9 Door finishes Veneers Allgood Appart can offer a variety of different door veneers to suit any interior design. Below are examples of the type of veneers that can be provided: Ash Beech Cherry Ebony Maple Oak Walnut Wenge Zebrano Doors can be supplied with a choice of crown cut or quarter cut veneer. In addition, every veneer is available fitted either vertically or horizontally. Door leaves are also available with differing finishes to each door leaf face with alternative veneer inlays. Laminated and paint grade A wide range of laminated doors can be supplied from any of the Formica or Polyrey laminate ranges. Allgood Appart can also supply paint grade doors either primed ready to finish on site or pre-finished prior to delivery. Foil wrapped Allgood Appart foil wrapped finish is the entry level housing type door finish. A standard range of vertical grain veneers are available as follows: Ash Beech Cherry Oak Walnut Sustainability Allgood have developed an Environmental Management System in accordance with BS EN 14001:1996, based on a firm Environmental Policy. As a result, doors and door sets can be specified using raw timber materials that are procured from well-managed and sustainable sources, independently certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Acrovyn Acrovyn is a durable, laminated finish designed to withstand constant daily abuse. The patented Acrovyn laminate will not tear, chip or crack and is twice as resistant to abrasion than high pressure laminate and five times more resistant than wood. Acrovyn is rigourously tested to stand up to constant abuse. Available in many colours, Allgood Appart supply Acrovyn doors in a post form format, with rounded door edges and the joins hidden underneath the door seal or intumescent, providing a clean aesthetic. 7

Whether it be a simple latched door or a double fire door set, Allgood Appart have the expertise to specify everything which is required to make the door function correctly, every time. Fully equipped to provide any specialist door design or function, Allgood Appart provide fully tested door sets that adhere to the guidelines set out by Secured by Design with PAS 24 door sets, ensuring that your door sets are fit for purpose and fully tested. There will always be requirements for fire doors on a project. Allgood Appart can provide 30, 60, 90 and 120 minute fire doors with a varied selection of intumescent and smoke seals to fulfil any specific requirements for fire integrity. Door lippings Highlighted below are two standard types of door lippings that Allgood Appart can supply on doors: Vision panels Allgood Appart can provide a whole host of different glazed vision panels into the door, providing visibility through the door to avoid collisions with users on the other side. Acoustic doors By using the correct acoustic perimeter and drop seals, Allgood Appart can provide door sets with an acoustic rating of up to 38db as standard. 13 Pre-hung door sets Pre-hung door sets The beauty of having Allgood Appart door sets pre-hung before delivery to site means that less time is needed on site to fit the door set. Easy installation The door set arrives to site already pre-hung and complete with frame and architrave. Installation is made simple as the steps below indicate: 1) Fit the brackets supplied to the frame, 4no L brackets to each leg and one in the head (optional) to the opening side of the set, 3no flat brackets to each leg (protruding) on the recess side. 2) Offer up the set to the opening ensuring it is plumb and level, then screw fix all brackets with suitable screws. 3) Remove bracing and top fixing bracket, open door and pass through, bend and fix protruding brackets. 4) Ensure the door opens and closes correctly and all tolerances are correct, if there is any door rattle use strike plate adjuster or move door stop as appropriate. 5) On fire rated door sets ensure that any gap between the frame and wall is filled. If the gap is over 6mm, Rockwool or equivalent must be used. If under 6mm an intumescent mastic is suitable. 6) Place architrave on a flat surface and assemble using plastic grommets supplied. 7) Run a line of adhesive and push the architrave in to position. Tack nail to hold whilst the adhesive sets, repeat on reverse face of door set. Note: Clips supllied with MDF frame option only. 11

