Bldg., Floydada, TX (806) January 6, 2016 CALENDAR OF EVENTS CEO = County Extension Office JANUARY Stock Show 19 - Snack Pack for Kids, Floydada JH Band Hall, 5:30PM 25 - County Council Meeting, CEO, 5PM 25- Parent Leader Association Meeting, CEO, 6PM 2016 COUNTY STOCK SHOW The date has been set for our 2016 County Stock Show. Here is the schedule as follows: THURSDAY, January 7th 12:00 pm Barn Opens 1-4:30pm Lamb and Goats Weigh in 6:00 pm Lamb and Goat Show FRIDAY, January 8th 9:00 AM Barn Opens 1pm-6pm Cattle and Swine Weigh In and In Place SATURDAY, January 9 th 8:00am Gilt Show Barrow Show Approx 12pm Lunch Break Heifer Show Steer Show Approx 4pm Set up Premium Sale Approx 5pm Buyer s Meal Approx 6pm Premium Sale SUNDAY, January 10 th 2:00 pm Cleanup Unity Center COUNTY STOCK SHOW CONCESSION STAND 4-H is responsible for the concession stand at the Stock Show this year so we need families to start signing up for food donations. There are still some opening on the food donations list and the work schedule if you have not signed up yet. If you want to sign up to bring something or work, please Amy or Donna or call the CEO to let us know. Trivia 1. Where is the Stock Show held? 2. Where is the Parent/Leader meeting held? 3. Where are they having Snack Pack for Kids? your answers to floyd@ag.tamu.edu and receive 1 point towards you 4-H Jacket, Patch, Tshirt or Senior Scholarship. ****************************************** SHOWMANSHIP CLINIC Kirby Nixon will be leading a Beef Cattle and Swine showmanship clinic at the Unity Center on the Friday evening before the County Stock Show. Pee Wee s are welcome to participate as well. Contact Cristen at the CEO if you have any questions. PARENT/LEADER ASSOCIATION MEETING All 4-H parents are invited to attend the Parent/Leader Association meeting set for Monday, January 25th at the CEO at 6 PM. The 4-H Budget will be discussed. Dinner will be provided. An RSVP would be helpful. MAJOR LIVESTOCK SHOW SCHEDULES Major Stock Show Schedule Books are available at the County Extension Office and online at The book includes move-in and show schedules for the Junior Livestock Show. Sand Hills Stock Show, Southwestern Exposition & Livestock Show, San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, and Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo. ******************************************

2 LIVESTOCK JUDGING Just a reminder to be studying the anatomy of the livestock so we will be ready for practices this spring. If you need copies of the anatomy handouts please contact Cristen. FASHION STORYBOARD The 4-H Fashion Storyboard is an industry-inspired method of displaying original designs. The storyboard tells the story of the designer s idea. The storyboard includes original illustrations and flats, as well as additional materials (such as photos from the Internet or magazines, paper, fabric swatches, patterns, etc.) that have influenced the unique design. Storyboards can be created and entered in one category. a. Wearable: Clothing that can be worn. Includes items such as pants, shorts, skirts, blouses, sweaters, coats, dresses, etc. b. Accessory: Includes items such as belts, purses, bags, hats, etc. c. Jewelry: Includes necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. d. Non-Wearable: Includes items such as pillows, organizers, holiday items, stuffed animals, items for the home, etc. e. Pet Clothing: Includes items that can be worn by a pet or any other animal. The following design brief serves as the direction for the 2016 Fashion Storyboards. 4-H members should create their Fashion Storyboard around their interpretation of the design brief. #4HFashionStoryboard2016 Social media has become a stage to not only set fashion trends, but to launch designers. Social media outlets such as, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube are easily accessible, and conversational in nature. Fashion trends are created though social media, the trend is not imposed on the audience, but instead, it is made available for the audience, and the audience will have the freedom to adopt it or grasp onto part of it. Create your own design and create a storyboard that will help it go viral The Fashion Storyboard contest is in April. If anyone is interested in the Fashion Storyboard project, please let the CEO know. FLOYD COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING A Council meeting is set for Monday, January 25th at the CEO at 5 PM. If you are a County Council officer or County delegate for your club, please try to attend this meeting. Please let the CEO know if you are planning to attend. SHOOTING SPORTS No Shooting Sports practices have been set for January because of scheduling with the Unity Center. Please keep an on your because we will be sending updates out if practices are set. SNACK PACK FOR KIDS Floydada will be putting together Snack Packs on Tuesday, January 19 th at 5:30PM in the Floydada Jr. High Band Hall. This is a great opportunity for community service and everyone is welcome to come help. If you have any questions, please contact the CEO.
