3 Library Manager BAS100 Using Your Training Guide Duration: 20 minutes Module Overview Welcome to a Destiny training. This module will outline who your trainer is, what type of learning style you have, and how to use the materials to get the most out of this training. Module Objective When given a participant guide, you will be able to identify how to use the screen shots, talking points, and resources correctly. 3

Pull out the instructions and read how to use it. B. Call your tech friend to walk you through how to use the player. C. Pull the gadget out and play with it until you figure out how to use it.! Based on the poll, your learning style is:! Some learners favor a particular style while others use several. This guide is designed to satisfy components of each learning style. 4

It is not a manual because it would be outdated with each new software release. Similar to other software applications, Destiny has an on-page and online Help that discusses step-by-step procedures, how to's, and guides to operating Destiny.! help the auditory learners know which points to tune into.! Screen shots help the visual learners to see where the trainer is at in the application. Feel free to highlight and write on screen shots.! Activities and screen shots help the kinesthetic learner to know where to go and play in the application. 5

Activity Your guide has been organized into modules and levels, for example CAT101. Similar to a college course, the level of the module is indicated by the number; 101 means it is a basic topic while 301 means it is a more complex topic. 9 Library Manager BAS101 Getting Around In Destiny Duration: 20 minutes Module Overview Here is your chance to experiment with the new software application Destiny. In this module, you will go on a scavenger hunt to find different features and learn about Destiny's Help systems. Module Objective When given a list of items, you will find each of them in Destiny successfully. 9

10 Library Manager Getting Logged In! From the District page, select your site.! You can bookmark the site as a favorite by clicking on the right side of the site name on the Welcome Screen. 10

13 Library Manager CAT101 Searching the Catalog Duration: 30 minutes Module Overview The days of the card catalog are gone. Destiny brings resources to life in your catalog with pictures, peer reviews, and search tools. In this module, learn how to search your catalog. Module Objectives When given a search term, you will be able to use Basic, Power, and Visual searches to get search results. 13

15 Basic Search! Basic search by Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, and Series! Booleans operators (AND, OR, NOT) must be capitalized! Wildcards (asterisk and question mark)! Excellent for patrons browsing the Catalog, or patrons with a general idea of what they are looking for.! On-page Help outlines wildcards, stop words, Top 10! My Searches allows them to retrieve previous searches 15

16 Library Manager Title Record! When searching the Catalog, patrons will see the Title Record information and the Copy information. Title records are shared throughout the district. There should be one title record for every item.! The title record has author, title, and other bibliographic information. Copies have the barcode and site location.! While searching if you see titles in the district that are not in your library but you would like them to be, click on the Wish List button. For more information on about Wish Lists, see on-page Help.! Different subtabs (MARC View, Reviews, and Copies) enable patrons to do different tasks related to the title record. 16

17 Library Manager Power Search! Power search is more robust than the Basic search including Material Type, Publication Year, and other search specifications.! Excellent to use when you know exactly what you are looking for. This will help refine search results. 17

18 Library Manager Visual Search! All visual searches are preconfigured and can be Titles or specified websites. The preconfigured searches may be edited to best fit your needs.! Patron clicks on Visual icon and drills down until search results appear. This is great for patrons learning to read and spell to search the Catalog. 19 Library Manager CIR101 Check Out, Check In, and Renew Duration: 30 minutes Module Overview One of the most fundamental tasks in any library or media center is circulating items. In Destiny, you can check items out to patrons using names, barcodes, pictures, and homerooms lists. This module will focus on how to check items out to patrons using barcodes, names, and wildcards. Module Objectives When given a patron name and/or barcode and a copy, check an item out and in correctly. 19

24 Library Manager CIR102 Overdue Notices/Reports Duration: 30 minutes Module Overview This module will cover how to create notices and reports that notify you and your patrons of what items are overdue or will be overdue if not returned. Accountability is made easy by the Destiny reporting features. Module Objectives You will be able to create overdue notices that run automatically when given your library overdue policies. 24

