2 Newcomers Canada 2014 The Newcomers Canada Fair is part of Newcomers Canada and is Canada s only dedicated onshore exhibition targeting the combined Employment, Education, Immigration and Settlement needs of economic immigrants and international students that have chosen to make a new life in Canada. An overview of permanent residents in Canada In the year ending 2012, 257,515 people were classified by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) as being permanent residents in Canada, up from 248,751 in 2011 but down from 280,690 in Economic immigrants accounted for 160,617 of these permanent residents, an increase of 4,499 on % 0% 4% 5% About Newcomers Canada 38% Newcomers Canada is designed to support and improve outcomes for temporary foreign workers, newly granted permanent residents and international students by connecting them with employers and providers of education, immigration and settlement services in Canada. Newcomers Canada includes a series of domestic fairs as well as an online platform and job board for the successful recruitment, settlement and integration of internationally trained workers and students into Canada. The Newcomers Canada Fair is the only event of its kind held nationally throughout Canada, helping Permanent Residents, Temporary Foreign Workers including Working Holiday Makers, Students and Corporate Expats to learn more about living, working and studying in Canada. This unique and innovative approach to immigrant attraction and retention is designed to improve the outcomes for international workers and their families as well as students, while also supporting government agencies and employers to successfully integrate and retain immigrant workers.
