3 Choose Your Action Plan 1. College Credit Certificate Option....see page 5 This is your plan if... You are just interested in learning about entrepreneurship, and may or may not decide later to pursue a two-year Associates in Arts Degree, but just want the basic skills of an entrepreneur. Enroll for the courses in the ENTREPRENEURSHIP CERTIFICATE 12 credit hour one semester program OR, You are a committed student, and may or may not decide later to pursue a two-year Associates in Arts Degree, but want to learn everything possible about being an entrepreneur. You take all eight courses (25 credit hours) and earn the CERTIFICATE IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP OPERATIONS. If you then decide to pursue a two-year associates degree, the credits already earned may satisfy course requirements and transfer to the college or university of your choice. 2. College Degree Options (Two year Associates Degree Entrepreneurship Programs).... see pages 6-7 This is your plan if... You are either already enrolled and/or intend to earn your two-year degree, then proceed to an upper division college or university to pursue a Bachelor in Arts Degree (BA). Either or both of the Certificate Programs above may become part of your two-year Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) Degree as a concentration in Business Entrepreneurship. Or, you may just want to take specific entrepreneurship courses of your choice. There is no prerequisite for any of the entrepreneurship courses, however a course sequence has been established (see pages 6-7) and it is recommended that you consult with an advisor or the instructor before attempting the Capstone Course, ENT 2112 Business Plans. Consult the college catalog for specific core course transfer requirements for both AA and AS Degrees. There are 24 Elective Credit Hours in the AA Degree and 22 Elective Credit Hours in the Business Administration AS Degree. Students pursuing either the AA or AS Degree should select electives based on common program prerequisites for the intended upper division major. A minimum of 15 credit hours in Entrepreneurship courses provides a concentration in Business Entrepreneurship. 3

8 Course Descriptions ENT 2000 Credits 3 Introduction to Entrepreneurship: This initial course provides an overview and practical applications of the various activities involved in owning and operating a small business enterprise. Students compile a portfolio on a potential business concept. ENT 2172 Credits 3 Opportunity Analysis and Franchising: This course builds decision skills by providing experience in actually managing a business. Students use a computer simulation to design, price, and promote a product for the marketplace against competition, while learning to identify opportunities and solve problems. In addition, Franchising is explored in depth from the perspective of the franchisor and franchisee. ENT 2302 Credits 3 Funding Acquisition and Legal Issues: Competencies and Learning outcomes are intended to provide a basic functional knowledge of the law, and the application required in the process of obtaining funds from various sources to start up and operate a small business. MAR 2011 Credits 3 Marketing Principles: This course is a survey of various contemporary marketing practices that have evolved in conjunction with changes in consumer behavior and buying practices. Market research, planning, strategy, and tactics are explored with ethical considerations and entrepreneurship infused within the four functions of marketing: Product, Place, Price, and Promotion. 9 Course Descriptions SBM 2000 Credits 3 Small Business Management: This course provides the student an opportunity to learn and practice hands on decision making of many of the key management issues, necessities, opportunities, and challenges faced by small family business entrepreneurs. MKA 1021 Credits 3 Principles of Selling: This course provides techniques utilized in the process of determining, activating and satisfying needs and wants of a buyer to mutual continuous benefit of both buyer and seller. Effective time management and presentation techniques are important inclusions. ENT 2112 Credits 3 Business Plans: This course is the program s capstone course. Competencies and Learning outcomes are intended to provide the skills necessary for students to prepare a functional business plan for use in all aspects of owning and operating a small business enterprise. An overview of project management operations is presented. ENT 2411 Credits 4 Small Business Accounting and Finance: This course is designed to perfect skills in record keeping and analyzing performance data for making sound decisions. It does not fulfill the complete accounting requirements for the Associate in Science degree. 10 Program and Networking Opportunities You will have access to the latest technology and software in a hands-on environment. You will meet successful Brevard County Entrepreneurs in the classroom to learn about their start-up companies, and exchange ideas In the classroom. You will meet national and regional Entrepreneurs who will bring real world stories about their experiences at the B. W. Simpkins Seminars for Entrepreneurial Development held each Spring and Fall semesters. You will join classmates in various team exercises and projects that will challenge your creativity and make learning new entrepreneurial skills fun. You can apply for a competitive Scholarship in Entrepreneurship awarded for the best new entrepreneurial idea each semester. You may attend numerous local, regional, and national conferences to practice your new business skills and gain new friends through community relationships. You may apply to join the Project Management Institute (PMI) Space Coast Chapter, which meets every two months. You will perform 20 hours of Field Studies (internship) through the Center for Service Learning in an organization directly related to your program. You will get a chance to actually create a product and run a company in an exciting computer simulation. You will perfect your presentation and research skills to a live audience of Investors. You will have the services of the BCC Career Center to help you get started in your new venture. 10
11 Program Cost and Fees U. S. Citizens pay a $30 one-time non-refundable BCC application/admissions fee. Florida residents pay low tuition. Example: one 3 credit hour college course costs less than $ Course Books are carefully selected to provide maximum impact at the lowest possible cost. Many are soft cover. You may pay inexpensive online fees for computer simulation software in a course or two. 15 How to Apply Admission Complete an application and submit it to the Admissions Office at the campus you will be attending. Applications are available online. Pay the one-time $30 BCC application fee at the Cashier s Office. Order official college and high school tran scripts to be sent to the campus housing your application.
