1 Frequently Asked Questions: Students Registration and getting started do I register for SAGE edge select? 1. Navigate to the site listed in your textbook or on the access card that came with your text. Each SAGE edge select site has three premium elements: a pre test, a post test, and a personalized study plan. These elements are available for each chapter and can be accessed by clicking on and expanding the chapter titles on the left hand navigation menu: 2. Clicking on any link with a lock will direct you to the registration and login page.. 3. Fill out the form (all fields are required) and hit register. The textbook access code is the code that was printed in the access card that came with your text. Please note that each access code can only be used once and provides online access to SAGE edge select for 6 months. 1

2 do I join a course section? Once logged in, you ll be prompted to enter a Course ID. This is an ID number supplied by your professor that allows them to track your progress through the assignments. If your instructor has assigned SAGE edge select, it is very important to enter your Course ID before doing any assignments. If you choose to join a course later, you will lose any completed work you ve done in self study mode. If you plan on joining an instructor led course, it is highly recommended that you obtain your course ID from your instructor and join a course before starting any work inside of SAGE edge select. 2

3 Have a course ID? Enter it and hit OK. You have now joined the course and will not be prompted for this again. Using SAGE edge select as a self study tool and don t need too join a course? Hit cancel and continue onto your first pre test. If you have already started using SAGE edge select but later obtained a Course ID, you can enter that by clicking on the Course ID button in the top right of the screen. Pleasee note: entering the course ID will delete any progress you ve made in the self study version of the product. Taking a pre test do I access the pre test for a chapter? Expand the left hand menu for any chapter login before being able to access it. to find the link for that chapter's pre test. You will be asked to register or many questions are in a pre test? Each chapter's pre test has 25 questions. Each question is related to one of that chapter's learning objectives. When should I take the pre test? Before or after I read the chapter? The pre test is intended to testt chapter comprehension after readingg the chapter.. many times can the pre testt be taken? The pre test can only be taken once. It provides a baseline indication of what material from the book you already know, and what you still need to work on. Why do I need to select a confidence level for each question? Selecting a confidence level helps to generate a more useful study plan that includes all the resources you need to master the chapter content. 3

4 Using the study plan is the study plan generated? SAGE edge select generates a personalized study plan once a pre testt is taken for a particular chapter. The study plan includes resources organized by the chapter's learning objectives. Resources appear in the study plan based on a combination of your indicated confidence level and your answers to questions in the pre test. Taking the post test will update the assigned resourcess in the study plan to show the items you have accessed. What types of items are includedd in the study plan? The study plan resources vary by textbook. All study plans include etext pages from the text that are relevant to the specific learning objectives. Each learning objective may also contain videos, additional readings, and other multimedia content. can I track what resources I've accessed? Any item in the study plan thatt you have accessed will be green and have a green check mark in front of it. Items that have not been accessed are orange. Your instructor is able to see which items you have and haven t accessed. What are the pre and post grading rules for showing resources? After taking the pre test: any score less than 100% for a particular learning objective will display the resources for that learning objective. Since the pre test is not a graded assignment, the standard is higher to make sure you understand that learning objective before taking the post test. After taking the post test: any score less than 75% for a particular learning objective will display the resources for that learning objective. 4

5 I want to access conten for a Learning Objective butt I've mastered it already. Can I still access it? Resources are always available in the study plan, even if they are not being displayed by default. If a learning objective iss not assigned, then it will be closed. To open the learning objective, click on the plus (+) in front of it. This will expand the learning objective and show all the resources underneath it. Click on minus ( ) to close the list. 5

6 Taking a post test do I access the post test for a chapter? From the left menu: expand the menu for any chapter to find the link for that chapter's post test. From the study plan: click on the "Take Post Test button in upper right. many questions are in a post test? Each chapter's post test has 25 questions. Each question is related too one of that chapter's learning objectives. When should I take the post test? If you are part of an instructor lefor when a chapter s post test should be taken. For students using SAGE edgee select as a self study course, post tests may be used as a graded assignment. Your professor may assign a specific due date tool, you should take the post test after working throughh your study plan and/or when you feel you have mastered the learning objectives. many times can the post test be taken? Post testnot master a learning objectivee after the first attempt, the study plann will continue to provide additional resources to can be taken more than once, though the testt will add different questions in subsequent attempts. If you do you, and you can attempt to master that objective by retaking the post test. Your most recent attempt is the attempt that will be recorded to your instructor s gradebook. 6

7 What do the post test questions cover? Post test questions are written to cover all of that chapter's learning objectives. The post test builds on the pre test by testing your ability to apply and analyze the book s concepts. General/Technical What are the system requirements for SAGE edge select?
