4 An even skin tone makes you glow! Wrinkles, dryness wrinkles, but also pigmented patches make the skin look older. A consistent, even skin tone makes the skin look fresher, more energetic and younger. The Blanchess line by Henriëtte Faroche is designed for antiageing and reduces and prevents pigmented patches.

5 How are pigmented patches formed? UV rays from sunlight activate the pigment cells in the skin to form melanin, which gives the skin an even tan. By producing melanin, the skin protects itself from UV radiation. If this process is disrupted by, for example, free radicals, hormonal changes (due to pregnancy, menopause, anticonception pill), the use of certain medicines, stress, skin trauma (scars, wounds, acne) or light-sensitive creams, this can cause pigment to topically accumulate in the skin. The result: pigmented patches. In other words, pigmented patches are formed because the skin produces too much pigment in certain areas due to sun exposure. Pigmented spots are commonly seen in areas that have been exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck and hands. The more the skin is exposed to UV radiation, the more pigmented patches may develop. As pigmented patches usually become visible at an older age (the older the skin, the more prone to UV damage), they are therefore often wrongfully called age spots.

6 Types of pigmented patches There are different types of pigmented patches and the treatment is versatile. Depending on the type of pigmentation, the skin type and disposition, treatment may lead to good results. Pigmented patches are not hereditary and normal pigmented areas are generally harmless. If the pigmented areas begin to itch, change colour or size, consult a specialist. Pigmented patches (age spots) Age spots are the most common form of hyperpigmentation. They are caused by skin damage or skin ageing and appear on the face, neck and hands. Creams and peelings can be used to lighten the skin. Birthmarks These marks occur deep under the skin and have the potential to develop into malignant cancers. When there is doubt about the nature of the mark, it will be surgically removed. Flat pigmented patches that remain normal can also be treated in other ways.

7 Melasma (pregnancy mask) Melasma is characterised by large patches on the face and is generally subject to hereditary and hormonal factors. Darkening of the skin often occurs on the upper lip, forehead and cheeks. This form of hyperpigmentation requires the most patience. The condition is traditionally treated with creams and peelings. Pigmented scars Recent scars should not be exposed to UV rays in order to avoid pigment changes. The skin may benefi t from treatment with creams and peelings but, as with all pigmented patches, this is strongly dependent on the type of pigmented spots. Dark pigmented circles around the eyes Bad blood circulation around the eyes may cause dark pigmented circles around the eyes. Some skin types, such as Mediterranean and Asian skin, are also more prone to developing dark circles. Creams and peelings often offer relief. Here too, patience is required.

8 Blanchesse whitening assortment The result of treatment of pigmented areas depends greatly on the nature of the condition. The products from the Blanchesse line can be used to treat current areas of discolouration and prevent new areas from appearing while enhancing the overall skin tone. Effectively reduces dark patches, age spots, sun damage and depigmentation due to acne scarring. Pigment production in the skin is decreased. The fi rst results are already visible after 4-6 weeks. Blanchesse spot corrector does not contain hydroquinone. Apply topically twice a day after cleansing. Leave to work before fi nishing off with Blanchesse whitening moisturizing 24h cream.
