2 Fresno State Spirit Program MANDATORY DATES: The following dates are mandatory summer events for the Spirit Team Members. These dates are tentative, but encompasses a time frame that the team will have will have events. In the event that you make the team you are asked to ensure you do not schedule vacations, etc. during this time frame. All team members MUST be present in order to be a part of the program. June 4 th : 9:00 am 2:00 pm North Gym 1 st Team meeting, practice, uniform fitting July 20-22nd: Dance Camp (Optional) USA/NDA camp in Las Vegas Dance members must provide registration fee and transportation to and from camp August 1 st -12 th : Team Practices South Gym Team (cheer and dance) practices every Mon, Wed, Fri 6:00 AM-8:00 AM Those individuals traveling and living in the dorms will need to request early move in date or make arrangements to stay with team members. August 8 th -13 th : Dance Team Band Camp Dance members will practice with the band this week (on campus) August 15 th -19 th : Team Practices Team (cheer and dance) practices every Mon, Wed, Fri in the afternoon Those individuals traveling and living in the dorms will need to request early move in date or make arrangements to stay with team members. 7 F R E S N O S T A T E Spirit Program Fresno State Dance Summer Camp Survey Name The answers that you provide on this sheet will have no effect on the results of your audition. They will be used to process camp information for the summer of 2016 once the team has been selected. Last year, individuals from the Fresno State dance team traveled to Las Vegas to attend USA/NDA College/Pro dance camp. This camp not only provided material for us to perform at games, it also allowed members to build unity before the season began, jump-starting a very successful year for us. Camp expenses are paid out of pocket by team members, so attendance is not mandatory, but STRONGLY SUGGESTED. For summer 2016, travel will not be provided by the university. Dance members are allowed to get to camp as they see fit. We can set up carpools for those members wishing to car pool to and from camp (highly recommended) and this sheet will be used to help set up those carpools. Dates: July 20 (Begins at 2:00pm) July 22 (Finishes by 1:00pm) Price of camp: Estimated price $305 per person. This includes camp, food during camp, and hotel stay for the nights of the 20 and 21. As you see from the dates, you will be able to drive up the day of July 20 and make it on time, and you will be able to leave on July 22 and make it home not too late, so an additional night s stay is not mandatory (the drive to Vegas takes approximately 6 hours). If you wish to go before July 20 or stay after July 22, please do not mark that you wish to carpool. Please keep in mind that if we do not have any drivers in a carpool that carpooling will not be possible. If you are riding in a carpool, you are expected to split the gas with the other passengers. The drivers should be paying for little if no gas, due to the wear and tear on their vehicles. Based upon the above dates and prices, are you available to go to dance camp? 8 Video Tryouts ONLY Must be received by: May 2 nd, 2016 \ *Videos that arrive past due will be accepted at the discreation of the Head Coach If you are unable to be at the in-person tryouts, please follow this order for your video. There is definitely an advantage to trying out in person 1. General Information Name, home address, phone number, address and the name of the high school or college you currenlty attend. (This can be stated verbally on the video.) You should have this information on your DVD cover along with a picture of yourself. 2. Personal Interview Talk about your background and explain briefly why you would like to cheer at Fresno State. 3. Cheer and Dance applicants Perform a cheer of your choice. You may use one of yours and it should pertain to Fresno State. We will be looking at motion placement, sharpness, and presentation (energy and confidence.) We should be able to picture you in front of a crowd actually getting people to yell with you. 4. Tumbling: Cheer ONLY Minimum Requirement: Standing back hand spring please show on a regular floor (gym floor/grass) Any other standing tumbling such as multiple back hand springs witout stopping, standing back tuck Running Tumbling please show the highest difficulty you can throw a regular floor 5. Stunts: Cheer ONLY Show your best stunts. We are looking for variety, technique, and cleanliness. 6. Dance: Cheer and Dance applicants Perform an individual dance routine of your choice. Approx. 45 secs Dance applicants only: Your choice of dance should include all skills listed from page 1 of applcation; see Dance Requirments 7. Jumps Cheer only. Leaps Dance only Required Jump is Toe Touch. You may also include other jumps to show your strengths Required: Leaps and Switch Leaps. You may also include other skills to show your strengths 8.
