3 Statements from our church vision related to frances s area of oversight: Everyone is awake. Each member of the church community is set on fire through an authentic relationship with God through Christ. We are resourced to develop our personal prayer, study and disciplines. We humbly expect, pray for and long to see people becoming Christians through our witness of Him. We long for peace, justice and wholeness among the broken and poor of the world. We live this out in a community where We look for the healing power of God to work in us as we pray. Everyone is sharing. We are one body, and need each other. We seek to value and develop each other by starting with the gifts, passions and motivations people have. Everyone has a part to play. We bless and support the visions God gives within our church community. Everyone is passionate about prayer and worship. We change when we encounter the reality of God s presence. We know praying is as vital as breathing, and so we take whatever opportunities we can to pray together and use whatever networks and media we can to communicate prayer needs. Page 3 of 6
4 Material from our strategy document related to frances s area of oversight: Prayer: Nothing happens in the Kingdom without prayer which, both individually and collectively, is built on the fourfold aspect of adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication To inspire each individual church member to have a hunger for and commitment to personal development in their faith, through regular Bible reading and prayer To provide support and accessible resources for home- based Bible reading and prayer for all ages That all small groups should carry the same watermark of worship, teaching, prayer, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and fellowship one with another Through active promotion of regular personal Bible reading and prayer through teaching, small groups, and a promotional campaign modelled, for example, on the 5- a- day message for healthy living. To build a rhythm of corporate celebration around the church calendar and its major feast- days and festivals For the church to have a passionate and regular commitment to corporate prayer, from prayer triplets to small groups to the whole community gathered together To provide prayer as required for needs and circumstances arising from time to time in the church and in the world Through the leadership of a Prayer Co- ordinator, or Co- ordinators, whose role will include but not be limited to: Leading and providing for the individual and collective prayer life of the church in all respects, and across all ages Co- ordinating (with the Prayer Ministry Co- ordinator) intercessory and prayer ministry teams to be available at each service, and other relevant occasions Ensuring that intercessory and prayer ministry teams are trained, developed, supported, encouraged and held accountable Re- establishing a web- based prayer diary which includes regular, long- term items of concern to the church community, and more short- term issues which require rapid redress Maintaining a prayer chain for the whole church, for mobilisation in response to specific needs arising Promoting prayer through a variety of initiatives and activities including: Bi- monthly whole- church prayer gatherings Workshop days with guest speakers 24/7 prayer room Prayer labyrinth Collecting and encouraging feedback from answered prayers Through maintaining service times under review, with a view to addressing changing habits and preferences within the worshipping community, and the different needs which may arise from season to season Page 4 of 6
5 Background to the Prayer Coordinator role St Mark s church has a worshipping community in excess of 600 adults and more than 300 under 18 s. Like many growing churches, it is essential that we have resources available to facilitate spiritual growth and discipleship for our congregation and accessible resources that can be utilized by the wider community too. The operations and administration team at St Marks has evolved during the past five years from a single, part time administrative assistant to two part time administrators and two building stewards. The church has recently employed an Operations manager and we are now seeking to add the Prayer Coordinator to the team on a voluntary basis. Working closely with the leadership and Pastoral team, the Prayer Coordinator role will be essential in seeing our vision for St. Mark s come to fruition. Prayer is central to everything we do and all that we aspire to do to bring God s Kingdom to this community. Over the past couple of years, considerable prayer and thought has been put into our strategic planning process. One of the outcomes has been the recognition that we need to encourage and develop prayer in every area of what we do from direct prayer ministry and healing prayer, to prayer structures for individuals and groups. The priorities identified for the Prayer Coordinator role are: Supporting the development of prayer ministry at St Mark s both through individual and collective prayer Work with the Pastoral Director to expand the access to prayer for restoration and healing Facilitate effective support for prayer through web- based resources, workshops, prayer meetings Create, develop and implement a Web based St. Mark s Prayer diary Regular initiatives and activities such as whole- church prayer gatherings, workshop days with guest speakers, 24/7 prayer room Intercessory and Prayer Ministry teams are in place and supported effectively About the role The Prayer Coordinator role is to there to help in fulfilling our vision by supporting the development of prayer and prayer ministry at St Mark s. Whilst the primary focus of the role is on the co- ordination of prayer ministry, the role holder is part of the team at St Mark s and will therefore often have contact with a wide range of the St Mark s team and community. Prayer must be a central core in everything that the church does so, together with the Pastoral Director, the role involves supporting and promoting prayer in all aspects of the life of St Marks and will require liaison with all the other ministry strands. Key relationships Building relationships is critical in any leadership role and these are the key relationships that the Resource Coordinator is expected to develop and nurture:- A close and collaborative working relationship with the Staff Leadership team which will include the Vicar, Associate Vicar and Curate, Operations Manager, Homegroup Overseer, Releasing Gifts Director, Musical Worship Director, Pastoral Director, Resource Co- ordinator and Associate Minister/Children & Families A working relationship with the Church Wardens A close and collaborative working relationship with the administrative team A key point of contact for all groups within the church for anything related to prayer and prayer ministry A strategic and working relationship with the PCC Key Responsibilities Supporting development of prayer at St Mark s Page 5 of 6
6 Co- ordinate (with the Prayer Ministry Team Co- ordinator) intercessory and prayer ministry teams to be available at each service, and other relevant occasions Ensuring that intercessory and prayer ministry teams are trained, developed, supported and encouraged Help develop a programme to support the practice of prayer across St Mark s Recruit and develop a team of volunteers who are committed, passionate and able to support the provision of prayer ministry Ensure access to prayer ministry (and therefore restoration and healing) is expanded through services and beyond Ensure the effective operation of the prayer ministry teams Ensure that a web- based prayer diary is in place which includes regular, long- term items of concern to the church community, and more short- term issues which require rapid redress Maintain a prayer chain for the whole church, for mobilisation in response to specific needs arising. Promoting prayer through a variety of initiatives across the church Help support the Leadership Team and PCC in identifying and resolving issues and obstacles which prevent the achievement of St Mark s vision and mission Help ensure that the PCC and Leadership Team are kept informed of progress on the delivery of plans, submitting progress reports as required Help ensure that any issues or obstacles that prevent the vision being successfully implemented are escalated to the Leadership Team and PCC via the Finance and Page 6 of 6
