2 ATHLETIC SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS The YMCA believes that every athlete should be offered the opportunity to develop skills that will enable them to excel and compete successfully at the middle school and high school level. We are a community-based, non-profit organization committed to training and developing student athletes through competitive participation in their sport. We strive to provide a solid foundation of fundamental and technical skills to help participants develop, not only as athletes, but also as individuals. Teaching positive lifelong character traits including sportsmanship, leadership, and cooperation are important to the success of our teams. Athletic skills and development is for athletes of all ages. Work one on one or in a small group with a sport specific coach to develop skills and become a better player. Specific skills sessions are determined by each sports coach. SIGN UP TODAY TO ENHANCE YOUR GAME! Mental Game and Self-Belief A very important and often overlooked factor in sports success is positive and valuable self-belief of an athlete and power of an athlete s mind in achieving goals. An essential part of modern preparation is to inspire you and train your mind to be confident. Basketball Lacrosse Soccer Softball Speed & Agility Volleyball We are looking to provide high-level instructional skill sessions geared towards basketball, baseball, soccer and volleyball. These skill sessions are geared specifically towards the committed and determined athlete who is looking to improve their level of play. Regardless of the sport, during each session athletes will be put through situational drills that force them to think about what they should do. We are committed to providing the best possible environment for our athletes to reach their maximum playing potential through excellence in coaching and community support. Our players will be challenged to excel not only for their own personal growth but also for the betterment of their team, the organization, their communities, and the development of area club coaches. Basketball- Sessions will cover ball handling, shooting form, passing, footwork, creating space, conditioning, speed, agility and quickness. Lacrosse Sessions will cover passing, and other drills and instructions to keep skills sharp. Soccer- Sessions will cover passing, shooting, defending, attacking, conditioning, speed, agility and quickness. Softball Sessions will cover hitting, pitching, throwing, catching, fielding, base running, and bunting. Speed & Agility- Sessions will include learning proper running technique and becoming more explosive. Volleyball- Sessions will cover defense, offense, blocking, passing, serving, attacking, footwork, proper positioning, conditioning, speed, agility, strength, mental toughness. WELLSPAN FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT ASSESSMENTS (FMA): A licensed athletic trainer from WELLSPAN Sports Medicine will perform your Functional Movement Assessment looking for poor movement patterns, which can increase your risk of injury. When testing is complete, each athlete will receive a report of their functional limitations and recommendations specifically tailored to help address their individual needs and improve their injury risk level. **FMA TESTING WILL BE FREE TO ALL PARTICIPATING ATHLETES IN SPORTS SPECIFIC AREAS. 4 BASKETBALL SKILL SET BASKETBALL ACADEMY This Academy combines the best of the basketball camps and summer leagues together. The Academy will run for 6 weeks during the summer, one night a week per age group for two hours. The first hour will be dedicated to doing drills and providing instructions from The goal of the Academy is to help ball players keep their skills sharp, increase their knowledge of the game, and improve their playing ability for the up-coming season. Sessions will be held at the HANOVER YMCA, Court #3 Limit 20 per age group. 5 BASKETBALL HIGH-LEVEL BASKETBALL COMBINE YMCA Elite Camp is for serious basketball players who are looking to participate in a 2 day, Pro-Style Combine workout that will test and improve every aspect of the player s game both physically and mentally. Players will participate in an intense and challenging workout that includes improvement drills to promote growth in explosiveness, agility, ball handling, shooting, conditioning, rebounding, teamwork, advocacy, and defense. If you are serious about improving for next season and want the tools in which to do so, this camp is the way to start off your summer. He is currently a coach at York College of Pennsylvania. Nick was a 1,000 point scorer and Area Player-of-the-Year at Delone Catholic he went on to play at York College, where he was Conference Player-of-the-year and Division III All-American. Joining Nick will be a team of staff that is made up of current and former collegiate players along with current high school coaches. 5

