Dominion is currently recruiting for 2014 summer interns for Engineering and Engineering Technology internship opportunities in many of our business areas. These opportunities will be located at several of Dominion s locations, offices, and power stations. Engineering interns will work with experienced team members to assist on projects or complete individual work assignments under oversight related to systems, design, or site engineering. Engineering Technology interns will work with experienced team members to assist on projects or complete individual work assignments under oversight related to the design and installation of electric distribution facilities, or technical support in the installing, maintaining, and repairing of electrical equipment and system protection devices. As an Engineering or Engineering technology intern, Dominion has opportunities in several areas of the company. Specific duties will vary by location, department, project, engineering degree type, and/or intern class standing. Interns will work alongside experienced Dominion engineers, technical specialists, and designers assisting with engineering calculations, field inspections, drawing reviews, and problem solving of power station issues. Interns perform routine assignments designed to develop engineering knowledge, gain familiarity with techniques, approaches, and practices that support Dominion s Business. Areas within Dominion that require engineering degrees include Nuclear, Power Generation, Corporate Risk Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Alternative Energy Solutions, Information Technology, Environmental, and Energy

2 Infrastructure. Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Nuclear, Welding and Systems Engineering majors preferred. Nuclear Engineers support all aspects of the plant to include, but not limited to Design (Mechanical and Electrical), Systems, Fire Protection Engineering, Welding Engineering, Programs, Equipment Reliability, Component Engineering, Core Design, and Fuel and Safety Analysis. Dominion s corporate engineering office is located in Richmond, VA. Dominion s nuclear assets include three nuclear power stations Millstone in Connecticut and Surry and North Anna in Virginia. Power Generation is the premier operator of generation assets, considered leaders in all aspects of an evolving industry with a mission to generate power using diverse fuels and renewable resources in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable and cost effective manner. Specific tasks for Engineering interns will be in one or more of the following areas: medium and low voltage system design and analysis; electrical power equipment installation or problem solving such as transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, generators, excitation systems, batteries and battery chargers; and digital relay protection design, analysis, and calculation of settings. Dominion locations with Power Generation Engineering intern positions include the Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA, the Possum Point Power Station south of Washington, D.C, the Chesterfield Power Station in Chester, VA, the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center in St. Paul, VA, and the Mount Storm Power Station in northeastern West Virginia. Energy Infrastructure is comprised of both the Electric and Gas Transmission and Distribution areas within Dominion. Engineers provide the structural analysis for a transmission line; determine the proper fuse size for an electrical line that is being designed; provide reliability support through performance analysis of electrical facilities and producing failure trends, and assist with assessing pipeline integrity and determining repairs and remediation of pipelines. Serve as the Dominion liaison with regulatory agencies, developing and recommending compliance procedures and tools, and advancing in engineering techniques. Dominion s Corporate Risk Engineering ensures the company s operating earnings are met each quarter through the practice of mitigating; fires/explosions, boiler & machinery equipment/process failures, third party exposures, and other business interruptions. The role of Supply Chain Management is to deliver a substantial sustainable competitive advantage for Dominion's businesses by: 1)Developing and implementing sourcing and logistics strategies to meet the business objectives of all operating groups and corporate functions, and 2)Providing operating services which optimize these strategies through effective supply chain management The Alternative Energy Solutions group serves as a kind of research-and-development unit for alternative energy. It develops alternative-energy projects and then hands them over to traditional parts of the business, such as transmission distribution. Alternative Energy is not just renewables, it includes smart-grid technologies, distributed generation (that s solar and microturbines for wind at a customer location), electric vehicles, all the way over to your large-scale solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, fuel cells and battery storage.
