1 Timothy Ballard Curriculum Vitae 2015 Present Summary My research sits at the intersection of organisational and cognitive psychology. My main areas of interest are motivation and decision making. A core aim is understanding how people select courses of action when faced with competing goals in dynamic and uncertain environments. Much of this research has focused on the practical problem of understanding how people respond to climate change. I am also interested in research methods, in particular formal/computational modelling and Bayesian statistics. My aim is to develop and promote the methodological tools that enable people to conduct more rigorous and replicable research. Awarded $4000 from the UQ School of Psychology for a project entitled Formal Modeling of Leadership Categorization: Constraints from Response Times and Decision Context (with David Sewell and Nik Steffans) Played a major role in planning and writing-up a successful ARC Discovery application, on which I was named as post doc Neal, Vancouver,& Schmidt ( ). A general theory of multiple-goal pursuit. $236,700 Awarded 1400 from the University of Bristol Staff Development Fund to run a study examining how uncertainty influences perceptions of climate change. Awarded 2500 (with Stephan Lewandowsky) from the UKâĂŹs Economic and Social Research Council Transformative Social Science Scheme to run a study researching the psychological implications of property rights for pro-climate behaviour Best Paper Award from Australian Industrial and Organisational Psychology Conference Awarded $1850 the University of Western Australia to attend the European Summer School on Computational Modelling Awarded the prestigious BHP Billiton Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the University of Western Australia. This scholarship is highly competitive, awarded to only one applicant per year. It included a stipend of $148,100 over 3.5 years and an additional $5000 in travel funding. Teaching Head Tutor, Psychological Research and Data (Honours Level). Overall student evaluation score was 4.5 out of 5. Taught 5 fortnightly classes of students each, which constituted the entire honours cohort. The content included statistical methods such as factor analysis, structural equation modelling, and hierarchical regression.
