2 Introduction This document describes how to install the 3Shape Dental System software as a Client-Server setup. Both the server (Installing the Server PC) - and the client (Installing the Client pc (s)) installation will be described. February 10, 2010 Traditionally a 3shape system is configured from the factory as a standalone system meaning that everything is contained within the PC and the USB connected scanner. This works great for the majority of installations but is not a flexible approach when expanding the system to multiple Design stations. When expanding is it desirable to switch to a client/server installation. It enables you to have a scalable system where you can easily add more Dental Design stations as your needs grow. Basically you want to go from this:

3 To this: One of the benefits is that it is very easy to add new design stations but also that all design stations share the same scanner repository on the server and the material files and settings are also located on the server. When configuring a client/server installation the installation procedure is done in steps: 1) First you install the server on the PC where the Scanner is connected to. 2) Secondly you install the client side on each additional PC in the network. two Luckily it s the same 3Shape installation packages which are used on both the server and the client side.

4 Installing the Server pc The first thing that needs to be done is to install the Dental System server software on the pc dedicated to this purpose. Before running the installation it is required that Windows is configured and setup to run on your network. February 10, 2010 To install the Dental System server software simply run the 3Shape Dental System Installer and click Dental System Server Install (note that you should always run the installation software on the pc dedicated as the server): 1. If the dongle is going to be used from the server pc make sure that it is inserted before running the installation. 2. Start the installation by double-clicking the Dental System Installer executable: Note that version above is just an example. The Dental System installation software can be downloaded from 3Shape Support homepage. 3. Click Yes to start the installation: 4. The installation software will be extracted which may take some time: 5. Click Dental System Server Install (make sure that Grant full access for all users to the Control Panel folder is selected):

5 6. If you are running the server installation software on the server pc you would usually just use the default settings and click Continue. However, if the dongle and/or the database are located on another pc you must specify this. February 10, 2010

6 7. Installation and upgrade of the dongle system will be performed: 8. The installation process will now start and may take several minutes: 9. Files for use with the Microsoft SQL server installation will be extracted:

8 13. When the Microsoft SQL Server has been installed focus will be directed to the main installation window. Click Finish : February 10, 2010 Installing the Client pc(s) Having setup the Server pc, the next step is to install the Dental System client software on the client pc(s). You must perform the installation procedure described below on all PCs that are supposed to connect to the server pc. To install the Dental System client software simply run the 3Shape Dental System Installer and click Dental System Network Client (note that you should always run the installation locally on the pc you would like to setup as a Client): 1. Start the installation by double-clicking the Dental System Installer executable: Note that version above is just an example. The Dental System installation software can be downloaded from 3Shape Support homepage.

9 2. Click Yes to start the installation: 3. The installation software will be extracted which may take some time: 4. Click Continue after having chosen your installation language: 5. Click Dental System Network Client :

10 6. Define the network location of the Server PC (where the Dental System server installation was made, see above under Installing the Server pc ). This can be done be either manually writing it, e.g. \\PC172\ or by browsing for the server: February 10, Click Finish to complete the Client installation. Desktop links will be made on the client PC pointing to the applications on the server: 8. Repeat step 1-7 on all PCs you would like to setup as clients.

11 Troubleshooting Please try following steps if the installation of the Dental System client fails when clicking Finish (see step 7 under Installing the Client pc(s) ): o Ensure that the server and the client PCs are both in the same workgroup o If a form is shown requesting a password (see Figure 1) ensure that the Use simple file sharing option is enabled (see Figure 2) on the server:

12 When processing an order on a client installation you may see following message (TEXT: The order file for the order <order number> could not be written): February 10, 2010 Insufficient user rights for the 3Shape order folder on the server pc most likely cause this problem. Please follow the steps below to correct this: o Right click the C:\3Shape folder on the Server pc and choose Properties o Choose the Security tab o Highlight Users and make sure that necessary rights have been permitted (see picture below): o Click OK to apply changes.

13 Troubleshooting TCP Ports: If a firewall is active on any of the machines, it s important that you allow communication to and from the 3shape dongle on TCP port number (default value). If not you will see that the client side is hanging when starting up saying something like Connecting to Dongle service or it will simply terminate with an access violation. Also several other TCP ports need to be enabled in the same way. These ports are for the SQL server and include the following TCP ports: o Port 1066 o Port 1433 o Port 1434 o Port 1666 Programs: sqlbrowser.exe, sqlservr.exe
