What your community, church and friends think of you they think of all of Mary Kay. Mary Kay Image is a code of ethics that we strive to uphold by the words we say, the way we treat others around us, and the way we present ourselves. One of the most important parts of your professional attire is your SMILE and POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

5 MARY KAY S LEGACY One of the precious qualities God gave us is our femininity. I truly believe He made us feminine for a reason, and we should always strive to maintain our femininity There s no reason for a successful woman to behave like a man Men respect a woman who retains her femininity and they respond more favorably to her if she presents an attractive appearance When I stress dressing in an attractive, feminine way, I don t mean wearing sexy clothing. A career woman should always dress in a businesslike manner. I am, for example, adamantly opposed to women wearing slacks on the job We are in the business of helping women look more feminine and beautiful, so we feel very strongly that our Beauty Consultants should dress accordingly

6 MARY KAY S LEGACY We suggest they always wear dresses or [skirted] suits to skin care classes, and we also emphasize well-groomed hair and nails. After all, can you imagine a woman with her hair up in curlers, wearing jeans, calling herself a Beauty Consultant and trying to tell other women what they should be doing to look good? Those women would have to think, What in the world can she possibly tell me about looking beautiful? We want our Beauty Consultants to be the kind of women other women want to emulate. We re selling femininity, so our dress has to be ultra-feminine. Mary Kay Ash Miracles Happen

7 MARY KAY S LEGACY Mary Kay never held back when she talked about principles, image, and traditions and I believe her standards still hold true. If you have to ask the question, then you probably already know the answer.

When the rest of America was saying dress like a man to make it in business, Mary Kay was saying dress like a lady and STILL make it in business. 10 WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE At the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, England, 300 people were shown images of women in navy pantsuits and skirts, their faces blurred, and asked to rate them on five criteria: confidence, success, trustworthiness, salary and flexibility. The volunteers were only given a few seconds, but if a "snap judgment" is meaningful -- and research says it is -- skirts are the better choice if women want to impress their co-workers The study's conclusion could be seen as regressive, as women who wear more ladylike, leg-flashing clothing are favored over women who choose to break down those norms. On the other hand it shows that women can dress in a feminine manner and achieve workplace respect. This supposedly contradicts past research that says that women should dress more like men to be successful in a traditionally male domain.

11 WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE THE HAIRSTYLE YOU NEED The first thing to focus on is your hairstyle because it is visible every day and is a subtle indication of your integrity.. Believe it or not, subliminally, your hairstyle speaks volumes about your trustworthiness and integrity to your clients. KEEP YOUR JACKET ON The next most important thing a female professional can do for her image is make sure that she is wearing a jacket in order to project authority and competence. 12 WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE UP THE CAREER LADDER, LIPSTICK IN HAND Wearing makeup increases people s perceptions of a woman s likability, her competence and (provided she does not overdo it) her trustworthiness, according to a new study. Dr. Vickery, whose Ph.D. is in chemistry, added that cosmetics can significantly change how people see you, how smart people think you are on first impression, or how warm and approachable, and that look is completely within a woman s control. Up the career ladder, lipstick in hand. New York Times A study in the American Economic Review said women who wear make-up can earn more than 30 percent more in pay than non makeup wearing workers.

14 MARY KAY EVENT ATTIRE Skirt/dress, blazer/jacket, hosiery, and closed-toed or peep-toed shoes are suggested. Skirts/dresses should be business fit and length. Avoid tank tops, halters, and low-cut blouses. Even though it is warm during the summer, tank tops and halters do not look professional. You don't need a huge wardrobe. I highly recommend becoming a member of the black and white club... you can get a white blouse and black skirt and wear it to everything.. You can find some great clothes that are very affordable. You will then be ready to add your HOT new Red Jacket to your outfit!

15 MARY KAY EVENT ATTIRE (CONT.) Wear Mary Kay professional attire (with hosiery!) to all Company Events (Seminar and Career Conference) and City-Wide Guest Events and Workshops. Hosiery is highly recommended for success meetings in order to maintain your professional image especially in front of your attending guests. If you choose to not wear hosiery during the summer, please no sandals or flip flops, and don t forget pedicured toes and great, subtly-tanned legs. When in doubt, always opt for hosiery. Always wear hosiery with Director Suit/Red Jacket.

16 MARY KAY DAILY BUSINESS ATTIRE Skirts and dresses are always the professional look when working your Mary Kay business: sales appointments, deliveries, interviews, Mary Kay functions. For your Mary Kay daily business attire, hosiery is optional. All travel to and from Mary Kay events (plane or car) should also be in skirted attire. Pants, shorts or slacks are not appropriate unless specified for a casual or rustic event by your Independent Sales Director or Independent National Sales Director.

17 ALCOHOL AT PARTIES & EVENTS Mary Kay asked that alcohol not be served or consumed at any Mary Kay Party or Event. The Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant should not offer wine or other forms of alcohol to guests at her parties or events. If a hostess chooses to serve wine to her own guests, we ask that she waits until the presentation is complete. You should not accept any alcohol offered to you by the hostess. You are working - so tell her so - and kindly decline. Always better to encourage your hostess to offer non-alcoholic options after her party instead.
