1 Frequently Asked Questions about Professional Master Courses 1. What is a Professional Master course? Professional Master courses ( correspond to post-graduate advanced courses. They don't give the access to the Third Cycle, but they are designed to provide students with specific academic and professional competences, usually directed to the job market. They provide both advanced scientific knowledge in a specific field or further professional education and training, in order to get better occupational opportunities. They last at least one year and involve the acquisition of at least 60 credits. Admission is restricted by selective procedures. On course completion, a certificate is awarded, named "Diploma di Master". About Master courses, you can find first and second level professional master course. 2. How does the Italian Academic System work? When can I attend a Professional Master course? Italian academic system is organized as you can see in the image here in attachment: After your High School Diploma (normally 12 or 13 years at school) you can access to the First Cycle of Studies, corresponding to the Bachelor degree (nornally 3 years-programme). After Bachelor you can decide to continue your studies in Italy in the Second Cycle of Studies with 2 different options: - 2 year-master degree (in Italian called LAUREA MAGISTRALE) - 1 year post-graduate Professional I level MASTER course (Advanced Course)

2 After a Master degree you can decide to continue your studies in Italy in the Third Cycle of Studies with 3 different options: - 3 year-phd - 1 year post-graduate II level Professional MASTER course (Advanced Course) - Specialization School (for Professional Habilitations) A Single Cycle Programme describes a particular kind of studies, where you are not going to study a First Cycle (Bachelor) and a Second Cycle (Master degree), but a unique 5 or 6 year-programme, such as Medicine, Architecture, Pharmacy, Dentistry, etc. 3. What kind of Masters could I attend in Sapienza University of Rome? Sapienza University of Rome offers 2 different types of Master: 1. Post-graduate Professional Master: one-year-long postgraduate course (sometimes known as "postgraduate qualifications by coursework") - These courses are designed to provide students with specific academic and professional competences, usually directed to the job market. They provide graduate students with both advanced scientific knowledge in a specific field or further professional education and training, in order to get better occupational opportunities. They last at least one year and involve the acquisition of at least 60 credits. Admission is restricted by selective procedures. Second Level Master courses can be accessed after a 2nd cycle degree course (laurea specialistica o magistrale - normally it lasts two years after the bachelor degree course), a single cycle degree course or a comparable foreign degree. They consist in advanced scientific courses or studies in life-long-learning programmes. To attend a second level Master you need to have accomplished at least 5 years of academic studies. How can I have information about enrollment procedures for next Professional Master Courses? You will find the list of Professional Master organized by Sapienza in the academic year 2016/2017 at the following web page: Selecting the faculty or inserting key words you will be able to get complete information about each Master course, with its own Public Notice, including information about enrollment, tuition fees, contacts and deadlines. What are requirements to participate to a Professional Master course? First Level Professional Master courses can be accessed after a 1st cycle degree course (laurea di primo livello - normally it lasts three years), or a comparable foreign degree (BACHELOR). The corresponding qualification does not give access to the 3rd cycle (PhD).

4 Second Level Professional Master courses can be accessed after a 2nd cycle degree course (laurea specialistica o magistrale - normally it lasts two years after the bachelor degree course), a single cycle degree course or a comparable foreign degree. They consist in advanced scientific courses or studies in life-long-learning programmes. In both cases, you need to prepare a special document about your academic title: the Diploma officially translated in Italian language, certified with the Declaration of value (DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE) released by the Italian Diplomatic Authority of the country where the title was released. This declaration must clearly state if you degree is of first (bachelor degree) or second (master degree) level. The Declaration of Value can be replaced by DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT provided by European Universities that have adopted it. 6. How can I apply for a Professional Master course? To be eligible for the Post-graduate Master Advanced Course you must: 1) Select the Professional Master course you want to attend from the List at the webpage 2) Waiting for the Public Notice (Bando.pdf) that will be online between September and December; 3) obtain DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE -released by the Italian Diplomatic Authority of the country where the title was released. This declaration must clearly state if the degree is of first (bachelor) or second (master degree) level; The Declaration of Value can be replaced by DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT provided by European Universities that have adopted it. 4) get registration number in the Informative System of Sapienza (INFOSTUD): At the end of this process you will have a MATRICOLA number and a PASSWORD; 5) entry in INFOSTUD system with Matricola Number and Password (you don t need any SPID) following the instructions of the Public Notice about the obtainment of the 51,00 pre-enrollment fee form to be paid in a Unicredit Bank Office; 6) if you are not in Italy you can pay on line (MASTERCARD, DINERS, VISA), filling in the on-line form ( action=pag ) with the same information you find in the fee form; 7) fill in the Application Form you will find in the Public Notice (last pages); 8) Send the Application Form, completed by all the attached documents required: CV, Dichiarazione di Valore, receipt of payment of 51,00, fotocopy of your academic

5 titles (or Dichiarazione di Valore or Diploma Supplement), fotocopy of you Identity Document and everything else required by the Public Notice. 7. I lost my Matricola Number and/or My Password? What can I do? If you have lost your datas to go in Infostud (matricola and password), please send a copy of your identity document at the address: settoremaster@uniroma1.it. We will recover them. 8. I have finished my Professional Master Course. Can I get a final certification? You can obtain a certification online about your Master course through Infostud ( - you select CERTIFICATI section and you will be able to download a certificate about the Obtainment of your Master course. Alternatively, we can prepare the following certifications: 1. Transcript in Italian (Moduli e Crediti); 2. Master certificate (in Italian) with final mark; 3. Master certificate (in English) with final mark.
