1 DANIELE PISANELLO Mr Daniele Pisanello is an independent legal expert in agro-food regulation providing tailor-made legal service and consultancy to Food Business Operators, Industries, Associations, Public Administrations, and Publishing Houses operating in the food chain. His legal practice focuses mainly on product regulations on the Single Market with special regards to marketing standards in the field of agricultural products and foodstuffs, conformity assessment of safety requirements, hygiene rules, food labelling and information for consumer, free movement, geographical indications, sanctions and penalties, responsibilities and product related liabilities. Daniele is admitted to the Italian Bar since 2006 and is a regular speaker at conferences and training programmes on food law and food control, in Italy and beyond. From 2005 to 2007 he was charged with the scientific planning and implementation of the Master in Food Law established by the University of Turin Faculty of Law. Daniele also lectured extensively at this Master. He co-directed the EFFL Summer Academy on Food Law & Policy ( He is trainer at EIPA (European Institute of Public Administration) in the field of EU Food Law and Official Controls. Daniele graduated in Law at the University of Pisa (summa cum laude, 2001) and holds a Master s degree in Valorisation and Control of High Quality Foodstuffs from the Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa (2003). After a traineeship on Legal Risk Management, Daniele worked in a Milan-based Law Firm dealing with product-safety requirements and Intellectual Property for clients operating in the Single Market (2003 to 2004). He then became Manager assistant at ASS.I.CA. (Italian Association of Meat Producers, Milan), where he was actively involved in lobbying and managing regulatory framework for meat products. In July 2005 he joined Bin Avvocati Associati (Turin and Milan Offices), led by Professor Marino Bin. He left Turin to embark on a European legal experience. He worked for FratiniVergano-European Lawyers, in Bruxelles, where he dealt with international trade and European Law with special regard to trade in food. In October 2008 he established his independent Food Law Office (Lex Alimentaria Law Office, providing consultancy, training activities and legal assistance specially focused on food law.

Key qualifications: Daniele Pisanello has worked on a number of projects involving food related trade issues such as sanitary and phytosanitary standards, marketing standards of agricultural products and foodstuffs, conformity assessment of safety requirements, food labelling and information for consumer, free movement, official control of conformity for foodstuffs, geographical indications, execution and enforcement, responsibilities and product related liabilities. Daniele Pisanello has to date dealt with a number of projects relating to food regulatory framework, technical assistance, capacity building and training services in the field of agro-food market: a) Daniele advised on food law, food labelling and consumer protection and acted as adviser on conformity assessment as regards processes for designing new marketable products; b) He took primary research responsibility for a major study conducted by the firm for the International Trade Centre on Vietnam s success story in the fisheries exports sector and with respect to the negotiation and conclusion of mutual recognition and equivalency agreements on TBT and SPS matters. c) Daniele acted as trainer and speaker for several training courses for Italian and foreign Competent Authorities charged with food law add official controls on foodstuffs (please, see lists below under points 13 and 15). d) Daniele was charged with the scientific planning and implementation of the Master in Food Law established by the University of Turin Faculty of Law ( ).
