2 Meet The Beehive Children s Centre Team Michelle Hart (Centre Coordinator) Michelle manages the day-to-day running of the centre and coordinates the staff to meet the needs of the local community. Michelle is responsible for coordinating services alongside other local agencies and organisations, in order to provide universal early childhood services and support for parents and families from all backgrounds. Michelle also offers a range of family support including advice for housing, parenting, adult learning/further education and returning to work. Jennifer Henderson (Strategic Officer) As the Children s Centre Strategic Officer, Jennifer ensures the continued development of the overall service in order to help improve outcomes for parents/carers and children in the community. Jennifer plays a key role in matters including: self-evaluation, strategic planning and implementation, monitoring of services and updating cluster policies and procedures.. Emma Tasker (Receptionist and Administrator) Emma is the first point of contact at The Beehive and deals with a range of matters, including general enquires from all visitors and callers. Emma processes the Centre's registration forms and bookings for activities and also deals with a variety of other clerical duties for the Centre and others members of the team. Emma is also our website coordinator. Katie Soraghan (Play Worker) Katie s role is predominantly to support staff and parents at The Beehive during Stay and Play sessions. Katie will be running a variety of groups and sessions underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).These activities will enhance and support the learning journey of children under 5 socially, emotionally, physically and academically. James Braddon, Jessica Rolt and Katie Jeeves (Family Support workers) As Family Support Workers, Katie and James help local families in a variety of ways. Some examples of the kind of support available are: advice for positive parenting and managing children s behaviour, meeting with families face to face, at home or at the Children s Centre, guidance for parents wishing to return to education, employment or training, and running a variety of activities underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to support the learning journey of children under 5 socially, emotionally, physically & academically. Lauren Steel (Apprentice) Lauren is our new Apprentice and is working with us whilst studying at Central Bedfordshire College. Lauren will be supporting Centre staff at a variety of sessions such as Chattertots, Bumble Bees, Baby Bees, Explorer Bees, Active Bees and Cheeky Monkeys stay and play groups as well as helping with Creche provision for some sessions. Lynsey Salmasi (Social Worker) Lynsey will be working alongside the local family support team and Children s Centre staff to offer support and guidance to families across Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard. Helen Hircock (Early Years Teacher) Helen is our Early Years professional working at both the Beehive and Houghton Regis Children s Centres. Helen has a vital role guiding us with planning our Early Years Foundation Stage focused stay and play groups which is enabling us to help children with school readiness. Catherine Ward (Speech and Language Therapist) Catherine s role is to support staff and parents at The Beehive to develop language skills for under 5 s. Catherine visits some of the centres groups to offer advice to parents and also runs sessions on different areas of communication and ways to help children develop their language skills.

3 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Bromford Housing am A free weekly advisory service supporting local families with housing, financial, tenancy & budgeting needs. Young Mums To Be 9.30am pm A group for young and expectant parents with First Place Training, offering Level 1 accredited courses. Bumble Bees Stay & Play A fun drop-in session for children aged 12 to 48 months and their parents/carers per child. Salvation Army, Bullpond Lane, LU6 3AH CACHE L1 Health, Social Care & Early Years Please see Tuesday. Active Bees Stay & Play pm A physical and fun drop-in session for children aged months & their parents/carers* Dunstable Leisure Centre, Court Drive, LU5 4JD Baby Signing am Dates; 13 th January or 24 th February for 3 weeks. A three week course for parents/carers of babies 6-12 months old to introduce signing in a supportive group setting. Rhymetime 0-18 months am Songs, rhymes and musical instruments for children and their parents/carers. Free. