14 Main conclusions-i Future research in the networked audio-visual field will be largely influenced by two major trends in media creation and consumption: The shift towards a user centric media creation and consumption environment, and The proliferation and omnipresence of content of various types, sources and qualities. The user as consumer, producer, manager of content and communication is central to all future developments in the area, since users want: to create, manage and share their own media; to socialise through the media, and to interact with content.
15 Main conclusions-ii The emphasis of research will thus be on user created media, on unstructured distribution/delivery/storage of media and on variable distribution patterns between multiple users; This vision of user centric media and the new paradigm for audio-visual content models is supported by major technological, standardisation and business changes in the area: convergence of media and communications, especially in the home network, and the nomadicity of the user and the content; The development of the home media environment plays a central role as preferential area of convergence for media and communications, being by nature centred on the user and his community, and forming an essential part or even the main starting point for the living audio-visual content.
16 Challenges of Future Search Engines Consultation Workshop September 15th, 2005 Presentations: s150905_2.htm Report: ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/ist/docs/ka4/au_ws150905_rep ort_en.pdf
