Accepting a research position abroad, and short-term travelling for collaborations, meetings or fieldwork. Both can provide great opportunities as well as challenges. They can be important factors for success in an academic career, and are nowadays even seen as an essential requirement in many cases. In this workshop, we will discuss opportunities, challenges and impact of mobility. Participants will receive practical information and feedback on how to organize a move abroad and short-term travelling. Finally, participants will be encouraged to self-reflect on their needs and motivations in order to make a grounded decision regarding mobility in their own lives.

2 OBJECTIVES At the end of the workshop, the participant will:. > Understand the opportunities, challenges and impact of academic mobility. > Have practical information on how to find a position abroad and how to prepare for an international move. > Find creative solutions to balance private goals with travel requirements. > Have stronger basis to decide on how mobile they want to be as scientists. PARTICIPANTS > The workshop is tailored to women scientists (max 16): PhDs and Postdocs working in universities and polytechnic schools in Frenchspeaking Switzerland. METHODS > Theoretical input will be alternated with individual, pair and group work, as well as group discussions and feedback.

3 PROGRAMME > Understanding mobility and its impact > Moving abroad How do I find a position abroad? What do I do once I accepted a position? > Short-term travelling Why short-term travelling? How much is necessary? > How mobile do I want to be? PRACTICAL INFORMATION Dates Duration Timetable See on 1 day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As part of the course, lunch is offered. Place EPFL, Pavillon A, Room PAC 88 Certificate A certificate will be delivered to participants who have attended the whole training.
