Explanation of Symbols Thermal Efficiency Part L (Scottish Part J) New build dwellings are required to achieve a certain level of thermal performance. From 2006 the Regulations were updated to include extension and refurbishment projects. U-Value is a measure of a material s thermal performance. The lower the number the more thermally efficient the material. In the context of these Regulations a U-Value is given to a door, frame and weather seals together as a complete installed unit. In most cases a U-Value of less than 2.00 W/m 2 K will be required for a Part L project. The equivalent Regulation in Scotland is Part J which requires a U-Value of 1.8 W/m 2 K or less. Please refer to your architect or local building control body for full details before commencing work. Where a U-Value is attributed to one of our doors it is assumed it will be installed correctly in a standard frame with weather seals. Low E glass In order to meet Regulations some of our Part L and Part J doors are glazed with low emissivity (Low E) glass. This is coated to help maximise thermal efficiency. Due to the nature of the advanced coating you may notice a haze or hint to the glass from certain angles and in certain lighting conditions. Mobility Access Part M Part M of the Building Regulations relating to access to and use of buildings, requires lower sills and wider doors. British Standard Toughened Glazing Doors with this symbol are pre-glazed with toughened glass impact tested to BS6206 Class A, or BS:EN 12150/ FSC Certification 1996 Forest Stewardship Council A.C. The FSC logo identifies products which contain wood from well managed forests certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council. 22 Fire Doors Fire Doors Most of the time a fire door is just like any other door. But if a fire breaks out, it performs a vital and specific task by burning at a particular rate to act as a barrier to hold back the spread of the blaze. All our Fire doors are subject to rigorous regulation, testing and certification to meet both UK and EU requirements to ensure that in the event of a fire, it does what it is supposed to do. All Wickes Fire Doors are certified to 30 minutes when fitted in accordance with the Fire Door Safety and Installation Guide provided with each door. Intumescent materials play a major role in restricting fire and smoke spreading, reducing incidences of death and injury and reducing property damage. You must therefore, install an Intumescent Strip ( ) to seal your door frame. Internal fire doors are often specified in new builds, loft conversions, shared occupancy buildings and between a house and an integral garage. Consult your architect or local building control body before commencing work. 23 Fire Doors With any Fire Door you should consider the hardware you use. You will definitely need to install Intumescent Strips, either in the frame or the edge of the door. You may also need to consider a fire-rated closer and hinges depending on the circumstances. Please refer to your architect or local building control body for full details before commencing work. We offer exterior doors in a variety of options to make sure you can find a door to meet your needs. In many styles we offer pre-hung options which are easier to install. They are supplied fitted in perfect alignment in the frame and are pre-fitted with multi-point locking systems*.
