1 All students entering the department wishing to pursue the B.F.A. in Art Education will be admitted under the B.A. in Art. Entrance into the B.F.A. programs is contingent on passing a formal portfolio review. Please attend a portfolio workshop, held every fall and spring semester, for information regarding application requirements. All candidates must obtain provisional admission to the Teacher Licensure program before they can register for their first field experience course(s). Provisional admission requires attending an application meeting, submitting application materials and satisfying the fingerprinting requirement. Formal admission requires provisional admission plus satisfying the Math requirement and meeting the GPA requirement of 2.5 or higher over the most recent 30 credit hours. Students must be formally admitted to the Teacher Licensure program, have satisfactory scores on the state licensure examination, and meet certain minimum GPA requirements overall and in all courses required for licensure, to apply for student teaching. See your advisor for more information. A grade of C- or better is required in each required ART, ARTH, CDES and ARTE course before progressing to subsequent courses. A grade of C or better is required in each course offered by the School of Education. Art Foundation Requirements: 18 credits ART Studio Foundations: 2D ART Studio Foundations: Drawing (was Drawing I: Black and White ) ART 01 - Studio Foundations: 3D ART 31 - Studio Foundations: 4D ARTH World Art I: Art Prior to 1400 ARTH World Art II: Art Post-Foundation Course Work for all BFA in Art students: 9 credits ARTH 2080 (ARTH 3080) - Art of the 20th and 21st Centuries ARTH Art Theory and Criticism ART Studio Art Senior Experience: Exhibition and Thesis Art Education Concentration Requirements: 36 credits (see page 3) Primary Studio Emphasis: -18 credits (see starting page 4) Secondary Studio Emphasis: 9-12 credits (see starting page 4) Technology Requirement: 3 credits counted elsewhere (see page 3) Integrated Media Requirement: 9 credits counted elsewhere (see pages 3 and 6) Electives in the Major: 3 credits (any ART, ARTE, ARTH or CDES not used elsewhere) The B.F.A. in Art is an extended major; no minor is required. General Studies (see page 2): 34 credits Total for the degree: credits Students in this program will exceed the 120 credits total, upper division 40 minimum requirements. 3 Integrated Media Requirement: 9 credits Choose at least 9 credits of courses designated as integrated media (see list, following). These courses may be applied to either emphasis or to the electives in the major. Primary Studio Emphasis: -18 credits Secondary Studio Emphasis: 9-12 credits Choose a primary and secondary emphasis area from those listed below. For the primary emphasis, take all the courses listed for the emphasis; for secondary, three courses (9 credits) are required except in integrated media, which requires any four courses (12 credits). Integrated media (at end of list) is available only as a secondary emphasis; prerequisites apply.
