2 More and more car drivers are discovering the advantages of diesel power indeed diesel-powered models now account for nearly one third of all new cars sold in the UK. And Vauxhall is at the forefront of this diesel revolution! Over the past two years we have introduced no less than seven new, state-of-the-art common rail diesel engines, including superb 1.9CDTi units for New Astra, Vectra and Signum, all offering the very best in technology, refinement and economy. Vauxhall diesels: state of the art Vauxhall common rail diesels are brilliant to drive, with masses of torque for effortless overtaking, smooth power delivery and levels of performance that wouldn t seem out of place in a petrol model! The 1.9CDTi diesels are particularly impressive, with excellent flexibility and refinement to rival petrol cars when cruising on the motorway (Auto Express). The majority of Vauxhall s new high-tech common rail units also meet the stringent Euro 4 emissions regulations set to become mandatory for all car engines for 2006 a fact which gives Vauxhall one of the UK s broadest ranges of Euro 4 compliant diesels. This makes them particularly attractive to company car drivers as they avoid the 3% surcharge on diesels when calculating benefit in kind tax* and the Government s fuel scale charge. This situation is expected to last until 6 April 2006 when the Government has announced that the exemption to the 3% surcharge will be scrapped (though company cars registered before 1 January 2006 will continue to qualify for the exemption for the lifetime of the vehicle). * = This brochure provides taxation information as a guide only. 3 The benefits of Vauxhall common rail diesel engines include: Performance First and foremost, today s Vauxhall diesels are brilliant to drive! Engines like the 3.0CDTi V6 24v offer superb smooth performance allied to outstanding flexibility and petrol-style power delivery. The broad spread of torque makes them ideal towing cars too. Economy Vauxhall diesels are fuel efficient. New Tigra coupé roadster models fitted with the outstanding 70PS 1.3CDTi 16v common rail unit return 61.4mpg on the combined cycle a remarkable achievement for so sporty a vehicle. Corsa 1.3CDTi 16v models do even better, returning an amazing 64.2mpg. Emissions Low CO 2 emissions make Vauxhall common rail turbo diesel models a particularly good choice for company car drivers; as Auto Express remarked when reviewing the 1.9CDTi (120PS) Vectra hatchback model, with a CO 2 figure of 154g/km, the Vectra CDTi is one of the cleanest oil-burners money can buy. Servicing Vauxhall diesels can save you money on servicing. The three new 1.9CDTi engines and the 3.0CDTi V6 24v (fitted to Vectra and Signum) only require 30,000 miles/ 2 year service intervals. That compares to the maximum 20,000 miles/2 year intervals for equivalent petrol models (depending on how the car is driven). Vehicle Excise Duty Vauxhall diesels can save you money on your road fund licence, too. Corsa models powered by the 1.3CDTi 16v engine boast one of the lowest CO 2 emissions figures of any diesel car, an astonishing 119g/km. This means they qualify for the Government s AA Band (currently for 12 months). Re-sale values Vauxhall diesels hold their value well, too. Figures suggest that in most cases the price achieved at resale usually goes at least some way towards covering any price premium involved in purchasing a diesel. To quote industry specialist CAP Monitor, It is likely that a customer would be able to recover some of the increased cost of the diesel model versus a petrol model.

Easytronic five-speed transmission is available at extra cost on Corsa 1.3CDTi 16v. Five-speed automatic transmission is available at extra cost on Vectra and Signum 3.0CDTi V6 24v. Vauxhall common rail diesels: the line-up 1.3CDTi 16v (70PS) Available on Corsa and New Tigra, this is a version of the mother of all diesels that powered the ECO VX220 concept to 17 international diesel performance records. As well as outstanding economy (61.4mpg in the combined cycle in New Tigra), it offers excellent refinement and low CO 2 emissions (just 119g/km in Corsa guise). No wonder Autocar described it as, quite simply, clean, economical and willing. 1.7CDTi 16v (80PS) Available on New Astra, this low pressure turbo variant was the UK s first diesel car engine in its class to comply with the demanding Euro 4 emission regulations. 1.7CDTi 16v (100PS) Fitted to the sporty Corsa SRi and also available on Meriva and New Astra, this powerful, high-pressure 100PS version of our 1.7CDTi 16v has long been regarded as the midsized diesel to beat. Offering greater responsiveness, smoother running and lower exhaust emissions than a conventional diesel unit, it challenges the belief that diesel can t equal sporty. 3.0CDTi V6 24v (177PS) Ideal for drivers who want a smooth and powerful performer with excellent economy and low emissions, this all-aluminium unit, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, boasts outstanding responsiveness at all speeds. New 1.9CDTi (120PS/150PS versions) The new 1.9CDTi engines bring unrivalled refinement and economy to the New Astra, Vectra and Signum line-up. These units come in a choice of low-pressure, 8-valve and 16-valve 120PS formats plus a highpressure, 16-valve 150PS version. All three are matched with a six-speed manual gearbox to offer strong performance allied to smooth power deployment and rigorous emissions control. Naturally, all versions are fully compliant with the rigorous Euro 4 regulations and thus escape the 3% company car tax surcharge on diesels.

5 The new generation of Vauxhall common rail diesel engines are designed to supply constant high pressure fuel to electronically controlled injectors through a single i.e. common fuel reservoir or rail, located just above the cylinder head (1). Compared to conventional diesel engines (which employ an engine-driven pump delivering fuel to each cylinder in turn), Vauxhall s common rail design is able to provide a much higher fuel pressure regardless of engine speed. This constant higher pressure, together with carefully mapped electronics (2), allows the injectors to deliver a precise amount of fuel to each cylinder in turn (3).
