3 This soft X-ray bag inspection system meets the growing awareness of the need for packaging quality control to achieve safety and security. Soft X-ray Package Inspection System Soft X-ray and image analysis algorithms detect foreign objects in pouch package bags. Quality inspection that used to involve a human operator checking each bag one at a time can now be automated. This system even handles materials that hide the contents from view, such as aluminum metallized film and aluminum packaging material. This pouch package inspection system irradiates the subject with X-rays, reads the transmitted radiation with a line sensor camera, then processes the images to detect defects. The defect data are stored in an inspection device. Nireco s superior inspection system features visible image processing analysis technology built up over more than 40 years, as well as an extensive library of images. This system can detect foreign objects with high degree of accuracy. Inline Detects real-time at the processing stage, and can feed back to the processing equipment. Offline For inspection of finished products, inspects all products continuously.

5 X-ray line sensor camera with image resolution algorithms Once the X rays pass through the inspection subject, the transmittance is scanned by an X ray line sensor camera which uses image processing technology with the latest algorithms to clearly pick out any foreign objects. Exposure in the case of a single operator working a 40-hour week would be 0.5µSV/h x 40 hours x 13 weeks (3 months) = Sv/3 months) Contractors installing X-ray apparatus must submit plans for the installation to the Director of the competent Labor Standards Inspection Office 30 days before the installation work is due to begin.

A foreign body sticking to the bag will increase the thickness and absorb more X-rays, leading to an X-ray density difference that can help identify the foreign body.