With all coaches and staff having collegiate play, or High School coaching experience, we provide an instructive and competitive atmosphere that provides ample support to help turn weaknesses into strengths, while having fun doing it. From individual improvement stations, game like scenarios and competitions, and special guest speakers, we provide the building blocks for success that assist players in improving on both ends of the floor. 7 FOOTBALL NON-CONTACT FOOTBALL SKILLS CAMP Hanover Rhino s SEMI-PRO Team Players will develop new football skills and improve on existing football skills. They will gain a teamwork mindset to help football players become better teammates. Players will have fun while learning to be coachable at the sport they love. This is the 4th ANNUAL Hanover Rhinos York-Adams youth football skills camp and community/business EXPO. Dates: 7/30 Time: 8:00am to 2:00 pm Fees: FREE Ages: 6-14 Location: Outside Fields, Hanover YMCA Coordinator: Christopher Bunty, Hanover Rhinos Christopher Bunty is a co-owner of the Hanover Rhinos. He played football in his youth and brings his knowledge of the game as a coach for our youth. He is joined by his exceptional staff, Adam Bostian, co-owner, and Joe Angleber, skills camp coach. Combined they have over 30 years experience in the great game of football. 7

8 LACROSSE SKILL SET BOYS LACROSSE ACADEMY This Academy combines the best of the Lacrosse camps and summer leagues together. It will be a 6 week academy, which will meet on Saturday mornings. The academy will be divided into two parts; the first hour will focus on drills and receiving instructions from a YMCA staff member, the second hour will be a time for games and/or game like skills competitions. The goal is to help lacrosse players keep their skills sharp, increase their knowledge of the game, and improve their playing ability for the upcoming season. Players who sign up for this program must have the following lacrosse equipment to participate; stick, helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads and mouth guard. In the event of rain, please bring sneakers for indoor practice. Dates: 6/11-7/16 Time: 8:00am to 10:00am AND/OR 10am to 12:00pm Fees: Members $65, Non-Members $80 Ages: 6-15 Includes: Reversible LAX pinnie (please consider pinnie size as it will go over protective gear) Location: Outside Fields, HANOVER YMCA Coordinator: John Grap 8 John Grap coaches the South West lacrosse club, and has done so for 5 years. This year will be his second year running the YMCA Skills Set Boys Lacrosse Academy. He will be teaming up with Dave Urick,, who served as a head coach a combined 33 years at Hobart College and Georgetown University and is a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He will be joined by David Urick, and together will help the participates reach the next level of lacrosse skill set.

9 LACROSSE ADVANCED BOYS LACROSSE CAMP YMCA Lacrosse is more than a game. Our focus is not only on the fundamentals, but the work ethic and discipline it takes to get to the next level. The skills both on and off the field, love of the game, and the values we instill in our players will help to achieve their goals, face challengers head on, and become high caliber athletes. Dates: 8/2-8/4 Time: 9:00am-3:00pm Fees: Members $100, Non-Members $125 Ages: Location: Outside Fields, Hanover YMCA Coordinator: Hank Jancyk One of the most successful lacrosse coaches in NCAA history, Hank Janczyk, men s lacrosse coach at Gettysburg College, will be coaching this camp. With a career record of ( at Gettysburg), Janczyk ranks second in NCAA history in men's lacrosse coaching victories (all divisions). He became just the second NCAA men's lacrosse coach to reach 400 wins when Gettysburg defeated Franklin & Marshall College 10-8 on April 22, Janczyk also won his 300th game as a Gettysburg coach when the Bullets topped McDaniel College 10-6 in the 2010 Centennial Conference semifinals. He is one of just four NCAA men's lacrosse coaches to pick up 300 victories at one school. We are honored to have him coach our Advanced Boys Lacrosse Camp. 9

