This guide provides information on the ridesharing services available through Jack Bell Ride-Share. Please distribute any of the following information to better inform and promote ridesharing at your workplace. Contents Ridesharing services available through Jack Bell... 1 Employer Benefits... 2 Ride-Share Coordinator s role (administrative access)... 3 Company Ride-Share Websites... 4 Intranet and Newsletter Communications... 5 Supporting Initiatives
Ridesharing Services Jack Bell Ride-Share provides a variety of ridesharing services through A free online ridematching website connects commuters with one of the three listed services to find them the most suitable and convenient ridematch for them. Regular vanpools require at least seven riders to commute together five days a week on a set schedule in a van owned, insured, and maintained by Jack Bell Ride-Share. Each vanpool rider pays a monthly fee to cover the cost of the vehicle. Vanpool riders pay an average of $1100 a year for a typical daily commute of 60km/day. Call us for more information at RIDE. Casual ridesharing is considered more flexible and allows commuters to ride-share just one, or more times a week. A driver can offer space in their car or a passenger can choose to find a seat in someone else s vehicle for up to five different journeys each week. Costs are negotiated between driver and passengers. Company Ride-Share Websites are located on the drop down menu of This free feature offers exclusive ridematching services to employees within their company. By logging into your own branded Jack Bell Ride- Share Company Website employees have the security and assurance of locating ridematches with fellow employees. Please contact: customercare@ride-share.com to set up a free Company Ride-Share Website. 1
Employer benefits from Jack Bell Ride-Share Reduced Need for Parking Many employers offer rideshare incentive programs to reduce parking demand. Ridesharing helps people get to work sharing a car, especially in areas when employees come from areas where transit is limited. Employers can save a substantial amount of money by reducing the number of parking spaces required. Increased Productivity and Morale Employees who rideshare have less commute-related stress, and improved morale and productivity. In regions with HOV lanes rideshare users can avoid freeway line-ups and congestion. Delays and the congestion-induced unpredictability interfere with communitng schedules. Sustainability Jack Bell s free ridematching services offer employees a sustainable transportation option. Ridesharing can reduce an employee s overall commuting carbon footprint. Employers can measure their employee s ridesharing activities and emissions. 2
Role of the Ride-Share Workplace Coordinator A dedicated Ride-Share Coordinator should be appointed to ensure ridesharing is promoted within the workplace. Responsibilities include: Signing their company up for a Ride-Share Company Website. A Subscription Agreement will be included in this toolkit. Promoting ridesharing within the office using various marketing materials: - Printed posters - Jack Bell Ride-Share rack cards - Jack Bell Ride-Share stands - Lunch & Learns Using communications provided in this toolkit under section 5 on company intranets and in newsletters. Downloadable posters and rack cards available at: Reviewing ridesharing stats using the administrator function on to report to your management on company ridesharing participation and emissions-saved. Encouraging additional supportive programs within the workplace located in section 6. Providing feedback and new ideas to encourage ridesharing. 3
Company Branded Ride-Share Websites Sign up your organization for a free company ride-share website by contacting companycare@ride-share.com The ride-share company websites are individual employer-branded subgroups located on a drop down menu on the front page of All employees with a company address can sign themselves up to their specific employer Company Ride-Share Website. This method allows employees to sign up on their own time and with little help from administration. By adding this free tool your employees gain a sustainable transportation option while your company can improve its triple bottom line. After signing a Subscription Agreement, your Company Ride-Share Website will be set up within a week, including your Administrator access. Contact Jack Bell Ride-Share about our Company Ride-Share Prize Package which can be used to encourage employees to participate in your company s ridesharing program. 4
Intranet Communications & Newsletter Communications Here are a variety of different communications which can be used on company intranets and in newsletters. Benefits of Ridesharing Whether you already own a car and drive to work, or would like to find a ride to work, the benefits of ridesharing are numerous and immediate: TIME Take advantage of HOV lanes for a faster commute SAVE MONEY Share the costs of gas (and parking); everyone saves money. SUSTAINABILITY Driving to work with empty seats in your vehicle is energy inefficient. Ridesharing takes cars off the roads, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Each member of the ride-share is responsible for only a portion of one vehicle s emissions versus one entire car s worth of CO2. DE-STRESS Reduce the stress of driving to work and dealing with rush hour traffic by sharing the driving - enjoy the drive to work, catch up on some reading or have a good conversation in your ride-share. COMMUNITY Create community and connectedness with those you travel with. Enjoy each others company, maybe even make new friends Road rage, Schmoad rage. Employees a little stressed in the morning? Think rideshare. A gift to your employees. A gift to yourself... increased productivity.. reduced parking expenses.... employee retention happy employees. Rideshare. You benefit. They benefit. Everyone wins. Tuesday my car/ Thursday your car Ridesharing doesn t have to be everyday. Tell staff to try it for only two days a week. Ridesharing is a Simple Solution. Nobody says you have to rideshare every day. Do what you can, when you can. Check out 5
Intranet Communications & Newsletter Communications Here are a variety of different communications which can be used on company intranets and in newsletters. Save a lot of money Did you know that the average cost of running a vehicle per year is $10,000? By splitting vehicle costs ridesharing, you can save thousands of dollars every year! Start saving at Rideshare. It s cool! Looking for some extra vacation time? Why not try the HOV lane? On average ridesharing in the HOV lane can shave 10 minutes off your one-way commute. This time saved adds up to 80 HOURS a year not spent in traffic. What are the six clever ways to help pay for a new home? 1. Use a hair net instead of expensive hair spray. 2. Sell one kidney. 3. Cut empty toilet paper rolls into napkin rings. 4. Scour theater rows for popcorn boxes before a movie. 5. Have a plastic flamingo for a pet 6. The way the boss sees it: Increased employee productivity. Expanded employee base. Employee retention. Reduced parking expenses. Happy employees. The way the employee sees it: A little more sleep. A lot less stress. Cheaper than gas money. Happy bosses. The way we see it: Ridesharing is cool. And it makes everyone happy. Just login at 6
Ridesharing Initiatives Guaranteed Ride-Home Program (GRH) A GRH program provides employees with a free ride home in the case of an emergency as defined by the employer. GRH programs act as a safety net for employees to use sustainable transportation. Generally the GRH program is implemented and designed by the employer. An example GRH policy template is available on: Preferred Parking Save costs on reducing the need for parking stalls by installing preferred parking stalls. Preferred parking spaces, as close as possible to the driver s building, are designated for ride-shares and vanpools. A Ride-Share parking permit is issued allowing a ride-share group to park in a space designated Ride-Share Parking. Ride-Share spaces are only to be used on the days that you Ride-Share. The Company Car Need your car for work purposes? With the Company Car you can leave your car at home. Save your company money on taxis, parking and fleet vehicles. A subsidiary of the Co-operative Auto Network, the Company Car has a fleet of vehicles available for your company at various locations throughout Metro Vancouver.Visit to register.
