1 Totus Tuus News Pope John Paul II Council #13794 Newsletter th Ave. S., Seattle, WA Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism April 2016 Grand Knight Jeffery Kleppinger Chief Editor Renato Sacramento Field Agent Michael Stergios Message from the Grand Knight Here we are in mid-april, with only 2½ months left in the fraternal year; there is still a lot going on, however. On Sunday, April 24 th, we will be celebrating the Feast of St. George. Our council will participate in two ways, the main one being our pancake breakfast. This time, it will serve both Masses. We will also have a knight participating in the procession beginning both Masses, to carry our council poster. Actually we don t have one yet, but my son, Jeff Jr., has graciously agreed to make one. The knights will be doing their part for the St. George Family Day of Service on Sunday, May 1 st. The students will be helping in the maintenance of school and parish grounds. We will be cooking hot dogs in the kitchen, and will be provide potato salad, chips, and water. The Mass on May 8 th will be a particularly busy one. First and foremost, the Catholic Annual Appeal begins that day, so substantial time will be devoted to it. It also happens to be Mothers Day. Our council will continue our tradition in passing out roses to the mothers. But there is something else as well the Silver Rose (from Our Lady of Guadalupe) will be on temporary display it is now going down the I-5 corridor, from Everett to Seattle, then to Puyallup. Our plans are to have the Silver Rose with the Mothers Day roses for a special blessing. From May 13 to the 15 th, there will be the Knights of Columbus Washington State Convention down in Vancouver. Delegates and alternates from Council #13794 will be attending. And shortly before the fraternal year ends, the council will hold its annual Spaghetti Dinner. In the meantime, we intend to do another membership drive and First/ Second Degrees as needed. We want to keep Dave Wilson in our prayers. He notified me that he had a very small heart attack on Thursday and was able to return home on Friday. He will soon be on a portable monitor. You may have noted in a recent about our discontinuation of votes and perhaps my explanation in that message wasn t really complete. When deciding to vote yes or no on an issue, there may be some debate going on before the motion is made and seconded, during which the council members can hear the pros and cons, then decide on how to cast their vote. When an issue is ed for a vote, the recipient only sees the question, but gets none of the discussion behind it. That is one reason why it is important to attend the meetings! We recently received a thank you letter from St. Vincent de Paul for our $500 donation for the Food for Families program. The letter was submitted to State and you can view it on the following link: bulletins/2016/apr.pdf. It is on page 24. My wishes for our council to have a great April and May! Vivat Jesus! 2 From the Faithful Navigator, St. Joan of Arc - Assembly 3398, at St. George Parish This fraternal year of 2015 to 2016 is quickly passing by, since we are now in the last quarter of the year! Our Assembly 3398 has been holding it's monthly Assembly business meetings as usual on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at St. George Parish and we will continue with this schedule. Sir Knight Don Gillette has stepped up as the new Faithful Pilot, which was recently vacated earlier this past winter and Sir Knight Edwin Barber assumed the officer position of Sentinel. Plans are underway for our annual Faithful Navigator's dinner to be held in June at the same location as last year. At our next meeting in April, our Assembly will again be taking nominations for the officer positions for the next fraternal year of 2016 to A 4th degree exemplification has been scheduled by the District Master Eugene Daly for our Assembly 3398 in November of If we push for membership and obtain at least 20 signed form 4's our District Master has agreed to set up a 4th Degree for our Assembly before the end of this fraternal year, so let's reach out to those 3rd degree brother knights in our Council's and get them to the 4th degree and expand our St. Joan of Arc Assembly An advertisement representing our Assembly 3398 has been sent into the State Chairman for inclusion into the annual State Convention booklet. There is some news that there will be a new Assembly forming in SW Seattle and so stay tuned. Currently, our Assembly has approximately 7 members who are able to show up in regalia and we would really like to double that number, so that we have the resources to show up in regalia for those functions which we are requested for, such as funerals. We need to continue to look to some fundraising so that we can come up with the funds that we need to make our Assembly perform. Our Faithful Comptroller Renato has been busy completing membership cards for those who have paid up. Annual reports are again coming up soon and our officer staff will work hard to get these in on time. Assembly #3398 will be looking forward to the next fraternal year with the same enthusiasm as this year! Let's make sure that you inform your Brother Sir Knights about our meeting for this Wednesday, on April 20th, at 7:00 p.m. at St. George Parish and will hope to see all of you there! Vivat Jesus!