10 SPEED & AGILITY SPEED AND AGILITY CLINIC This clinic will provide professional instruction to ALL athletes, regardless of sport. It is perfect for any athlete who is looking to get a quicker first step and become more explosive on the field or court. Having a quicker first step will help give you the edge over your opponents.. If you are looking to separate yourself from your competition, it all starts with one step. A quick first step can be the difference in a blocked shot or points for the other team, the difference between a steal or a goal, the difference between making it to the finals and not. This speed and agility camp will work on not only your first step, but all the steps that follow. Teaching the proper form and technique needed to take your game, whatever that may be, to the next level. Dates: 7/18-7/21 Time: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Fees: Members $75.00, Non-Members $90.00 Ages: Location: Outdoor fields, Hanover YMCA Coordinator: Kelly Fromknecht, Cal University, Volleyball and Former Hept-Athlete Kelly Fromknect was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. Later she attended California University of Pennsylvania to study Sports Management with a minor in Biology and pursue an athletic career in volleyball and track and field. As an All-American setter for the Vulcan Volleyball team, Kelly and her teammates made a total of 2 NCAA DII elite-8 appearances and 5 sweet-16 appearances and captured 3 PSAC conference titles from After receiving her degree in Sports Management, Kelly went on to study for a Master s Degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in performance enhancement and injury prevention. Kelly is a NASM certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and a Precision Nutrition Certified Specialist. She is also certified 10 through NASE (Speed and Explosion).

11 SOFTBALL HIGH-LEVEL SOFTBALL CAMP If you are looking to improve your current softball skills, than look no further. We have the camp for you! This High-Level camp is run by Coach Phil Smith and his coaching staff at McDaniel College. This is the perfect camp for players of any position that are looking to take their game to the next level. Players will work on throwing, fielding, base running, bunting, and hitting. Elite camp for players of all skill levels. WHEN: 6/7-6/9 and 6/21-6/23 TIME: 9:00 am - 12:00pm AGES: COST: YM $100/ NM $125 per week LOCATION: BASEBALL FIELDS, HANOVER AREA YMCA Phil Smith, a Hanover native, is in his 12th season as the Head Coach for the McDaniel softball team. During his time at McDaniel he has won a total of 253 games and has led his team to a conference championship. Smith boasts an ASA certification as coach and instructor, and is a member of the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA), where he serves on the Camp & Clinic committee. Coach Smith has hosted many camps and clinics throughout his time at McDaniel and is looking forward to serving his community by hosting one at the NORTH HANOVER YMCA. 11

12 SOCCER THE YMCA SOCCER CAMP The goal of the Mark Mettrick Youth Soccer Day Camp is to help youth soccer players learn the game of soccer in a fun-filled environment. The camp recognizes that young players of different ages have very separate demands depending on their age and level of development. The Soccer Camp staff will run game-oriented sessions that incorporate fun and skill development and are designed for specific age groups. Ages Junior Soccer Fundamentals All sessions will be FUN, and each day a specific skill will be emphasized. At the end of the day, 3 vs. 3 and 4 vs. 4 games will be played to encourage multiple touches of the ball in real game situations. Ages Intermediate/Advanced Soccer The development of technical skills is still the primary focus with an introduction of individual and team tactics based on the level of players. At the end of the day, 4 vs. 4 and 7 vs. 7 games will be played to reflect the particular session taught. Dates : 8/8-8/12 Time: 9am - 12pm each day Ages: 5-14 Fees: $100 YM/ $115 NM - T-shirt included (option to purchase a ball $10) 12 Mark is the current collegiate Head Men's Soccer Coach at Division III Gettysburg College. During his twenty years as a collegiate head coach he has enjoyed five NCAA national appearances, and numerous national rankings, including a Top-10 National Ranking in 2002, a Top-30 National Ranking in 2007 and most a #6 National Ranking in In 2009 the Loyola Men's Soccer program qualified for the Division 1 NCAA tournament for a school record third consecutive season. Mettrick was voted MAAC Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002, 2004, 2007 and in Mettrick has directed his summer camps for over 20 years. Mettrick's camps are dedicated to helping young players improve their game in a creative and positive environment.

