September is the traditional time in the U.S. when people set new academic goals and begin new challenges. It s a great time to improve your English! Did you know that English is spoken in more countries of the world than any other language?* As you become fluent in English, you will improve your chances of success in your personal life, your community, your career and communicating in a global world. Our Fall Semester classes begin September 7, You can study in the Intensive English Program (daytime); Community (evenings and Saturdays); Bridge to University and Professional Success Program; or our Individualized Study Plans and Tutoring Program with one of our expert instructors. We have classes for new beginners, advanced learners, professional people and everyone in between. As always, our great teachers will help you achieve your goals. TESTING for SATURDAY CLASSES session i Saturday September 10 8:30-9:30 a.m. Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. immediately after testing of new students. session ii Saturday October 29 8:30-9:30 a.m. Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. immediately after testing of new students. JUNGYOON YOON, Seoul, South Korea I am studying at FSU English Language Programs to prepare for my enrollment in a Dental Program. The teachers here are very helpful and enthusiastic. Apart from all the academic support, teachers at FSU are always suggesting great books to read and interesting places to go. I have become more confident in communicating with others and have noticed improvement in my vocabulary and pronunciation skills. I have already started recommending this program to other people! 5.

6 INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM (IEP) DAY PROGRAM - MORNING CLASSES The Intensive English Program offers instruction in reading, speaking, grammar, vocabulary building, academic writing, pronunciation, TOEFL preparation, and content areas based on student interest. Framingham State University is accredited through New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. International students seeking an I-20, must contact the executive director of International Education, Jane Decatur at jdecatur@framingham.edu. MORNING CORE CLASSES START: SEPTEMBER 7 END: DECEMBER 8 Monday/Wednesday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. $1520 Friday 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Courses meet 7.5 hours/weekly Reading, Writing, and Grammar (Basic / Intermediate / Advanced) Students enrolled in 15 hours or more per week are eligible for up to 4 hours of free tutoring and receive access to the FSU Athletic Center. F-1 visa students must enroll for at least 18 hours of study per week. Students with no prior English training should sign up for introductory tutoring (see page 11). Tuesday/Thursday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. $1520 Friday 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Courses meet 7.5 hours/weekly Listening and Speaking (Basic / Intermediate / Advanced) PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE FOR MOST CLASSES Ask for more information when you register. AFTERNOON FOCUS CLASSES START: SEPTEMBER 7 END: DECEMBER 8 Monday/Wednesday 12:45-2:45 p.m. $640 Essential English for Academic Success (Basic) Improving Pronunciation, Vocabulary, and Reading (Intermediate / Advanced) Strategies for Success on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (Advanced) Tuesday/Thursday 12:45-2:45 p.m. $640 Conversation, American Culture, and Cinema (Basic / Intermediate) Communication Skills and Public Speaking (Intermediate / Advanced) Preparation Essentials for the TOEFL (Advanced) FLAVIO SALVIANO, Goiânia, Brazil My goal after English study is to apply for an MBA program at an American university. The teachers at FSU are very good and knowledgeable and make you work very hard. They identify each student s weaknesses and work on improving those skills. Apart from daily class activities, I have also enjoyed participating in different projects and lectures organized by the ESL program. 7.

8 COMMUNITY ESL CLASSES EVENING PROGRAM Our evening program offers five levels of study as well as intermediate and advanced content courses. Students can study 4 or 8 hours a week. EVENING CLASSES START: SEPTEMBER 7 END: DECEMBER 8 Monday/Wednesday 7:00-9:00 p.m. $450 Courses meet 4 hours/weekly Community English as a Second Language classes. Levels 1-5. Curriculum includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills all in one class. (Basic to Advanced) Focus on Grammar, Writing and Speaking (Intermediate) Focus on Improving Pronunciation and Grammar (Advanced) MAURICIO AGUILAR, Retalhuleu, Guatamala I have lived in the U.S. for 15 years and finally I decided to study English at FSU because I would like to be promoted to management at my job. This program has great teachers who help you achieve your goals. I can communicate better with everyone and my vocabulary and writing has really improved. I am very glad that I quit making excuses about studying English because now I can see the improvement and I believe I will achieve my goal! 8. Tuesday/Thursday 7:00-9:00 p.m. $450 Courses meet 4 hours/weekly Community English as a Second Language classes. Levels 1-5. Curriculum includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills all in one class. (Basic to Advanced) Focus on Communication and Public Speaking Skills (High Intermediate / Advanced) Focus on Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Advanced) Focus on English, Business, and Communication Skills (Advanced) Students should expect to pay an average of $50 per class for textbooks.

9 COMMUNITY ESL CLASSES SATURDAY PROGRAM SATURDAY CLASSES SESSION I - START: SEPTEMBER 10 END: OCTOBER 15 SESSION II - START: OCTOBER 29 END: DECEMBER 10 Saturday 8:30* a.m.-12:30 p.m. $225/Session Focus on Conversation and Writing (Basic) Focus on Pronunciation and Grammar (Intermediate) Focus on Reading and Writing Fundamentals (Intermediate) Focus on Conversation and Pronunciation (Advanced) Focus on Essentials for Advanced English Writing Skills Session 1 only (Advanced) Focus on Building Content Skills for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Session 1 only (Advanced) Focus on Effective English Writing Techniques Session 2 only (Advanced) Focus on Test Taking Strategies for the TOEFL Session 2 only (Advanced) *Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. on 9/10 and 10/29 to allow time for testing new students. 10 BRIDGE TO UNIVERSITY and PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS Clear communication is essential for advanced level academic, professional and everyday life success. TRANSITION COURSES BRIDGE to UNIVERSITY and PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS START: SEPTEMBER 7 END: DECEMBER 8 Monday/Wednesday 6:45-9:15 p.m. $700 Courses meet 5 hours/weekly Transitions 10: Writing, Research, and Presentations (Advanced) Transition Courses are the Bridge to Clear Communication for professional, academic, and personal success. Sign up for a Transitions Course if you are an advanced level English learner and you re ready to give yourself the edge toward greater success. You will learn pronunciation techniques, how to give dynamic presentations, how to write academic or professional papers, letters, and s that communicate your proficiency with English and knowledge of American culture. 10. Tuesday/Thursday 6:45-9:15 p.m. $700 Courses meet 5 hours/weekly Transitions 11: Advanced Pronunciation, Interview and Presentation Skills (Advanced) PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE FOR MOST CLASSES Ask for more information when you register. 11 TUTORING OPTIONS Tutoring can help you to advance your skills to the next level of Clear Communication for Success. SPECIALIZED STUDY Individualized English Language Study Plan. 14 hours $ hours $1960 TUTORING OPTIONS Meet one-to-one with a skillful, highly trained instructor. Per hour $75 Block of 10 hours $700 SPECIALIZED TUTORING For all English learners: Professionals and executives, international students, and community members at any level of learning. Get help with accent modification, preparing for the TOEFL (or other exams), grammar, writing, conversation skills, or business and technical writing and speaking. INTENSIVE PROGRAM TUTORING Students enrolled in the Intensive English Program, 15 hours or more per week, are eligible for up to 4 hours of free individualized tutoring. INTRODUCTORY TUTORING Intensive Program students who have never studied English before should register for Introductory Tutoring. Study one-to-one with an instructor for the first 3 weeks of the semester until conversation skills improve, then integrate into the basic level intensive classes. Regular tutoring fees apply and class tuition will be pro-rated. YANRU ZHANG, Henan, China I am studying English at FSU because I want to open my own international business someday. The teachers and the program here are very good. I love to come to my English classes every day because I receive a lot of encouragement and help. My English has improved a lot!
