2 What is a Condensate? Boiler generate steam from water for Process Heating. After System has given up its Heat to the process, it condenses back into water. This water is still Hot. And as a consequence of its origin, It is essentially distilled water. This Condensate must feed again to the boiler through the Condensate lifting unit.
3 Why Condensate must be recovered? Condensate contains a fair amount of Heat. At 3.5 KG/cm2 (G) contains approximately 144 KCAL of heat per Kg of condensate. If this hot water is fed back to the boiler. It reduces the amount of heat required to the Heat it back to the saturation temperature. For every 6o C rice in feed water temperature will increase the boiler efficiency by 1%. This means that the fuel consumption of the boiler will reduce. As we know that condensate is almost pure water, it is excellent boiler feed water from a chemical point of view. Conti.
4 Why Condensate must be recovered? As condensate has lower TDS value. The return condensate to the feed tank reduces the effective feed water TDS. And due to that it reduces the blow down losses in the Boiler. As condensate is returned to boiler feed water it reduces the amount of makeup water and also reduces cost of water treatment and effluent treatment.

6 Why Steam operated pump must be used instead of Electrically operated? Presently in every industry condensate collected in the collection tank and there after it is being pumped by conventional electrically operated centrifugal pumps. In this process 5-10 oc temperature reduce as condensate is stored in collection tank. While in system operated pump condensate is pumped as soon as it fills is the pumping vessel. So there is not significant temperature drop. Conventional electrically operated centrifugal pump consume electricity while steam operated pump consumes only2-3 kg of steam per tonn of condensate pumped. This is very less in comparison to electricicty consumed per tonn of condensate. Conti.
7 Why Steam operated pump must be used instead of Electrically operated? Conventional electrically operated centrifugal pumps require frequent maintenance, while steam operated pumps have only moving part which is fit and forgot type. Conventional electrically operated centrifugal pumps faces the problem of dry running due to high vapor presure while steam operated pumps will never have this problems. Conventional electically operated centrifugal pumps faces the cavitations and pitting problems while steam operated pumps will never have this problem. Conti
8 Why Steam operated pump must be used instead of Electrically operated? In most cases the initial cost of conventional pump systems is higher than the steam operated one. ( For more than 5 TPH.)
9 Operating Principle Total four part process. 1. Filling Mode 2. Pre-pumping mode 3. Pumping Mode 4. Post-pumping mode
10 Operating Principle 1. Pumping Mode Condensate from process will be collected in the Condensate Receiver Tank and due to Gravity It will Open the Inlet Check Valve and starts filling the pump. By this time Steam inlet Valve is closed and Vent Outlet Valve is Open so there is no Back Pressure. This will lead the Float rising from level L to level H.
11 Operating Principle 2. Pre-pumping mode As Float reaches to Level H Logic Control Unit Shutoff the Vent Valve and Open the Steam Inlet Valve. This will allow the Pressurized steam to move in the pump & push the water level in downward direction. By this time Delivery Check Valve will be open & Inlet Check Valve will be Shutoff.
12 Operating Principle 3. Pumping Mode High pressure steam will push the condensate to Delivery line. This will lift the condensate to main condensate receiver tank. This pumping mode will remain until the Float reaches level L.
13 Operating Principle 4. Post-pumping mode As Float reaches the level L Logic Control Unit Shut off Steam motive valve and Opens Vent valve to remove the gases. By this time Delivery check valve will be closed and Inlet check valve will be opened which again allow the condensate to fill the pump.