13 VOLLEYBALL HIGH-LEVEL VOLLEYBALL CAMP This high-level volleyball camp will be run by a collegiate coach and give participants a real look at what it would be like to play volleyball in college. Not only will participants be given instruction by a collegiate coach, they will also go through volleyball specific strength and conditioning drills. Dates: 6/28-6/30 Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm Fees: Members $100, Non-Members $125 Ages: Location: Basketball courts, Hanover YMCA Coordinator: Alexa Keckler, Head Women s Volleyball coach at Muhlenberg Coach Keckler will be entering her seventh season as head coach for the Mules this fall. In six seasons, Coach Keckler has piloted the Mules from a 6-18 record in 2010 to 3 consecutive seasons with 18+ wins for an overall collegiate coaching record of While at Muhlenberg she has had 10 all conference selections, the 2013 Rookie of the Year, 1 All-region player, an All-American player and most recently an Academic All-American. Her teams have also received the AVCA All-Academic Team award 4 of the last 6 seasons. Prior to Muhlenberg, Coach Keckler spent 5 seasons with conference rival Gettysburg College. Coach Keckler had a record of and guided the Bullets to a conference championship and a 2005 NCAA tournament appearance. 13

14 VOLLEYBALL TWO DAY VOLLEYBALL SEASON PREP CLINIC This Clinic is run by a collegiate coach and will give participants a last minute boost in volleyball fitness and volleyball skills to prepare them for high school tryouts. This volleyball clinic will be split into four sessions held from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm each day to give the participants a look ahead to tryouts. Dates: 8/1-8/2 Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Fees: Members $100, Non-Members $125 Ages: Location: Basketball courts, Hanover YMCA Coordinator: Alexa Keckler, Head Women s Volleyball coach at Muhlenberg Coach Keckler will be entering her seventh season as head coach for the Mules this fall. 15 VARIETY SPORTS The YMCA is offering a wide variety of Sports Camps that will keep your child active and healthy throughout the summer. These camps are perfect for any child who wants to try a new sport, or improve their skills. These Sports Camps will provide the chance for campers to build their skills and learn how to interact in a team environment. We have a full summer of Sports Camps that are perfect for your child! Ages: Fees: 6-14 years old $40 YMCA Members $50 Non-YMCA Members Times: 9am-12:00pm Location: NORTH HANOVER YMCA All of our Sports Camps will be run from 9am until 12pm Monday through Friday. For any participants that want to attend Camp Hickory in the afternoon, there is an option to pay the part-time fee of $75 for YMCA members and $105 for Nonmembers. Each week of camp will offer various activities that the campers can participate in. Each morning the campers will be able to pick which activity they would like to participate in for that day. Dates: 6/20-6/24 Basketball: Improve your court skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense all while having fun playing some games. Games include scrimmages, knockout, and other basketball activities. Soccer: Goal! Campers will learn basic soccer skills, including passing, shooting, defense, attacking the goal and game rules. Outdoor Games: Campers will play various outdoor games, such as capture the flag and flag football. Dates: 6/27-7/1 Baseball: Campers will learn the fundamental skills of baseball fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running. Campers will put those skills to the test in game like drills and scrimmages. Kickball: Campers will participate in games of kickball. Outdoor Games: Campers will play various outdoor games, such as capture the flag and flag football. Dates: 7/11-7/15 Volleyball: Campers will learn basic skills, how to bump, set and spike! Campers will be put to the test in game-like drills and scrimmages. Soccer: Goal! Campers will learn basic soccer skills, including passing, shooting, defense, attacking the goal and game rules. Kickball: Campers will participate in games of kickball. Dates: 7/25-7/29 Outdoor Games: Campers will play various outdoor games, such as capture the flag, kickball and flag football. Basketball: Improve your court skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense all while having fun playing some games. Games include scrimmages, knockout, and other basketball activities. Dodgeball: Campers will participate in various games similar to dodgeball. Dates: 8/1-8/5 Outdoor Games: Campers will play various outdoor games, such as capture the flag, kickball and flag football. Soccer: Goal!!!Campers will learn basic soccer skills, including passing, shooting, defense, attacking the goal and game rules. Dates: 8/8-8/12 Baseball: Campers will learn the fundamental skills of baseball fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and base running.
