1 ALL PO FLAG FOOTBALL BASIC ULES & PLAYBOOK

2 Basic ules League ules Basics ules & Points to remember: Each player must have a NFL Flag Jersey, Belts & mouth guard in at all <mes Two 20 min running half's with a 5 min haldime during normal weeks. 5 & 6 year old Coaches are allowed on the field but need to stay clear of play as much as possible. Once the players know their assignments please leave the field. All other ages should stay on the sideline as much as possible. Coin Toss: Each Team needs 2 captains for the coin toss. Away team calls heads or tails, if no coin use the ball and call spaces or laces. Team that wins the toss has the choice to take possession or defer to the 2nd half. Home Team dark jerseys, Away Team white jerseys. The Offensive team must snap the ball 30 sec ader the previous play was completed in order to keep the game moving. "Coaches Out" Is our term to tell you to leave the field or speed up play. It will be said each play as a reminder. Each teams possession (Start of half, defensive stop or safety) will begin at the 5 yard line. First downs are made by reaching mid field or by penalty. You have 3 downs to obtain a 1st and then 3 more downs to score a TD. Penal<es can result in a 1st down in which the ball will be spo[ed accordingly. Ages 5-6 have the op<on to run or pass each down as well as receive the snap the most effec<ve way with a cadence. Ages 7 and up must a[empt 1 pass per set of downs, or in the no run zones (5 yards before mid field, 5 yd line on into the end zone) of the field and must hike the ball between the centers legs directly to the B or via shotgun forma<on. All penal<es are 5 yards unless the team is within the 5 yard no run zone. If so, half the distance is marked off. TD = 6 points, you may go for 2 with the op<on to run or pass. Going for 1 in the older divisions is a PASS only down. B must hand off or pass the ball (he is not allowed to run freely even if he is rushed, if rushed he must avoid the defender and release the ball before being called down or 7 sec has expired) All players are eligible to go out for a pass including the center, if the ball is handed off the B may release into the pa[ern and become a receiver as well. The B has 7 sec to throw the ball on a passing down. If he is s<ll in possession of the ball it is ruled as a incomplete pass and loss of down with the ball being re- spo[ed at the previous LOS. Defensively you may choose to play man or zone. Ages 7 and up blitzers may come from any player on the field from a 7 yard depth. Only one player may blitz per down. 5-6 year old blitzers may come from any player on the field from a 5 yard depth. Only one player may blitz per down. Ball stripping of the B or ball carrier is not allowed (the only way to down a player is to pull one of their flags, they fumble, they run out of bounds or fall down)

3 Any player that takes possession of the ball and has one or both of their flags missing will be whistled down immediately. Once the B has handed the ball off to another offensive player, any Defender may rush freely to grab the ball carriers flag. Defenders may guard the LOS but cannot cross over un<l the ball is handed off. Fumbles: Ages 5-6: In order to try and keep the game flowing the refs will let the play run if a ball that is fumbled on snap is picked up right away. If it stays on the ground longer than a couple seconds we will blow the play dead to avoid diving on the ball. Ages 7 and up may receive a warning but the play is to be blown dead the moment the ball touches the ground. Fumbles during play will be blown dead immediately, possession is retained by the offense at the spot of the fumble. INT's are a con<nuous down. If a pass is intercepted, the defender may return it for a TD. If the intercep<ng players flag is pulled, fumbles, falls down or runs out of bounds before they reach the end zone, the ball will be spo[ed there for a 1st down with a possession change. Basic Offensive penal<es consist of: Flag guarding (knocking away a defenders hand), blocking or impeding in anyway (once the ball carrier has the ball, its 1 vs the rest of the defenders), 2 men in mo<on, false start, too many men on the field unsportsmanlike conduct of any kind Basic Defensive penal<es consist of: Tackling, off sides, rushing from a non blitz zone distance, mul<ple blitzers, jersey grabbing, roughing the passer, unsportsmanlike conduct of any kind In the event of over<me, the winner is determined by the team that scores. Both teams will receive 1 possession/3 downs. Ball will be placed as if they are going for a 2pt conversion. If both teams score the game ends in a <e. Tournament Over<me rules are the same but will con<nue un<l the <e is broken and both teams having had an equal number of possessions. One 30 sec <me out per half is allowed. Tackling, blocking, grabbing of the jersey or throwing down another player is not tolerated (please do not ask or tell your kids to get in another child's way. Players are not wearing protec<ve helmets or pads, we must avoid collisions at all cost) Taun<ng & Trash talking is not allowed (We need all parents and coaches to police their own children in order to maintain a posi<ve and fun atmosphere) Do not encourage rage, violence or unsportsmanlike conduct at any <me. Screens or laterals of any kind are not allowed. All passes must cross the LOS/towards the LOS(under or over hand) and all hand offs are player to player, no tosses. Hand off can be in front or behind. Snapping of the ball (the B must receive the snap from under center or shotgun, direct snap to someone in mo<on is not allowed. The player in the gun that receives the snap is designated as the B for the down.) All players must be set before the snap of the ball for 1 sec unless in mo<on and not moving forward. Spiking the ball and celebra<on dances are not allowed and will be viewed as taun<ng (please help the referees in enforcing the no spiking the ball rule) Jumping up to block passes is allowed but contac<ng the B would be considered a penalty. everse passes, double & triple reverse passes are a legal play. The B may release for a pass if he hands the ball off. All defenders are asked to drop a offensive players flag at the point it was taken in order to help with spohng the ball and to allow the offensive player to retrieve it and place it back in their flag belt.
