Literally Public Relations Director (0) Literally PR & Matador Book PR Packages We excel in supporting authors and publishers to match their unique story to the perfect target audience: not just via excellent PR but the entire process including brand creation, profile development and building a name for yourself as a respected author. We have a range of services and packages available to suit all budgets and objectives. This document outlines Literally s services including special discounts for Matador authors. Founded by Helen Lewis, an NCTJ-qualified journalist since 2001 and professional PR since 2006, Literally PR has worked with authors across genres and around the world; from business to history, fact to fiction, New York Times best sellers to first-time authors, young adult sci-fi to romantic and erotic fiction. For more about our team, testimonials and a list of our clients please visit All prices are free from VAT charges. Social media links: Tom Barry, author of When The Siren Calls (published by Matador) "I worked with Helen on the launch of my debut novel, When the Siren Calls. She is hard working, creative and innovative and delivers results above and beyond expectations. If you need a book publicist or someone to organise a marketing campaign or product launch, then Helen is the first person to consider." Julia Wurz, author of the best-selling Superego
"Helen Lewis worked with me on UK PR for the launch of Superego. As well as getting some fantastic coverage for the book, she couldn't have been more professional, dedicated and wonderful to deal with. I highly recommend Helen and Literally PR." Jenny Garrett, author of Rocking Your Role "I am constantly being asked who does my PR, because people say that I am everywhere! I've been commissioned to write pieces for targeted business magazines (which I wanted) and have been interviewed and commissioned by national publications including Women's Weekly, Your Wellness and Glamour in recent weeks." Packages The Literally List Every month we contact our journalists with an outline of our current authors with a short blurb about the author and the book, links to your website/facebook page/amazon book page, your contact details and a photograph of the book cover. This is sent to journalists, who have been handpicked because of their interest in literature. This comes from a third party, which is often half the battle when it comes to approaching the media, and is limited to once a month to avoid spamming! They may not be interested in every genre or book launch, the idea is that they glance through and cherry pick anything that stands out for them. Started in January 2013, many journalists now expect to receive this and base their editorial plans around it. There are no guarantees but it is a fabulous starting point for anyone on an incredibly tight budget. The Literally Entry-Level PR Package Telephone/Skype/face-to-face meeting to discuss aims and objectives, get to know the author and find out more about the book. 2. Author to complete a Q&A document to the best of their ability to support the PR. 3. Creation of a press release introducing the book/author. 2. One set of amendments following author review of first draft. 3. Distribution to targeted database (handpicked for each press release not a mass-mailing of random contacts!). Journalist contacts have been built up throughout the past 10 years and regularly refreshed (at least 500 unique and targeted contacts are
guaranteed). 4. A minimum of two hours follow-up with journalists encouraging coverage. 5. Media log of leads generated in the follow-up work (recommended that this is followed up by the author at the end of the Entry-Level Package to keep the momentum going). 6. Bespoke PR strategy document providing advice and inspiration for the author to build on in the following weeks. This package usually lasts seven days. The two hours of follow-up work is split as much as possible over a week to ensure as many journalists are contacted as possible at this entry-level price. The Literally Foundation Package Introductory conversation with Helen Lewis, Director at Literally PR, followed by a Q&A document requiring input from the client. The more input we get at this point, the more effective the PR campaign. High res jpeg images of the author, book cover and any other marketing info required at this stage. 2. Creation of an Advance Information Sheet, press pack and a press release (including one set of amendments by client for each), which is then targeted (i.e. amended with different media angles/topics) to suit the different media groups (regional, national newspapers, online blogs, consumer magazines etc). We don t just do off-the-peg PR we like to be as creative as possible, picking up on unique angles, the author back-story, or another angle that means we re not just writing another here s a new book, it s amazing press release, which are ten a penny these days and often fail to capture the media s attention! 3. Creation of a syndicated interview for re-production (based on intro chat, Q&A document and secondary research). 4. Distribution of the press releases to at least four different targeted databases - at least 1000 journalists in total. 5. Further distribution to additional contacts numbers vary depending on subject matter, target (i.e. we can cover broadcast, print, online, consumer, trade etc we welcome your thoughts on this). 6. Follow-up work promoting the book/author and liaison via , telephone and social media (a minimum of six hours during the four weeks following PR distribution). 7. A media log containing all details of communications with the media to be sent regularly (you can then follow up on any leads in your own time should you wish to). 8. Inclusion in at least one of the Literally List updates that is sent to more than 1,000 journalists every month (and is historically very well received!). This package usually lasts around 30 days. The six hours of follow-up work will always be split as much as possible over the month to ensure as many
