HALF TERMLY UPDATE- STREETSBROOK CHILDCARE JUNE 2015 ROCKETS & COSMIC CLUB Welcome back to the final half term of this academic year at Streetsbrook Childcare. We enjoyed a super holiday club... we had water fights, races on the inflatable assault course, went craft crazy with the creation station and had a super sliding good time on the bouncy castle! The summer booking form will be out shortly we are planning an action packed holiday club along with our annual summer holiday trip! We begin transition sessions this half term for any children starting Streetsbrook Nursery in September and this will be taking place in both morning and afternoon sessions over certain days each week. This will involve small groups of children having planned sessions such as stories, games and activities together with their Key Person alongside the opportunity to spend time within the Nursery class. There will also be additional sessions for Nursery and Reception children to begin transitions into their new classrooms to meet their new teachers later in the term. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that we have made the decision to set two staff training days for the Childcare staff in line with school inset days. This will enable valuable professional development opportunities for the staff to take part in training as a whole team. We have scheduled these dates for the next academic year and they are as follows Wednesday 2 September and Thursday 5 May. This will mean Childcare will be closed on these days and there will no Childcare sessions running at all on these days. As the weather is getting warmer may we remind you to apply a once application of sun cream to your child before arriving in the morning. If you wish, you may provide us with a named bottle of sun cream so that we can apply a further application if necessary. Children should also have a named sunhat at all times. Please see diary dates in the next page that highlight important days such as trips, parent workshops, celebrations and consultations. K Moxley Streetsbrook Childcare Manager
Diary Dates Just a reminder that Childcare only children are visiting Conkers on Thursday 11 June. Childcare is open as usual for Nursery wraparound sessions and before and after school club. We are leaving promptly at 9.00am and will return in time for 3.15pm. Please ensure your child has suitable clothing for the weather either waterproofs or sun hat. At 1.00pm on Tuesday 16 June Ben and Holly from the Magic Kingdom are visiting Childcare after we won the Chatterbox challenge raffle. Local press will be visiting us on this day, for a possible article in the local newspaper. Please can you provide consent for your child to appear in the press should their photo be taken by completing the slip at the foot of this letter. To kick off the PTA s Beach themed Summer Fair we invite all children to come to club dressed in suitable clothing ready for the beach on Friday 19 June! Please put on sun cream as the children will be outside (weather permitting) for most of the day! Our school open day is on Tuesday 7 July and children in our Cosmic Club will be sharing their portrait gallery with you along with their favourite recipes, cakes and treats for you to taste! Make sure you pop into the Community Room on the day! The final Parent Consultations will also be taking place on Tuesday 7 July between 9.30am and 7.00pm. Please look out for appointment times which will be made available soon sign up with your child s Key Person. Children who are moving up to Nursery or Reception, or that are moving on to a new setting will have a Transition Document to share with their new teachers and this will be shared with you at Parent Consultations. We are also really excited to have booked Leap Frog Sports on Tuesday 7 July for our final Parent Workshop during the morning (9.30am am for Little Stars and 10.15am-11.00am for Little Rockets). In order for the children to take part they will need an adult present to assist them with the Mini-Olympics that the instructors have planned. There are a limited number of sessions available, please book a slot with your child s key person. End of year parties with the PARTY BUS for Childcare are on Tuesday 14 July as follows: pm - Little Stars and Little Rockets (and Morning Nursery) pm - Cosmic Club (Afternoon Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & 2) Finally, our Celebration Day will be on Wednesday 15 July at 9.30am in the Community room. All children from Rockets and Stars will be sharing songs, work and surprises from their time here at Streetsbrook Childcare. A letter with more details will follow shortly. Summer Term 2, Half-term Transport June 2015 Our topic for this half-term is all about Transport. The topic will encompass aspects of work from all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). To support our topics we have visiting providers to complement our planning, and we are looking forward to taking part in Mrs Arabella The Story Teller and Jo Jingles back to Childcare. We have decided that we are going to follow on from the children s interests in the Rockets Room and will not be setting a set theme for each week of this half term. We are starting with Transport this week and we have turned the role-play area in to a Streetsbrook bus. All independent activities will be based around this theme and we will then plan individually for all of the children incorporating their fascinations and curiosities.

STROLLING & ROLLING AT BREAKFAST CLUB In Cosmic Breakfast Club this week we have enjoyed strolling to school around the playground every morning this week! If your child attends Breakfast Club and strolls with us then they can tick their chart to say they have walked to school. Well done everyone!
