2 I. Photo Retouching a. Fix The Face: Sampling, Healing, & Cloning Step# Description Action 1 Open Photoshop & Open the following image: the-face.jpg a. Open Photoshop b. Go To Menu Bar >File > Open > Browse To WED_DGIM601_dom > images > and double-click the-face.jpg Shortcut Key (Win) (Mac) Save File c. Go To: File > d. Navigate to Your Class Folder e. Create New Folder retouching f. Save: YourInitials_fixtheface.psd 2 Unlock & Rename Background Layer You have just opened an image file in Photoshop. By default, Photoshop places the image on a layer called Background. The Background is currently locked (note the lock icon next to the layer name) which may prevent SOME operations. You will unlock the layer by following these next steps: a. Double-click Background layer b. Rename Layer: Original NOTE: the lock no longer appears near layer name. 3 Duplicate Original Image NOTE: There are 4 ways to Duplicate Layers: In all cases, ensure the Original layer is selected 1. MENU BAR a. Menu Bar > Layer > Duplicate Layer b. Rename Layer > As: > Retouched c. Click OK 2. LAYER OPTIONS BUTTON a. Go To Layers Panel b. Click Layer Options Button c. Rename Layer > As: > Retouched d. Click OK 3. RIGHT-CLICK MOUSE a. Go To Layers Panel b. Select Original layer and Right-Click c. Rename Layer > As: > Retouched d. Click OK 4. DRAG ORIGINAL LAYER TO NEW LAYER ICON a. Go To Layers Panel b. Select Original layer and Drag Down To c. Place cursor over Original copy d. Double-Click Original copy e. Type Retouched f. Hit Enter (Win) or Return (Mac) Revised
3 4 Fix wrinkles or small blemishes with Spot Healing Tool a. Select Spot Healing Brush b. In Tool Options Bar, Click Proximity Match Radial c. Mode: Normal d. Brush size: #10 Soft Edge e. Drag and/or click areas around crack/wrinkles f. Observe fixes as you go. NOTE: Increase Brush Size by hitting the ] key Decrease Brush Size by hitting the [ key J J NOTE: Zooming and Undoing Zoom in tight to fix specific areas Zoom out to view results To undo a mistake, Hold Ctrl + Hit Z (Simultaneously) To undo multiple mistakes: a. Hold [Alt + Ctrl] + Hit Z (Simultaneously) or b. Go To Menu Bar > Edit > Step Backward (Ctrl + ) (Ctrl - ) (Cmd + ) (Cmd - ) (Cmd+Z) (Cmd+Alt + Z) 5 Fix large blemished areas (i.e. chipped nose) with Clone Stamp Tool a. Select Clone Stamp Tool b. In Tool Options Bar, Click Proximity Match Radial c. Mode: Normal d. Brush size: #35 Soft Edge e. Opacity: 100% S S f. Hover over area you wish the chipped area to match and Hold Alt (Option - Mac) + Click with Mouse g. Brush area to be cloned h. You may use the Blur tool to soften the edges of corrected areas. NOTE: For future projects, if the area you wish to sample is on another layer), you may click the check box for Sample All Layers 6 Get Use to Switching Between Tools a. Adobe Photoshop CS6 or Other Programs > Adobe Photoshop CS6 (alternate: Menu Bar > File > Open > Choose Adobe Photoshop CS6 Shortcut Key (Win) (Mac) Use steps from previous exercise to retouch your image QUICK RETOUCHING TIPS: It s All A Blur: A simple Blur overlay layer, can reduce the appearance of facial flaws 1. Duplicate your original portrait layer 2. Rename the Original Copy Layer Blur 3. Right-Click the Blur layer and Convert to a Smart Object 4. Go To Menu Bar> Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur 5. Slide to or type 8.5 for Radius, Hit OK 6. Go To Blend Modes in the Layer Panel 7. Choose Overlay for Blend Mode (choose and view other blend modes) NOTE: If the Blur Layer is more or less blurry than you desire, go to the Blur layer, double-click the Gaussian Blur fx and edit the Radius. Create a New Layer g. Draw shapes of your choice with: 1. The Shape Tool 2. The Brush Tool h. Drag original image layer above the Shape Layer you just created (if necessary) i. Right-Click original image Layer and Select: Create Clipping Mask j. Click the image layer, choose the Move Tool (V), and move the image left and right to adjust the reveal) k.
