2 CSUSB Ed.D. Mission Statement Mission The mission of the CSU, San Bernardino Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership is to develop scholarpractitioner-leaders who respond to 21 st century challenges by promoting practices, policies, and programs committed to equity, social justice, and transformation.

3 Why the Doctorate in the CSU? Significant numbers of leaders retiring in next 10 years Major void in the pool of educational leaders, particularly in areas that haven t historically offered the doctorate Respond to the unique needs of regions such as the Inland Empire

4 Inland Empire Context Faces considerable social, political, educational, and economic challenges. Disparities by race, income, gender, language, ability impacting opportunities to learn, resulting in achievement/opportunity gaps. 5 Who Attends Our Program? PK-12 school and district administrators PK-12 educational leaders Counselors Psychologists Social Workers Health Educators Community College administrators Community College faculty Educational Policy makers

6 Admissions Requirements Bachelor s and master s degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher in upper division/graduate study Submit all official transcripts from previous institutions GRE Scores Writing samples: Future Directions Essay, Program Plan Essay & Scholarly Writing Sample Letters of Recommendation letter and form

7 What Are We Looking for in a Candidate? Evidence of leadership Evidence of tenacity and integrity Traditional evidence GPA, GRE, MA with project or thesis

8 Structure/Time Requirements Three year program year round including summers First two years classes on one week night and Saturday morning Third year/on-going work on Dissertation Reading and writing required for the program is rigorous

9 Coursework: PK-20 Emphasis All Students Take: Scientific Inquiry, Quantitative & Qualitative Methods, Research Seminars, Equity & Diversity, Foundations of Education & Leadership, Human Resource Development, Fiscal Planning & Facilities Management, Ethical Leadership and more K12 Specialization Courses Include: Organizations and Leadership, Instructional Leadership and Learning Strategies, Assessment and Evaluation, Politics, Legislative Action, and Educational Change, and Strategic Planning, Accountability and Change. Educational Leadership Research methodology Research Support Community College/Higher Education Specialization Courses* Include: Higher Education Strategic Planning, Accountability, and Change, Higher Education Governance and Policy, Foundations of Community Colleges and other Higher Education Systems, Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, and Fostering Student Learning and Success. *Expected launch, Fall 2015 All Students Take: Dissertation Units *While there are two areas of specialization, the program emphasizes PK-20 pipeline
