We have a few changes in office and teaching staff that I want to share with you. They will be joining the Bo Manor family and helping us prepare your children for the future through rigorous and relevant instruction and strong character-building. Core classes will run approximately 65 minutes, and Fine Arts/PE classes will be 45 minutes each. Individual schedules will be distributed to students during 6th Grade Orientation or on the first day of school for all other students. We encourage all incoming 6th graders to attend Orientation on August 19th at 6:00 p.m. so they can get another chance to find their classrooms before school begins. All 7th and 8th graders will be directed to their homeroom classes on the first day. Student homeroom lists will be posted around the school for each grade. We ask that parents look at the school supply list in this newsletter and provide the required items for their children. Please notify the guidance department if this places a financial burden on your family, and they will work with you. Finally, we will be updating our school web page and including a shared calendar for students and parents this year. As the year progresses we will be adding dates of events to it. *Please note there will be no 8th grade dance this year, as it does not align with county middle school philosophy. Bohemia Manor Middle School is always in need of parent support. If you would like to serve on any of the following committees or donate your time, please call our office. 2 A SSISTANT PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Bohemia Manor Middle School Bohemia Manor Community, Hello! I am excited to have this opportunity to work at Bohemia Manor Middle School. I have heard many wonderful things about the community and the school. I look forward to meeting and working with all members of the community this year and in the future. I have spent my last 12 years teaching in Cecil County at Bay View and Leeds Elementary. I began my career in special education and transitioned into a general education teacher. Throughout my career, I have had experiences with all elementary grades and now look forward to working with students at the middle school level. As we evolve into the school year, I would like to welcome all new students and their families to Bo Manor Middle School. Please take a few minutes to read through the newsletter for information regarding the school. Throughout the year, I encourage you to visit our school website for important dates and times of events that will be taking place. Our North Bay trip has been scheduled for September 14 through September 17, Information about the 6 th Grade trip to North Bay was sent home with students during Jump Start. If your child did not attend Jump Start and you would like the information prior to the start of school please stop in the main office to pick up the forms. Forms are also available for download on our website. If your child would like to request roommates for North Bay, they must complete the red request for roommates form. While we make every attempt to accommodate requests, we cannot guarantee students will get any or all of their choices. School Supply Purchasing Program Cecil County Public Schools has arranged with Office- Max to allow parents the option of purchasing school supplies online at the same discounted volume rate used by CCPS with free shipping. This feature has been provided as a convenience to parents. For more information please visit Business-Services/Portal/ccps-school-supply-program. The middle school supply list can be found on the last page of this newsletter and on our website. Reminder!!! Your child s safety is our first concern! Students remaining in school after dismissal must be under the direct supervision of a teacher and have a parent note giving permission to stay. Please do NOT allow your child to stay after school for a sporting event later in the evening without supervision. Furthermore, students are not permitted to leave school property then return if they are staying for a school function. Page 2

3 PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) BMMS is a PBIS school. Our students are taught about behavioral expectations, and are rewarded for demonstrating positive behaviors, from the first day they enter our building. Specifically, we wish to recognize our students for their efforts to Live the Manor Motto: Show Respect, Show Responsibility, and Show Cooperation. Students are recognized by receiving Bo Bucks from any staff member, which will be used in weekly drawings for fun prizes, such as sporting goods, food, games, and many others. Also, students can earn a large-group incentive at the end of each marking period (green zone days) if we reach our goals. Grade levels can accumulate Peace Days and earn a reward. For each day that a grade level goes without any office referrals, they earn a Peace Day. Rewards, such as ice cream, pizza, pretzels, student versus staff game, and movies, are earned after a certain number of Peace Days have accumulated. Students can keep track of their total Peace Days in the cafeteria where a bulletin board shows where each grade level stands. Please support our efforts by asking your students about the bucks they have earned. We are also always interested in parent participation in planning our PBIS rewards and events. If you are interested in serving as a parent representative, or have any items that you would like to donate for student and/or staff drawings, please contact Matthew Wharton at mwharton@ccps.org. Any items such as age-appropriate toys, games, apparel, and gift cards are very much appreciated. What Is School Cash Online? You will need to have your students ID number available when you register. **Twilight School** We will continue to offer additional assistance for students during our Twilight School program again this year. Twilight School is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Twilight offers students the opportunity to make up work, re-take quizzes or tests, and possibly receive additional assistance from certified teachers. In order for students to participate in Twilight School, THEY MUST HAVE BEEN REFERRED BY A TEACHER, COUNSELOR, OR ADMINISTRATOR. The process for a student to participate typically takes 24 hours to allow for work to be gathered. Transportation may be provided to several centrally located sites in Elkton, Brantwood, Hacks Point, and Cecilton. Parents will be responsible for transporting students from these sites if the student uses the bus. Schedule Alert!!! Schedule Alert!! Schedule Alert!!! This year our schedule will rotate on a weekly basis, and we want to make sure parents are aware well ahead of time. If you do not receive your information by August 14th please call our transportation department at In addition, please take the time to review with your student the Parent Guide that will be sent home during the first few days of school. PowerSchool Parents interested in viewing their students grades and attendance on-line will need to register for PowerSchool. If you have previously registered with PowerSchool, all login information will remain the same and will be transferred to BMMS automatically. Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding PowerSchool or Parent Portal. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 is Thursday, August 20, Student cell phones must be turned off and remain in locker during the school day. Student supplies should be replenished periodically during the school year.
