2 Aim of the Presentation To give an insight into the UK International Search and Rescue Team and the additional challenges faced when operating overseas
3 International Urban Search and Rescue International specialised, technical search and rescue in collapsed structures, and confined spaces, in predominantly populated areas

8 Concept Development of International USAR Armenia: 1988 Large numbers of rescue teams deployed, but there was no coordination mechanism Need for established protocols was realised Inconsistencies in team composition and capacity were identified Logistical needs were ill-defined Ability to integrate into local resources was hampered Inability to communicate with other stakeholders
9 The International Team Role The mission of international USAR teams is to attend the complex rescues, that cannot be easily accessed by local or national resources. These actions require specially trained and equipped rescuers, used to operating safely and effectively in highly technical and dangerous environments.
10 UK ISAR Strategic Aim To support a mechanism through which the UK can comply with the principles of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 57/150 Strengthening the effectiveness and coordination of international urban search and rescue assistance. UK ISAR also supports the UK s commitment to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

27 Time In rescue operations where the definition of Urban Search and Rescue is applied, time becomes a critical factor in the survivability of a victim. This is due to the many factors involved in the rescue, or how the victim is entrapped.