30 Library Manager CIR103 Offline Circulation Duration: 20 minutes Module Overview Whether you want to hold a reading session outside the library or if the internet is not accessible, circulation in Destiny does not have to stop. This module discusses how to use offline circulation to document all circulation activity when an internet connection is not accessible. For step-by-step instructions for How to get Follett Remote and use Follett Remote, see your Appendix. Module Objectives Without access to the internet, you will be able to circulate items using patron and item barcodes and Follett Remote correctly. 30

34 Library Manager CIR203 Circulation Loan Periods and Policies Duration: 60 minutes Module Overview Because different patrons can check out items for different periods of time, you have to tell Destiny how long you want certain patrons to have certain items. In this module, you will learn how to set up your loan periods for students, faculty, and volunteers and help you manage your resources wisely. You will spend at least 30 minutes setting up and editing your loan policies in Destiny. Module Objectives Using your library policies, you will be able to edit and create patron and circulation types correctly. 34

Click on the Delete icon next to the Circulation Type you would like to remove. 3. From the drop-down menu Change the assigned circulation type to: select the circulation type you to which you like the copies to be moved. 4. Under the Are you sure you want to delete this circulation type? field, select the Yes button. 39

41 Patron Types! Patron types should be as simple as possible.! To edit or delete Patron Types, click on edit or trash icons.! Combining Patron Types uses the same procedure as combining Circulation Types. 41

42 Creating and Editing Patron Types! On-page Help icons define each field! Fixed Date versus Ceiling Date! Default Hold Priority! Block check outs and renewals if the patron has fines or overdue items (override available) 42

43 Setting up a Calendar! Destiny uses the Calendar to assign due dates, calculate fines (if applicable), manage holds, and report circulation statistics.! To close library, click on the hyperlink of the day you would like to close.! To move to another month, click on the previous or next arrows beside the month name, or click on the View link in the bottom right corner of page and select the month from the current year's calendar.! To change hours of operation, click on the hyperlinked Hours.! Hours affect the loan policies for hourly checkouts. You can still circulate items outside the set open/closed days/hours. Items will never be due when the library is closed. 43

45 Library Manager CAT204 Manually Adding Titles Duration: 60 minutes Module Overview This module covers how to add individual titles to your database. Whether you are adding a book, electronic book, or something else, this module will discuss how to select the best MARC record for your database and add it. Other topics covered include how to add copies to titles and how to identify an Alliance Plus, Z-source, or a title record that is already in your database. Module Objectives When given a title, you will be able to add title records to your Destiny database using Alliance Plus and other resources to add the title to the database without creating duplicates. 45

You can add a title from an Alliance Plus resources, Z-sources, or create your own using the Easy MARC editor.! You can add a title, copy, and digital resources such as music, sound effects, and lesson plans to each title record. 47

51 ! The Add Copies page allows you to assign barcodes, call numbers, as well as print labels.! On-page Help clarifies what each field means. Adding Digital Resources to a Title! To add a digital resource, click on the Digital button on the right side of the screen.! It will then appear in the title record and is a searchable field from the catalog.! The content name appears as a link in the Explore! Section of the title record. 51

52 Library Manager Create a New Record! When you cannot find a title using Alliance Plus or Z-sources, you can click on the Add the Title blue hyperlink. Destiny provides a template and MARC editor to help you create a MARC record.! The MARC Editor shows you a MARC record template and allows you to fill it in. The Easy Editor provides you with blanks that you fill in. You can toggle back and forth between the views as necessary. 52

63 ! The Title Details Site Configuration option allows you to display more or less information about titles for your patrons searching the catalog. You can also switch the order of how these details are viewed by changing the option. Include reviewer s name in Library Review! When the check box "Include the reviewer's (patron) name in library reviews" is enabled, the name appears in the Catalog when the Title is searched. 63

64 Library Manager Store Basic Search Term Statistics Data! When the "Store Basic search term statistics data" checkbox is selected, you can run a report in the Back Office tab that show search results.! When the "Ignore leading articles" checkbox is selected, Destiny will ignore these leading articles: a, an, d', de, the, and ye as well as the Spanish/Portuguese and French leading articles. 64

