2 S e r v i c e s i n A l l C e n t r e s Get Involved! Toy Library Each centre has an extensive Toy Library for you to borrow toys for your child/children. All toys are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage and encourage play and learning with your child. The only cost is an initial joining fee of Please see the schedule for opening times at each centre. Family Outreach Each centre has a Family Outreach Worker who is available to support parents and carers to have the confidence to give their children the best start in life so that they continue to flourish and reach their full potential. Information, Advice & Guidance All centres have staff available to support you with information, advice and guidance on a range of issues including childcare, parenting, activities in the area, healthy eating and oral health. We also stock a wide range of leaflets and parenting books for you to borrow free of charge. FREE Internet Access Use our computers to find childcare, research benefit entitlement, search for jobs, look at learning resources for your children, access the internet, and much more. Bookstart Corner Every Centre has a Bookstart Corner where children and their parents can spend quiet time on the bean bags and cushions and share the joy of reading a book together. This is a great way for you to help your child with their communication, language and literacy. We also have some kit bags available for you to borrow and use at home to make dens and quiet spaces of your own. You can find out more about Bookstart by visiting Family Information Service - Warm Phone At our centre you can use our free telephone line to get in touch with the West Sussex Family Information Service. You can also contact them directly on Training Opportunities We offer you training opportunities, such as First Aid, Returning into work and Money Management. Speak to the centre staff to find out more or to register your interest in future courses. We treat all children and families with dignity and respect, recognising that everyone is different and individual. All services are developed and delivered ensuring equality of access for all. 3 Adult Education Courses Moving On Into Work Thinking of returning to work or going back to College to refresh your skills? Need help developing confidence and finding routes back onto volunteering and work? This 4 week course (one 2 hour session each week) will cover CV writing, interview skills and impact on benefits. Making the most of your Money This 2,5 hour workshop is about how benefit changes may affect you, how to make your money go further and how to avoid debt. Crèche places available. Impact Cookery A fun, interactive course which will enable you to cook healthy meals on a budget and give you great new recipe ideas for all the family. Crèche places available. Solihull Parenting Course Would you like to learn more about your child s development and meet other parents and carers? Would you like to understand more about your relationship with your children? Do you know why children have temper tantrums or sulk? Please call the team for a chat about the course. This is a 10 week course with one two hour session per week. Crèche places available. Baby Massage Baby massage is a way of forming meaningful and secure attachment with your baby, and developing a closer relationship whilst improving early communication. Suitable for babies 6 weeks to crawling. Crèche places available. By referral only from your Health Visitor. Essential First Aid for Parents Improve your confidence, skills and knowledge to keep your children safe. A course (a three hour session) will run in Mid Sussex bi-monthly throughout the year. For dates and venues please contact your local centre. Early Years Hub The Early Years Hub for Mid-Sussex is based at Sidney West Children & Family Centre. This centre provides specialist sign-posted support for young children with additional needs and their families. Please see our Guide of Services for Children with Additional Needs and their families, or ask a member of staff for more information. FREE BENEFITS ADVICE Do you have a child with a disability or additional needs and feel that you need some help and support to access the right DWP benefits? Aiming High and West Sussex County Council are funding a benefits advisor to offer help with DLA, Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, Housing Benefit, Employment Support Allowance, Tax Credits etc. We have a drop in session at Sidney West, where you can meet with Robert Hayes to discuss the above benefits. These will be on a Friday morning. Please contact the centre for dates. Burgess Hill Festival Teddy Bears Picnic Weds 11th June 2014; 12pm-3pm St Johns Park Fun, play and activities for the under-5s and their families including: library rhyme & story time, play on the sensory bus, pond dipping, the weird and wonderful creature corner, face painting, balloon modelling, sand, gloop and flubber, lots of crafty activities and much more.