journalists are contacted as possible at this entry-level price. Literally The Full Works Package Introductory conversation with Helen Lewis followed by a Q&A document requiring input from the client. 2. Creation of an Advance Information Sheet, press pack and first press release. Design of a strategic plan containing a media list of targets (segmented by category and listed by publication name) and at least 10 unique media angles (many of which will be used through this campaign but the remainder can be developed by the author/publisher). The press pack will contain extracts for re-production, images (to be supplied by the author/publisher), synopsis (to be supplied by the author/publisher we can help with this if you haven t got one already), quotes from the author and sound bites from the review. One set of amendments following author review of first draft. 3. Ongoing and regular creation of media angles, editorial ideas and news hooks to pitch to editors to be discussed and promoted to journalists according to publication interest/type. The author is invited to comment on news hooks, which we turn into short intro press releases targeting selected media ultimately positioning the author as the go-to person for quotes on certain subjects. For business and factual authors this is a tried and tested PR method that we are known for. For fiction authors, the story subject can be picked up on, as well as the author s life/back story, which has worked very well too. 4. Independent book review written by a journalist (at least 300 words). This can be used in the PR but also on your website, social marketing and through other marketing channels as you see fit. 5. Distribution of press release and media pack to unique journalist contacts built up during the past decade (at least 1000 targeted s). 6. Creation of a top 50 hot list containing journalists/publications the author is keen to pursue and who we deem important to the campaign based on our experience of liaising with the media. We work on this with the author, who receives a copy of the list and you ll be regularly informed about the status of our communications with these journalists. 7. Liaison with each contact on the hot list ( s, social media and telephone calls). 8. At least two further press releases created and distributed (typically in the second month). This is a great way of reminding journos that you re a media-friendly author with plenty to talk about!). 9. A minimum of 12 hours follow-up work following publication and distribution of the press releases. This can include organising interviews with the author, responding to incoming enquiries, promoting the book/author to the media. 10. A media log containing all details of communications with the media to
be sent regularly (you can then follow up on any leads in your own time should you wish to). 11. Inclusion in at least two of the Literally List updates that are sent to more than 1,000 journalists (and are historically very well received!). 12. A final hand-over report at the end of the project. The author will handle future incoming enquiries unless otherwise agreed. There is the option of ad hoc PR support at a rate of 50 per hour, or you can take another package. We ALWAYS deliver more than this package covers, but it gives you a good idea about the sort of things we can do for you as part of the Full Works Package. We will be creative and dedicated to your campaign and responsive to your questions and ideas. This package usually lasts around 60 days. The minimum of 12 hours of follow-up work is split as much as possible over the month to ensure as many journalists are contacted as possible at this hugely competitive price. Strategic consultancy Consultancy topics include: 1. Development of media angles, potential news hooks as a one-off or over a few weeks to keep on top of media opportunities. 2. Distribution of pre-written PR materials (subject to content approval). 3. Social networking support (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc). 55 per hour plus expenses from Kent if you would like to work faceto-face. Minimum of five hours. Launch event consultancy Consultancy topics include: 1. Sourcing venue. 2. Logistics pre-event. 3. Invitation design. 4. Creation of invitation list (media and industry) 5. Distribution to invitation list and management of RSVPs. 6. Creation of media packs. 7. Logistics on the day of the event. 8. Attendance at the event. 9. Follow-up post-event with guests and those who couldn t make it. 10. Creation of a press release and distribution post-event. 55 per hour plus expenses from Kent if you would like to work faceto-face. Minimum of 10 hours. Strategic and creative PR input on a monthly basis This is an incredibly popular alternative for authors who want to pay for our time and expertise without a strict formula, allowing us to be even more creative and formulate a winning PR campaign drawing upon the author s input and our contacts/experience/expertise.
For just 60 an hour for a minimum of six hours per month we will support you with your PR, drawing upon many of the above options, creating a package that is tailored to your needs, but also that reacts to what s happening in the media and book world. Six hours is the absolute minimum we can offer in order to achieve results. Creative, inspirational PR that focuses on building your profile as an author, your brand, promoting your book and creating a name for you in the press and the busy book world! 60 per hour. Minimum of six hours per month for three months = investment of Our points of difference: We aim to be as flexible as possible with pricing, so if you would like us to tailor make a package to suit your needs, please let us know. This is one of our major points of difference from other book publicity groups and inhouse publishers: we work to your budget and schedule. We are incredibly competitively priced and will be for as long as we possibly can be! We are very well connected with the media, particularly because Helen Lewis has worked as a journalist (and still does, on a freelance basis) for more than a decade. We actually read every book we promote and talk to every author. We aim to build a relationship with the author and ensure they re comfortable with the PR process, which is often a new experience for them and, let s face it, PRs don t always have the best reputation! We do not do mass, untargeted mailings to journalists. We do not make any guarantees about coverage. We do, however, try extremely hard to get as much coverage as we can. Sometimes, the Holy Grail of achieving national newspaper coverage is not as fabulous as it first appears...we have achieved plenty for our clients in the past, including the front page, but there are many other hugely influential media titles out there, which may have a bigger impact on your book sales as they talk directly to your target audience. We do not want to shoehorn you into a fixed package for a fixed term containing elements that are not suitable for your budget or plan. We don t charge retainer fees or tie you in to an annual contract. Basically, this is your book and you can shape the publicity schedule according to your ambitions, goals and budget. We can accept payment in two installments over 500: i.e. 50% just before the project starts and 50% 4-6 weeks after the project start-date depending on project length. If you d like us to manage the mailing of review copies of your book to the media (we don t do unsolicited mailings) we will charge for postage (not packing) costs. You ll be informed of the price per book mailing but it s usually no more than 1.60 per item. No VAT is charged.