65 Enable Search Suggestions! Select the box if you would like Destiny Quest to provide a list of terms for the patron to search by.! As a patron is typing in the Find field, a list of items will appear from a drop down menu. The patron can select the word to begin a search. 65

When you select the Elementary interface, your Visual Search results will appear in larger text, with images, and icons to help younger learners interpret the results.! If you select Standard interface, it appears as the other search results (Basic, Power, and others) do in regular font and verbiage. 66

69 The Rest of Site Configuration! When the checkbox "When the last copy of a library title is deleted " is checked, a title without any copies will not appear when patrons search for it.! The title will not be deleted from the district's collection.! The "During library inventories " options allow you to create settings for your inventories. Destiny will check for shelf order based on whichever selection you choose. The Check shelf order check box must be checked in Inventory for these options to take effect. When checking items in and out, would you like Destiny to count calendar days or only the number of days that the library is open?! Your site would like to make a patron's picture appear when the patron record is accessed (at checkout, to place a hold etc).! Your site uses fines for overdue, lost, and/or using library services (such as making photocopies, borrowing library supplies etc).! Your site places holds on library items. 71

73 Setting Up Interlibrary Loans, Patron Pictures, Fines, and Holds! Interlibrary loan is when any item is borrowed by or loaned to patrons at another site in the district.! Calculate loan periods based on calendar days or open days.! Display patron pictures.! If you waive fines for overdue, lost, damaged, or other fine types, require an explanation for the action. Fines for overdue items can be overridden if necessary.! When setting the number of days before a ready reservation, the number will tell Destiny how many days before the patron picks up item. Make sure the number days is high enough so the holds can be processed.! Automatically deleting holds keeps your "holds" section clean. 73

75 Library Manager CAT105 TitlePeek Duration: 20 minutes Module Overview Are you tired of not being able to judge a book by its cover? With Title Peek, you can come close. By clicking on the cover of a title in your collection, your patrons have the ability to view the title's cover, table of contents, notes about the author, and journal reviews of the title. In this module, you will learn about how to use TitlePeek to get more information about your titles, without ever taking a book off the shelves. 101 Library Manager Activity There are two ways to add resources to a list. The first procedure allows you to get very specific about which resources get into the list. The second procedure is more general and allows you to add a wide range of subjects. To add by specific title, follow this procedure: 1. Under the Catalog tab, and Library Search option, perform a Catalog search. 2. Find a title you would like to add. 3. Choose the appropriate list from the Selected List dropdown list. 4. On the right side of the screen, next to the title, select Add to this list or next to the list, select Add Page. To add by barcode, date added, subject, author, and/or call number, follow this procedure: 1. Under the Catalog tab, and Resource list option, find the appropriate resource list. 2. Next to the title of the Resource List, click on the View button. 3. Click on the Add to this List button from the I want to dropdown list, and select Go. 4. Whether you want to promote new materials or track funding sources, you can group various copies into categories for these purposes. This module will outline how to create a copy category and assign copies to it. Module Objectives When given a Copy Category, identify how to create, edit, and delete one correctly. 102

The Copy Categories subtab allows library staff to organize resources by subject (American History), funding source (the Joyce Fund), teacher resources (Mr. Patla's Bug List), and administrative tasks (New Copies That Need Barcoding).! The main difference between the functionality of Copy Categories and Resources Lists is that Copy Categories allows you to put individual copies of a title into a list; resource lists put all copies of a title into a list.! Search the catalog for items associated with your site's Reading Program.! Discuss the process for how to update quizzes associated with your site's reading programs.! 109 Downloading Reading Program Info! After you have uploaded the AR/RC quiz information, select the applicable radio button from step 2. When ready, click on the Download button. Your results will be sent to the Job Manager.! The delete all quizzes of the selected program before updating check box is used when you have duplicate quiz information. This option will delete all of the existing quizzes in your database and replace them with the information in the quiz download. 109