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. CACHE L1 Health, Social Care & Early Years pm This 16 week course is run by Central Bedfordshire College free to those meeting the eligibility criteria* Job Centre Plus pm Helping the community get back to work or training. Bookings by appointment with the JC+ adviser. Baby Massage 5 week infant massage courses held regularly. Great for improving parent and child bonding as well as helping with colic and digestive problems. CALL THE CENTRE FOR MORE DETAILS, START DATES AND TIMES Baby Brasserie pm Free weekly drop-in for mums-tobe, mums, dads, & babies offering support & info on breastfeeding your baby. Refreshments provided. Cheeky Monkeys Stay & Play pm A fun stay & play drop-in for under fives and their parents/carers. Active play on the first week of each month per child over one year of age & 1.00 per adult. Eaton Bray Village Hall, Church Lane, LU6 2DJ Baby Clinic pm Free weekly drop-in session run by the local health team for baby weighing and advice. Thursday Friday Friday/continued New for 2015 Coffee Morning am Start date: 5 th February 2015 Come along for a cuppa and meet local families. Free (Small donations appreciated!). Westfield Road New for 2015 Honey Pots Stay & Play am Start date: 5 th February 2015 A drop-in stay & play group for mums/dads/carers and their children under two years of age. Songs, rhymes, arts & crafts and messy play. Westfield Road Moving On Up pm Date: 26 th February 26 th March Working with Westfield Nursery we are preparing 3 year olds for their start at Nursery. FREE. BOOKING ESSENTIAL Baby Bees 0-6 months am Free stay & play for babies and parents/carers to get to know each other. Explorer Bees 6-12 months 11.00am-12.00pm Stay & play for more mobile babies and their parents/carers. 50p per child. Teens & Tots pm Stay & play for all local young parents and their children. Games & activities including baby signing & pamper days. Lunch provided & donations welcome. Chattertots pm Dates: 16 th January-13 th February Free five-week communication group for children aged 16 to 40 months and their parents/carers. Small Talk pm Dates: 27 th February -27 th March Free five-week communication group for children aged 16 to 40 months and their parents/carers. Bump, Birth & Baby Stuff pm Dates: 9th January 13 th February 2015 Free five week ante-natal group for expectant mums & dads, run by local health professionals and children s centre staff. Lots of useful info & advice about pregnancy, birth & babies. Other sessions Weaning Talks Free sessions for parents/carers of babies between 4 & 6 months old. Information & advice from a health professional on introducing first foods. 9.30am-10.30am 5 th February or 9.30am-10.30am 23 rd March. First Aid Paediatric First Aid courses for families with children under five. Learn how to deal with minor injuries and accidents. BOOKING ESSENTIAL ( 5 for the course plus a 5 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT TO BE PAID IN ADVANCE) Call the centre for dates and times.

The programme is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) and is recommended within the local ADHD Care Pathway. Triple P Teen: The programme supports parents to improve relationships with their teenagers, reduce problem behaviour and to help their teenager to minimise or avoid risky situations with peers. 5 Coming soon to Dunstable North (The Beehive) Children s Centre We have more Antenatal classes planned for 2015 so if you are currently pregnant or fall pregnant during the year, keep your eyes peeled for one of our groups running regularly throughout the course of the year. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity to meet other expectant parents and gain some valuable advice and guidance about pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Partners are of course very welcome! Ring the Beehive for more details about times and dates. Do you have a child who is nearly two? Would you like to apply for a two year old funded nursery place? Then come along to our Centre or any one of our community based sessions and our friendly staff will give you any advice needed and/or complete the application paperwork for you. PLUS There is a free gift for each child that has applied via a Children s Centre which is not available from anywhere else! Do you have any questions or need any advice about your child s speech and language, diet and eating habits or learning and development? Then why not come along to see our specialist staff at their relaxed and friendly drop-in sessions as detailed below. There s no need to book, just call in to see them at the relevant venue! Our Early Years Teacher Helen Hircock will be joining us at Bumble Bees at Dunstable Salvation Army on Monday 9 th February and 9 th March 2015 from 9.45am-. Selina Shah will be running the Children s Dietician drop-in clinics at the Beehive on Fridays 30 th January and 6 th March 2015 from 10.00am-12.00pm. And lastly, Catherine Ward, our Speech and Language Therapist will be available for any questions and advice during Bumble Bee s on Mondays 19 th January, 16 th February and 16 th March 2015 from 9.45am-
