It is understood that under no circumstances shall West Calgary Dressage Show, Cochrane Agricultural Center, nor the owners, management, Tournament committee, not any of its staff or agents be liable for any loss, damages, claims or costs as a result of West Calgary Dressage Show, Cochrane Agricultural Center, nor the owners, management, tournament committee, not any of its staff or agents, negligence, and that you agree to indemnify and save harmless West Calgary Dressage Show, Cochrane Agricultural Center, nor the owners, management committee, not any of its staff or agents from and against any and all liability arising out of any such loss, damages, claims or costs. Prizes Prizes will be awarded for top three riders in each class or according to EC rules. Rules and Regulations The management committee reserves the right to decide any point not covered in the rules and to correct any errors or make alterations that may be necessary in the prize list. The management committee reserves the right to remove any groom, trainer, owner, manager, or rider from the tournament without compensation. Any acts of discourtesy, or disobedience to the judges or officials by the owner, rider, manager, trainer or groom shall disqualify them from further competition in the tournament and the owner shall forfeit all fees. Inhumane treatment of a horse will not be tolerated. Violation of this rule will result in immediate disqualification, and forfeiture of the fees. In the case of disqualification, the horse winning the succeeding prize shall receive the prize of the disqualified horse and the other prizes will be adjusted accordingly. Ride times will be posted online 2 days prior to the competition date. Anyone exhibiting dangerous or unsportsmanlike behavior may, at the discretion of the tournament committee, be expelled from the grounds and forfeit fees.
2 Entry Procedure: Entries must be in the hands of the show secretary by the closing date listed on entry forms. Entry forms must be accompanied by a check, or money order to cover all entry fees, stabling fees and any other applicable fees. N.S.F. checks will result in an additional $40 service fee. Competitors are responsible for their own errors or those of their agents in preparation of their entry forms. Juniors must have a parent or guardian sign their entry form. Entries received after the closing date will be subject to a $30 late fee. Any changes made to entries after closing date will be charged a $15 penalty. Penalties are charged at the discretion of the organizing committee. West Calgary Dressage Show, and management reserves the right to limit entries in any division and to refuse or decline any entry without being liable for compensation or damages. PLEASE CHECK THE ENTRY FORMS FOR THE CLOSING DATES Refunds Exhibitors cancelling their entries before the closing date will be issued a refund in full. After the closing date of entries but prior to the start of the tournament, shall, upon presentation of a valid veterinarian certificate, forfeit their stall and office fees, all other fees will be refunded. Non-veterinarian scratches will not be refunded after the closing date. Dress A dark coloured or grey jacket (tailcoats not permitted). Contrasting pin stripes and piping are allowed. ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved protective headgear. White or light coloured breeches (juniors are permitted to wear jodhpurs and jodhpur boots), tie, hunting stock or choker. Gloves are required. Dark coloured riding boots (plain, laced or with zippers). Spurs are optional (see article E 4.1.8) Riders with long hair must be secured with a hair net or tied back in a braid or a bun. Manes may be braided but is not a requirement. Saddlery & Equipment All bridles must be correctly fitted black or brown in colour. Bitless bridles are not permitted. Double bridles are optional at third level. (See article E 4.3 for permissible bits). Management The management reserves the right to limit entries in any division and to refuse or decline any entry without being liable for compensation or damages. Ties for championships will be decided by collective marks. Please Note All riders, regardless of age or level or competition, must wear ASTM/SEI or SBI/BS EN approved protective headgear at all times when mounted at any EC-sanctioned Dressage competition at the event location It is the exhibitors responsibility to provide their own readers for their tests if they are needed. Warm up There is a warm up arena available starting at 8:30 am prior to the start of the competition.
3 EQUINE CANADA STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE EQUINE Canada (EC), the National Equestrian Federation of Canada supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all competition under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to: Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration In all activities: Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect, and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owner s, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses place in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competitions; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competitions. Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a reasonable person, informed an experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive, nor inhumane.
