3 Education in schools, churches and women groups on Malaria, TB, HIV & AIDS, SRH, Brest Cancer Examination, Hepatitis B among others. Seeks financial assistance for Women group to boost their businesses.assisting women group in agriculture EDUCATION AND CAMPAIGNING The organization organizes educational campaign on malaria in various schools as well as cleanup exercise in fighting the spread of malaria. Also we collaborated with the Ghana Health Service on the just ended integrated measles/vitamin A vaccination Campaign in some selected communities in Western Region. BEHAVIOUR CHANGE COMMUNICATION ON WATER AND SANITATION Every year the organization targets Children, Youth and Women to build their capacity as to theirhealth. The Organization target population of 1200 every year because we believe that these group of people are the agent of Change who Learn good hygiene practices at schools, various work places and take the back to their homes and communities, due to research undertaken by the organization lead us to the groups below. Youth group of Church of Christ totalling 108 benefited from education on proper sanitation and proper hand washing techniques before and after meals, after visiting washroom as well as shaking of hands. A lot of interesting questions came out of this as they cannot be carrying water along to be washing their hands anytime they shake hands with people. We used the opportunity to introduced hand sanitizer to them and also make sure they wash their hands any time they come home from where ever they visit. The pupil of Holy Child Primary School also benefited from the education with the population of 463 pupils. The facilitator made them aware that children under 5 are the most vulnerable group due to contracting diseases like diarrheal or cholera to extent of losing their life. And as such hand washing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent disease. The pupil of Kansaworado Catholic School were also beneficiaries to this awareness creation and education on water and sanitation. A School with a population of 625 are not even having a single hand washing bowl for the pupil. The one provided by the school is for all the teachers in the school. The women at the Daboase market with a population of 302 have now been provided with a Dustbin. Kojokrom Market with a population of 237 has also received Dustbin. The public latrine provided for the women who were not properly maintained has now been improved.

4 Key achievements Trained 30 community members as peer educators on malaria, srh and HIV/AIDS prevention 1000 community members reached with behavioural change communication massages on HIV & AIDS abstinence and stigma. 15 young ladies completed on skill training. 10 young ladies receiving skill training supported by OICI (On-Going) Main challenges Inadequate funds to motivate volunteers to carry out the education in the various communities as expected Support for guardian to care for orphans and vulnerable children. Financial assistance for women groups to boost their businesses Inadequate funds to continue with innovative programmes Outlined PARTNERS: - Ghana Coalition of NGOs In Health - Busac Fund - SNV - LOGODEP - GHS - Mshap/Cencosad - Ghanet - OICI - Regional Coordinating Council - Metropolitan Assembly With the experience of the organization above we strongly believe that African Women International is the Right organization to execute the React project and to be precise at Daboase which is the Wassa East District, the organization is already in touch with the people especially with the market women who are the most vulnerable when it comes to the antibiotic resistance. The district is chosen for the React project because it has only one recognised hospital and the licensed chemical shops are also few to be counted. The district has more than ten communities under its jurisdiction. This give opportunity to individuals to sell drugs to the populace which they really patronise in it because they find it difficult going to the hospital which they will spend more than hours before, even when fortunate will see the doctor. Daboase was chosen to be precise because that is the main community and during market days people from more than twenty communities as far as Central and Shama, Takoradi come there to trade and that is where you will see those drug peddlers packed their drugs in Polly bags selling to the market women. African Women International in its own small way with the help of React Project will educate the Market Women which they have a strong association, the women groups in the various churches, schools among other groups to know the dangers in taken un-prescribe drugs to help kerb the menace in the districts.