Rockets Prime Areas of Learning Below are examples of children s progress and development and what we would anticipate to see during our last term in the Rockets Room linked to the prime areas of learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We have adapted this from the document What to expect, when (2015) working within the month age band. Personal Social and Emotional Development Physical Development Communication and Language Development Making relationships I can play in a group with my friends. I can make up ideas for things to do and games to play. I will ask my friends to play with me. I can watch what my friends are doing and join in with them. I talk to and make friends with other children and grown-ups I know. Self confidence and self awareness I choose the toys I want to play with and what I want to do with them with help from a grown up. I like it when you say things like well done for eating all your dinner or thank you for putting the toys away I like helping you when you are busy, like putting some shopping away or matching my socks together. I am beginning to talk to grown-ups I don t know when you are there. I will join in new things when you are with me. When we are playing, I will chat to my friends about you and our family. I can ask grown-ups for help when I need it. Managing feelings and behaviour I know when I am sad or cross and that if I shout or say unkind things I might make my friends sad or worried too. I know that sometimes my friends will want to have the toys I am playing with and need help from a grown up to help me share these with them. I am beginning to understand that when you are busy I can t always have everything I want, when I want it. I know that sometimes I can t do things I want to do, like running around in the supermarket or jumping up and down on your friend s sofa with my muddy boots on. We would anticipate the children to be able to play with other children, initiating interactions with both peers and familiar adults. We would also begin to see children to be aware of their own feelings and begin to share and take turns. Moving and handling I can go up and down stairs and steps like a grown up, using one foot per step. When you show me how to stand on just one foot, I can copy you, just for a second without falling over. I can wave my arms or ribbons to make up and down lines and circles in the air. I can use child scissors to make snips in paper. I can hold my pencil near the top, like a grown up, using my thumb and two fingers, not my whole hand. I can make the lines and marks that I want with a pencil. When you write my name, I can copy some of the letters by myself on my piece of paper. Health and self care I can tell you when I am hungry and want something to eat or when I am tired and want to have a sleep. I notice that when I am running, I get hot and I pant a bit. Most of the time, I remember to go to the toilet in time and I wipe myself. I can wash and dry my own hands. When you help me and hold out my coat, I can put it my arms in and I can do the zip up when you start it. I can pull my own trousers up too. We would anticipate the children to confidently walk up and downstairs, have an awareness of personal space and begin to negotiate. They might be able to begin to use child scissors, and begin to form a good grasp of a pencil to begin forming letters and making marks. We expect them to be becoming more independent in using the toilet themselves and to be more independent at dressing and undressing Listening and attention When I like what they are talking about, I listen to my friends. I listen to the stories you tell me and I talk about them later. When you read me stories, I join in with my favourite bits, like Who s been sleeping in my bed? when we are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I can join in with my favourite rhymes and stories with you and guess what will happen next. When you ask me to do something like Come and put your coat on, I will do it if I am not really busy playing. Understanding When you ask me questions like What do we need to cut the bread? I know it s a knife. I can help you when you ask me to put something away or get something like Put your shoes in the basket, please I am beginning to understand when you ask me questions like How can we mop up the juice? Speaking I am beginning to use longer sentences with words like because and and like I cried, I did, because I banged my foot I can tell you about something that happened yesterday, like remember when we went to the park and had a green apple and came home. I ask lots of questions and answer your questions too. I can talk about what we are doing now, and what might happen later or tomorrow. When I talk to you, sometimes I talk like a grown up to make myself clear, like I really, really need the toilet now. We anticipate the children to be able to join in with familiar stories giving some information. We also expect them to show an understanding of instructions and simple questions. Finally, they should be able to communicate using complex sentences, talk in a clear and concise way and talk about events in more detail.
General Reminders Collections If you arrive to collect your children before 4.45pm, please may we ask that you to collect from the Community Room at the rear of the school. Follow the path past the swimming pool towards Nursery. You will be asked to sign your child out of Cosmic Club in the usual manner. We have our evening meal in the school hall at 4.45pm, so politely ask that any children who are picked up after 4.45pm are collected from the main Childcare entrance. We are continuing to monitor late collections. Whilst we understand that on the odd occasion you may be held up due to circumstances out of your control, we do ask that you inform us of the delay. If, however, this becomes more frequent, we will begin implementing charges. Collections after 6.00pm are charged at 5.00 for every fifteen minutes. This is not an option to book later and should not be used in this way. Arrival May we request that parents contact us on the Childcare mobile if you require adhoc sessions in Cosmic breakfast club at short notice. The Cosmic Club opens at 7.30am, please be advised that you cannot leave your child before this time. Breakfast is served until 8.15am. We politely ask that your child arrives before 8.15am if you wish them to eat breakfast before we take the children into school at 8.40am. The childcare mobile phone number is Signing in On arrival and departure we ask that you sign your child into Childcare on the registers on the desk in the hall for breakfast club and on the desk within Childcare on departure, they are organised into Year Group and by room name for your convenience. It is extremely important that you remember to sign your child in and out of Streetsbrook Childcare. Meals A Hot Tea can also be added to the Cosmic Club session if your child attends until 5.00pm, at the cost of 1.90 for all children. You can book this on a daily/ weekly basis by completing the meal register which is available on the signing in desk or you may prefer to arrange this on a long term basis if you require your child to have a hot meal in every evening session. Mobile Phones Mobile phones are strictly prohibited within Streetsbrook Childcare. We politely ask parents not to use mobile phones within Streetsbrook Childcare. This is to ensure the safeguarding and protection of your child. Opening the Door May we remind you of the importance of not leaving the door open for other Parent or visitors. This is to ensure children are not able to run out of the door unattended. To ensure the safeguarding of all children and families we ask parents not to open the door to other parents or visitors to the setting. Staff are present to open the door and greet parents and verifying who is at the door. Absences/Fees Unfortunately due to the high volume of children that attend Streetsbrook Childcare we are unable to swap or re arrange sessions for other days. All absences are required to be paid in full. Please do inform us of any absences due to illness or otherwise on or the Childcare mobile Parent Comment Box We have a parent comment box which is situated on the main singing in and out desk within childcare for Parents to add any comments or views. Please be reminded that I am always available to speak to and happy to discuss anything at all.