15 Frames and architraves Frame construction and finish Allgood Appart can supply door sets with frames and architraves to suit. There are various options to choose from with regards to frame construction and finish: Frame construction: Metal frame Hard wood Soft wood MDF Frame finish: Primed Painted Veneered Laminated Foil wrapped Acrovyn Flat pack architraves Allgood Appart architraves are supplied to site flat packed and ready to be installed. The architrave consists of 3 pieces on either side of the door which are fixed together using the supplied Hoffman clips, forming the architrave with a minimum of fuss. Architrave free detail If you would prefer door sets without architraves, Allgood Appart can provide the frame detail to suit. By providing a matching piece of packing timber to the frame, it allows the door set to be installed flush with adjoining walls with a minimal shadow gap. Easy installation Once the architraves have been erected, the installation cannot be simpler. The door set frame has a groove around the perimeter into which the architrave slots, leaving the architrave to be fixed permanently into place with adhesive. 17 Pre-delivery morticing Pre-delivery morticing A key benefit of Allgood Appart door sets is the fact that all non-protruding ironmongery items are morticed and installed into the door set before delivery to site. By doing this before delivery, Allgood Appart can reduce on site installation costs and ensure that the ironmongery is fitted to the closest of tolerances. Preparation for protruding items As well as morticing and installing all non-protruding ironmongery items before delivery, we also prepare our door sets with drillings and cutouts that are required on the door for protruding ironmongery items. Not only does this ensure that protruding ironmongery items are not damaged in transit, it means that the door is delivered to site ready to fit any protruding items eliminating the need for any door preparation on site. 15

21 Door set options Residential door sets The choice of door sets for use in a residential application is mainly due to the aesthetic within the interior design of the residence. Allgood Appart can supply door sets in a variety of different veneers to suit accordingly. In addition, a choice of flush or panelled door sets can be provided to meet the design that is required. Consideration must be given to the function of the door. The following door set types are used most frequently: Latched doors Bathroom doors Entrance doors including PAS 24 Cupboard doors Circulation doors Pocket doors (page 49) PAS 24 PAS 24 is recognised by Secured By Design as a method of testing a door set assembly to the minimum level of security. Tests are carried out on a complete door set in its frame with identified points of attack within the specification. Security professionals highlight the cylinder as a vulnerable part of a door set, including the surrounding hardware that operates a morticed or multipoint locking mechanism. Under section A.11 of PAS 24, along with controlled mechanical loadings, there is provision to attack the cylinder and surrounding hardware using a set of specified tools in an attempt to gain entry through the door. Most traditional cast and pressed backplates are lightweight and hollow, making them easily removable from a door, giving access to the vulnerable cylinder. Allgood Appart backplates are manufactured like no other. The fact they are fully machined from a solid base material combined with hardened steel lugs and security fixings, gives a much stronger construction than the traditional cast and pressed products. When tested to PAS 24-1 section A.11 the new handles surpassed the standard and achieved consistently excellent results. There is an established need for the following grades of door sets in health buildings, as set out in HTM 58, the guidance document on internal door sets in NHS applications: Heavy duty Severe duty Fire-resisting Fire-resisting with smoke containment Smoke containment X-ray resisting Selection of the correct door set should be based upon the functional requirements and the frequency of use of the door. Acrovyn finish Doors in healthcare environments are subjected to a high level of use and abuse, especially from wheeled traffic, that typically ends in the door becoming damaged and requiring costly repair or replacement. In healthcare applications, Allgood Appart recommend the use of Acrovyn, a durable, laminated finish. Vision panels The selection of glazing in doors for healthcare projects should be based on considerations of observation and safety, for example, the need to avoid collision between users approaching the door from opposite sides. Bear in mind that users may be adults or children, ambulant or in wheelchairs, and in the case of staff, may be carrying objects or pushing mobile equipment. Allgood Appart can provide suitable solutions from a range of varying vision panel designs. The designs below are a selection of Approved Document M compliant panels: Clear opening widths With high frequency of traffic through healthcare door sets, it is important to ensure that the effective clear width through a doorway complies with the recommendations of BS 8300:2001.
