only. When a property is selected, the player may press [circle] to see the full property card. The player s cash reserve is displayed in the top left. Actions on this screen may not place the player in a negative cash reserve. Mortgage Property [x]: If the currently-selected property is not mortgaged and no properties in the same color group have improvements, the player may mortgage the property. Pay Off Mortgage [x]: If the currently-selected property is mortgaged, and the player has enough in cash reserves, they may pay off the mortgage (original mortgage amount + 10%). Improve Color Group [square]: If no properties in the current color group are mortgaged, and the player owns the full color group, and the player has enough in cash reserves, the player may add an improvement to the color group. The player may select one of the properties and press [square] to add an improvement, or [x] to sell one. If there is only one house or hotel left to build, it is auctioned rather than sold directly. Plan of Attack The core gameplay screens Player/Board/Asset are the most important, along with hotseat functionality. Then come mortgages, monopolies, and improvements actions which change the rent value or state of a property. Next up is implementing player interactions Transactions and Auctions which interrupt normal turn order. After that is implementing all the cards, with particular attention to Get Out of Jail cards. The In Jail state is next, followed by the menu system and Game Setup screens. Finally, at least a basic AI will be implemented.