4 Directions COCHRANE & DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY (CDAS) The Cochrane Ag Grounds are located about 20 minutes northwest of Calgary in the Town of Cochrane. The grounds are located on the northwest corner of the junction of Hwy's 22 & 1A. The entrance to the South grounds is located on Hwy 1A - first exit on the right after the highway junction. COCHRANE & DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY (CDAS) PCDAS PARK RULES & POLICIES All competitors must sign a Cochrane & District Agricultural Society Release & Acknowledgement Form when they arrive on the grounds before the horse is unloaded on the grounds. INDOOR & OUTDOOR ARENA RULES & POLICIES: 1. NO horses through man doors. 2. NO SMOKING in the indoor arena. 3. Water provided in storage tanks is potable. It is intended as drinking water for horses and people. It is not to be used for washing horses. No wash bay facilities are currently available. 4. CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR HORSE. This includes arenas, alleyways, stalls & parking areas. Make an attempt to clean up manure droppings in the arenas as they occur as safely as possible. DUMP THE MANURE WAGONS in the appropriate dumping bins. 5. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. Sweep floors, pick up trash and place in proper containers. Keep arena, alleyways & parking areas tidy. 6. Do not clean out you trailer in the parking lot. BARN & STABLING RULES & POLICIES: 1. NO SMOKING in or around barn stabling areas. 2. Only use necessary lights. Turn on lights only in your area. Turn off all lights when you leave. 3. DO NOT TOUCH BREAKER PANEL BOX. 4. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF & YOUR HORSE. This includes alleyways, stalls & parking areas. DUMP THE MANURE WAGONS in the appropriate bins. Do not throw your manure up on the hillsides or in ditches. Pick up trash and place in proper containers. Keep alleyways & parking areas tidy. 5. Do not clean out your trailer in the parking lot. 6. Do not stable or feed your horse(s) in any of the arenas or alleyways. Use stalls only. 7. Water provided in storage tanks is potable. 5 CLASS DESCRIPTION TRAINING LEVEL: To confirm that the horses muscles are supple and loose, and the it moves freely forward in clear and steady rhythm, accepting contact with the bit. FIRST LEVEL: To confirm that the horse in addition to the requirements of the Training Level, has developed thrust (pushing power) and achieved a degree of balance and throughness. SECOND LEVEL: To confirm that the horse, having demonstrated that it had achieved the thrust (pushing power) required in the First Level, now shows that through additional training it accepts more weight on the hind quarters (collection), shows the thrust requited at the medium gaits and is reliably on the bit. A greater degree of straightness, bending, suppleness, thoroughness, balance and self carriage is required than at First Level. THIRD LEVEL: To confirm that the horse has achieved the requirements of the Second Level. It now demonstrates in each movement, especially in movements, rhythm, suppleness, acceptance of the bit, thoroughness impulsion, straightness and collection. There must be a clear distinction between the paces. FOURTH LEVEL: To confirm that the horse has developed sufficient suppleness, impulsion and throughness to perform the fourth level test which have a medium degree of difficulty. The horse must remain reliably on the bit, showing a clear uphill balance and lightness. The movements are preformed with greater engagement, straightness, energy and cadence and the hind limbs carry more weight than at third level. PRIX ST. GEORGE This test represents the medium stage of training. It comprises exercises to show the horse s submission to all the demands of the execution of classical equitation and a standard of physical and mental balance and development which will enable him to carry them out with harmony, lightness and ease. ** If a Reader is needed Competitors MUST provide their own ** Tests are available on the Equine Canada Website Wherever possible we will put barn groups together for their classes. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event. We are helping support the local pony club and in that effort you may donate your stall clean out fee of $25.00 and have the pony club do the cleaning for you. Saturday Supper with the Judge We are planning a supper with the judge on Saturday evening so you can ask questions, get something clarified or just visit. All you need is your drink. Please indicate you would like to join us by submitting your payment and indicating your intention on the entry form. Hope to see you all there.
